two adults and three kids trip to KL

by lgh

Hi all,

My friend is travelling with his family to KL. This is their first trip to KL and would appreciate any suggestion on places to visit to take their children to. Any suggestion on hotel that caters to family guests and whether it is possible to stay at one room (2 adults and 3 children (all below 12 yrs)) or is there a requirement of max guests staying in one room only up to 3 people or 4 people? Thanks before hand.

I suggest hotels in the Petaling Jeya area. KL hotels can be expensive and KL city centre is very congested.

Namely,

Eastin Hotel which is good because it is next the 1 and 2 Utama shopping malls. Its a first class business hotel.

Next also in this area with a suites to match for a family will be the Royale Bintang Damansara. The family suite will be more for you. Its next to the Curve also in the Damansara shopping district.

If you like to have a theme park right at your hotel doorstep, then the Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel will be it.

Shop around the hotel reservation portals for the best prices. See http://www.kl-hotels.com/ for places to go with your kids. I believe Bread Town will be pretty good too.

Travel Tips for Petaling Jaya

My First Attempt...

by coceng

Well, my first attempt at capturing sunset ! I was walking home from work around 7 pm...that's the time when the sun is setting down the horizon; EVERYDAY here in Malaysia...
I got to see the bright/dark lights as they were seeping down the horizon, thought I captured that !
I think it was a success ! He ! He !

The School...

by coceng

Well, this is the school ! Looking at the school kids these days, I wonder what the future would be like ! Scary !
One thing never change though...the school girls still smell bad as ever & the school boys are never sure of what is right & what is wrong !

No Tipping Required

You don't have to pay any tips in Petaling Jaya or anywhere else in Malaysia. Tips are usually included in the price .. you might notice this if you look at some receipts (e.g. those who make a note of this more prominently are the more modern/westernised restaurants such as fast-food outlets, etc.) & you will find at the bottom of the receipt - government tax x% & service charge x% .. you can always leave spare change if you went to a restaurant that's air-conditioned, but it is not essential.

Same goes for taxi drivers, porters in hotels, etc. - you don't have to tip. However, when exceptional service had been provided (e.g. when you know for sure that a taxi driver had not taken you for an 'extended' ride, you've been living in a 5-star hotel and the porter had been most helpful, etc., you may feel free to tip .. just realise that you don't HAVE to, as that's not the norm.

If you go to pubs/bar, or somewhere in a Hotel, the same rule applies to the 'air-conditioned' places .. you can always leave some spare change - people usually leave the small change in coins that were given when they paid in cash.

Same plants as above but at different place of course ! this one was taken inside the Centrepoint Mall...
They look quite intriguing yes ? All these tropical plants & flowers, they have their own species & 'botanical' is not my game unfortunately...

These flowers were taken near where I work, TESCO Hypermarket area.
Maybe purposely planted so that the hedges would be colourful but it's a nice sight anyway for my camera & also for your eyes, I hope...
