More about Seri Malaysia Bagan Lalang Sepang

The Unknown Sepang

by Bix10

"Pre Sepang"

I must say that almost all Malaysians didn't even know the existence of Sepang until the former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad decided to build an International Airport and a race circuit there. Myself would of course be included in the list of people who didn't know about Sepang.

At present, Sepang is definitely famous for its Sepang F1 Circuit. The International airport isn't exactly synonymous with the word Sepang but more with KLIA - Kuala Lumpur International Airport, which is located in Sepang. The 2 hotels at the airport are also called Pan Pacific KLIA and Concorde KLIA.

That's about all I know about Sepang. Below, you will information regarding Sepang which I source from Wiki.

"Wiki Says:"

"Sepang is a town and district located in the southern part of the state of Selangor in Malaysia. Formerly a sleepy town, Sepang has grown by leaps and bounds due to several recent developments. Sepang district is perhaps best known for hosting the Sepang International Circuit and as the site of Kuala Lumpur International Airport, which serves Kuala Lumpur."

"Bagan Lalang in Sepang district whereby another development will be taking place here to develop an eco-friendly tourism destination by Sepang Goldcoast serving the world tourists."

"The Sepang F1 International Circuit is the home of the Malaysian Grand Prix which is the Malaysian leg of the Formula One race."

"The district of Sepang is also famous for the township of Cyberjaya, which is also known as the Silicon Valley of Malaysia vis-a-vis its association with the Multimedia Super Corridor. Currently, over 250 multinational companies are located in Cyberjaya. The capital of Sepang district is Salak Tinggi, which took over from Sepang town."

Not in 2 days :( Suggest you go to Port Dickson (PD) for the nearest beaches - not the best in MY but the closest weekend beach destination for most KLites!

You didn't say where you disemabarkation point is - LCCT or KLIA? PD is south to both.

I've no idea how you can get there from either airport :( Perhaps others who are more familiar with budget travel can advise how to get there/where to stay?

Port Dickson is not the closest beach from KLIA/LCCT. The best way to go to Port Dickson from KLIA or LCCT is by taxi, will take you 45 minutes, and cost you RM95.00, almost the same as going to KL City itself. For a budget traveler, that amount could easily use for one night accommodation anywhere in Malaysia.

The closest beach with resort around should be Bagan Lalang. It is best know among local for the nearest and cheap seafood. It is also known for its Palm Tree seas Villa, smaller version of what you see in Dubai. To get there, the taxi ride from the airport should take around 35 minutes and cost around RM55 from the taxi counter at the airport.

My suggestion is take a bus from KLIA to Lumut/Setiawan/Teluk Intan, operated by Star Shuttle (Website: for RM45 one way or RM80 for return ticket. From there, you can go to Pangkor Island, just another boat trip from the bus station. the journey takes about 3.5 hours from the airport, but Pangkor Island has alot to offer for budget traveler, and one of the nicest island in Malaysia which can be visit all year round.

Good Luck

Darling, are you in the habit of contradicting me??

I said it is the 'weekend destination for most KLites', dear!

Never heard of Bagan Lalang! Oh? That muddy beach??

And you suggesting Lumut for someone who's got one night to spend on the beach??

Kuala Lumpor!

by IdaCamilla

I'm a 22 year old girl from Norway. I'm going to KL in February with my mum and dad and I've got some questions:

Are there any nice beaches where I can dive and snorkle nearby KL?

What's the weather like in February?

Re: Kuala Lumpor!

Near KL? Beaches are not so near. I suggest you fly to Langkawi from KL. You can dive and snorkel there. Avoid the East Coast as the monsoon (South China Sea) will still be around by then.

i agree on that one.
penang also has some nice beaches a a little outside of town and the place is very culturally interesting too.

About the weather, it's tropical and very warm. You can expect 30c-32c everyday. (and you really feel the heat there) Be prepared - don't let a suburn spoil your holiday, you can get one in under 15 minutes unprotected. Feel free to carry an umbrella (a lot do) in the city. Good protection from the sun or a downpour. Have a great holiday.

Hi Carina you can't really dive or snokle in Port Dickson & Pulau Indah. As mention earlier you need to get out of the city to enjoy snorkling. And at this moment East Malaysia and up North, Pulau Langkawi is ok for the season.
Well on 2nd thoughts KL has lotsa to offer. So perhaps you should hang around in the city.

oh i forgot too if you are arriving in mid Feb, just to infor that we are celebrating Chinese New Year. Something to look forward I guess.

KL is located in the inland of Peninsular Malaysia without any beaches bordering the territory (but there's man made beach in the old mining pool of Mines Beach Resort). Port Dickson, Morib and Bagan Lalang are the nearest beaches to KL - unfortunately they are not really suitable for snorkelling.

As suggested by other, heads off to island resorts like Langkawi - there's plenty of nice beaches over there.

Selamat Datang!
