Menggilan Hostel: Another Hostel at the Foot of Mount Kinabalu

Similar to Asrama Medang. Menggilan seems newer and it has a bigger bathroom. There is a shared kitchen as well.

Cost : RM 12 per pax

Please note that the Park Headquarters staff may assign you to either one of the hostels as both are priced the same and situated next to each other.

You are encouraged to book and pay for the accommodation before you arrive at the Park.

Great view of Mount Kinabalu.

There are many other types of accommodation under the care of the Sutera Sanctuary Lodges. Check them out from the website.

Medang Hostel: Hostel at the foot of the Mount Kinabalu

Usually trekkers who intend to summit Mount Kinabalu, or travellers who just want to enjoy the cool and nice environment will stay the the foot of the Mount Kinabalu, the Kota Kinabalu Park.

Medang Hostel is situated just beside the Menggilan Hostel. (Hostel in Malay is "Asrama".)

Asrama Medang is a 3-minute walk from the Park Entrance. I stayed in an 8-bed dormitory. There is a kitchen with utensils. There is no heater in the room. There is hot shower too.

Cost : RM 12 per pax

Great view of Mount Kinabalu from the balcony.

lodges in the national park: Mt. Kinabalu Lodges

we had a very damp chilly night here, the rooms were very basic and the shower a mere trickle.
we shared the accommodation with a variety of insect life, which arrived through the torn mesh covering the window
the walls were so thin we could here the people breathing in the next room, luckly wewere not a honeymoon couple !

Breakfast the next morning consisted of two hot dog sausages with cold scrambelled eggs

I have no idea of the costs as it was included in our tour, but there are much nicer Lodges nearby, the `Fairy Mountain Lodge` looked far far better than this one !

not suprisingly the lodge does not have any Michellin stars

Sutera Harbour Resort n Spa

I stayed at Promenade Hotel for a night and then moved to Sutera Harbour Resort and Spa for 2 nights. Both hotels are good.

Promenade located in front of Waterfront. Nice hotel and you can walk around and all the shopping walls are in walking distance.

Love the Sutera Harbour Resort and Spa, nice place, big hotel, friendly staffs and swimming pools. Need to use taxi or shuttle to town.

The Sutera Harbour Resort n Spa is 5 star hotel. They got bowling alley, cinema.. very good swimming pools and they have spa. They got 2 hotels that are under the same management and you can use the facilities too. Magellan Sutera Harbour and Golf and Country Club.

For golfers this is the best place. they got 27 hole golf course.. and open till 11.00pm.

Twin-Bed Cabins: Solid accomodation, Mount Kinabalu

There are many types of accomodation to choose from at the Mount Kinabalu Park. At the entrance of the park you can find an overview of the possibilities and where they are situated. We chose the Twin-Bed Cabins, which were simple but good. The shower was excellent, by the way!
Always check in at the reception of the park (Kinabalu Gold Resorts). Reservations might be needed in high season.

Dragon Inn: Sleeping above the water in Semporna

Near the harbor there are dozens of wooden huts standing on stilts over the water. When you look through the wooden boards on the floor of your room you see... water. The bathrooms are very basic and everything ends up in the water beneath you, but I really loved it!! A huge bed in a wooden cabin, warm water shower... all that you need, right? For me it was a very nice place to stay; I'll never forget.
You have also the possibility to sleep in a dorm, if you prefer...

Sepilok Resthouse: Closest to Sepilok

First of all: you can not sleep any closer to the entrance of the Sepilok Rehabilitation Center than this... Second: the atmosphere is wonderful and tranquile. There are not many rooms, but they are clean and of various types: single rooms with shared bathroom, but also spacious fan or air-con rooms. In the morning you can hear the birds outside your window. Lovely.
The owner is a wonderful man! We have learned so very much from him! Don't forget to ask about their tours to the Kinabatangan.

Just the whole feeling about the place is nice.
