Good diving trips

by jdfhale

Hi there,
I am keen to hear what people recommend for diving trips from KK.
What companies are good to go through?

Cheers,

Re: Good diving trips

by GrumpyDiver

We did a couple of dives with Borneo Divers off of KK (15 minute boat ride) from their operation on Mamutik Island in March 2008. It was singularly unimpressive - they weren't bad dives, just not a terribly memorable ones. If you want to get a few dives in, okay, but the sea life was okay but far from spectacular. Visibility was in the 7 to 8 m (20 - 30 ft) range and the water was cool (we needed light wetsuits).

many thanks for your help. What time of year were you there? I am there at the end of next month.

It's in my posting - "March 2008" - March 7, to be exact. Air temperature was 33C and water temperature 26C. Dives were in the 20 - 25 m range.

Travel Tips for Kota Kinabalu

Train, train, train

by meliaz

No matter what anyone says train before you attempt to climb up Mt KK. I know some people have done it without any training but it would definitely be much more enjoyable if you did it with training. At the least you wouldn't ache as much after the trip. And actually, it's likely even for people with training to not able to make it up due to altitude sickness so why risk that right?

Climbing in the cold!

by JamesWtc

A Good Backpack, 50L is adequate! Good shoes for hiking. Gym and tennis shoes are fine.

Bring Warm clothes. The weather drops to below 5 degree when you reach the top, depending on the weather.

Bring a rain coat in case of rain.

Water proof gloves and a hat to protect you from cold wind. Altitude sickness like vomit or headache could happen. Consult your doctor. Camera with spare batteries and film. You must take the photo on the top of sunrise! Buy a walking stick from the HQ. It helps a lot.

Small water bottles. 1L or less are fine. Mountain waters are available along the way up at each stop. The Golden Tip: Travel Light

Kiulu Rafting

by theDreamCatcher

class 1 n 2 rapids here. but the water in kiulu is clean and the surroundings are really relaxing. plus you get to see malay culture as pass through Pukak Village. plus the buffet is wonderful and kudos to our river guides especially that guy that gave us the hilarious safety briefing!!

COMPLEX...

by BADJUJU about COMPLEX...

Couldn't remember its name, called xxx complex. It's a shopping centre where you can find a money-changer on the fround floor and a internet cafe on the third(forth) floor. there are also some fast food outlets on the ground floor in case you couldn't get used to the local food there.
