kota kinabalu to jakarta

by chibelen

hello. are there available buses or any form of transportation from kota kinabalu going to jakarta? transportation by land or ferry would be most appreciated. thank you

Re: kota kinabalu to jakarta

You have to fly to get from KK (Borneo islad) to Jakarta (Java island) - no boats either.

Land/sea transportation from kota kinabalu going to jakarta is possible but complicated: first ferry to Labuan, then to Brunei, then bus or minibus to Miri, bus tu Kuching then to Pontianak, boat from there to Jakarta. Or bus tu Tawau, expressboat to Nunuakan, boat to Pantoloan, Pare Pare or Makassan/Ujung Padang, bus to Makassan/Ujung Padang, boat to Surabaya or Jakarta. Boats are not every day, mostly Pelni (pelni.co.id, website is only sometimes working, Jakarta would be Tanjug Priok on this site).

Hello

Dont waste your time or money, just fly.
The flight might even be cheaper.

Kota Kinabalu and Jakarta are separated by vast distance and the sea so going that way will take you forever not to mention the perils of non scheduled transportation.

Take a flight from KK to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore and fly directly to Jakarta. You can always try the low cost carriers like Air Asia. Visit: www.airasia.com

Re: kota kinabalu to jakarta

Air Asia flies directly from KK to Jakarta. It's a fairly short flight and much more convenient than trying to make it by land/sea. Unless you're not interested in convenience and are determined to go your own way. In that case good luck and let us know how it goes.

Travel Tips for Kota Kinabalu

Laid back atmosphere

by travelpug

In general, I think the people in Sabah are more gentle than those of the West Malaysia. The overall atmosphere is less hectic and laid back. Most important, coming from Kuala Lumpur, I felt that this city is much safer than anywhere in West Malaysia.

White river rafting in Sg, Padas

by yuet29

You can book the tour in KK, the company will send a van to pick you up from KK, and you will transfer to train in Beaufort. The train will bring you from Beaufort station to the starting point of the river rafting.

There are a few rapids along the Padas River. Some are graded up to level 4 or 5. The time to raft depends on the current and tide on that day.

For the pricing, check for the tips on tourist trap. For paying rm170, the excitement you get wasnt worth the price, but if you pay rm120 or less, it is okie.

Note that there are a few river for rafting in sabah- padas, kiulu and papar. Papar is the new spot but the rapids are not as great as in padas, similar to kiulu. You will be much disappointed is you raft in papar or kiulu, that is what i think.. since padas doesnt satisfied us as well...

However, it is a good try if you never go for rafting before..it could be amazing.. must try! Everyone will get a life jacket and helmet. For those wearing specs, the guides will help you to tie a rubber band on your spec to secure it.

No belongings are allowed with you besides specs and sandals. The guide will collect your slipper/ sandals by the time you board the boat. They keep the shoes inside a net hanging behind the boat.

A short briefing is given before the rafting teaching all how to swim inthe river and the command to raft - forward, backward, left, right. And then it starts the journey.

Poring is not so Boring for Kids!

by Wild_Orchid

The kids will enjoy this because it gives them a chance to splash around in cold water. It's about RM5 per entry into the park.

There are cold and hot sulfur pools where water is piped in from natural springs. Apparently, the sulfur is supposed to be good for your skin.

There are small baths (for 1-6 people), and also larger sized pools (where kids swim using rubber tubes which you can borrow from there-limited in numbers though).

If you don't fancy a dip, you can go for a short jungle trek (various treks that are well marked, not very difficult) or a canopy walk (RM4 per person).

Showers are adequate and quite clean but remember to bring your own towels!

Something unique: The water so hot, you could boil an egg in it ! (but cooking eggs here is not allowed, heh heh)

Downside: Can be crowded with locals & tourists during weekends & public holidays. Alas, some adults may find that Poring can be a bit Boring :-)

Upside: You could also pay (RM30/ hour) to have your own private hot springs/jacuzzi facilities in a "chalet". Limited numbers available.

No, the cool dude in the pics is not my husband...he's a work colleague

Shopping Mall 2

by yuet29 about KK Plaza

KK Plaza is located near the sinsuran complex.

If you have not brought enough warm clothes for your Mt. Kinabalu trip, you can do your last minute shopping here.

Some of the shops in KK Plaza sell real cheap warm clothes.. looks like rejected items but still you can get your size. For rm20 or less you can get a sweater here. Fix price and pay in RM.
