D’ Borneo Hotel is one of the best budget hotels I have stayed in in all my trips.
For only 129RM (got this rate by booking through their website), you can have the comfort of a nice, clean, and spacious bedroom. The bathroom has all the basics you need, including a hot & cold shower and towels and toiletries for two, among others. Their complimentary shampoo and soap even smells good.
Local coffee, Kopi-O, and Sabah Tea bags are also provided for free. However, do not expect a good breakfast. Better head off to the restaurants outside, which are plenty and a stone’s throw away, anyway.
And that is another great thing about this hotel. It is near to any mall and all the major commercial spots in the city.
This hotel is highly recommended for travellers who want inexpensive accommodation and still have quality service and clean facilities.
Unique Quality: I can say that the people running D’ Borneo are in the right business. They know how to answer even the very particular needs of their guests.
When we just arrived from our flight from the Philippines and did not have any Ringgit in our wallets yet, the Front Desk was kind enough to pay for the taxi fare first (since D’ Borneo does not offer foreign exchange) and just let us pay when we had our money changed to the local currency.
Also, they took time to show us on the map where are the restaurants and stores that we should go to.
Directions: Beside the Sabah Tourism Info Center / Kadaiku souvenir shop
Initially, I was put off by the price of RM 135 that they offered when i walk-in upon arrival. The lobby looks clean and the staff friendly. Yet I'm not about to pay RM 135 for a budget hotel...
A few days later, I met a Swedish couple staying there and I went to their room to use the bathroom. It was BEAUTIFUL!! Complete with coffee/tea making facility, mineral water and mini bathroom amenities. No mini fridge but TV comes with satelite channels. Toilet squeaky clean with shower stall. Clean sheets, new comforters and the air-con unit is quite. And they are only paying RM 110 cause they are staying for quite a few days.
I went downstairs, got myself a RM 110 room and shifted in the next morning. Guess what, morning newspaper provided too.
Unique Quality: I was told the place was opened in December 2005, which explains its all new rooms.
WiFi available at RM 10 per day.
No pool, not so great views but huge windows.
Directions: Centre of town. Two doors away from the tourism office and next to the Post Office Building.
