KK-Brunei

by kshong

Hi, does anyone know where is the daily KK-Brunei coach service located in Kota Kinabalu? Can I take a shuttle service on Tuesday from airport (BKI)to the coach terminal? What is the fare for this shuttle service?

What is the coach departure schedule to Brunei look like? Does the journey ends in the city centre of Brunei? How long is the journey in terms of hours and distance?

Thanks.

I am not sure about bus service from KK to Brunei. But the popular way to get to Brunei from KK:

1. Take a flight from Kota Kinabalu to Bandar Seri Begawan.

2. Take a boat trip. First, from Kota Kinabalu Jesselton Jetty to Labuan Island. continue with From Labuan Island to Brunei.

there are now daily coaches going both ways, timings depends on providers, and journey takes about 7 hrs and thru 8 CIQ posts! cost about BND45 one way.

another alternative is to take bus from KK to Menumbok, then get on ferry to Serasa, then bus to BSB. This only require 1 CIQ, Menumbok ferry leaves 3.30pm, check-in 1hr before.

total distance KK-BSB is about 350kms.

Travel Tips for Kota Kinabalu

Ice cream sticks

by tangymp

Take time to try these yummy ice cream sticks before you depart the international airport of KK. There are prepacked boxes of 12 or 24 sticks for you to bring home. The ice cream sticks can be kept frozen for up to 5 hours. I found that they were still diamond hard after travelling from KK to my home in Hong Kong.

Stuff to pack for Mt. Kinabalu

by Swwaattcchh

A The climb is quite rough so make sure you have a good pair of trekking shoes. Don't have to go buy the special ones, but normal sport shoes with good sole grips would do.

The temperature can go down to 0 degrees on the peak, so make sure you are warm enough. Bring gloves to protect your fingers.
Also bring a raincoat. You might encounter rain while trekking up. - A roll of toilet paper. It runs out really fast in the hostel.
- Headlight for those who plan to climb up to the peak. If you have a headlight, all the better.
- High energy bars for food
- Ziplock bags to pack in all your stuff, so you bring as small a backpack as you can.
- Insect repellent is a must
- whistle, in case you get lost
- Thermal water bottle if you have. The water can get cold up there
- diarhea pills, altitude sickness pills (if you need), headache pills, anti vomit pills and plasters. Remeber to keep your camera warm if your camera is not weatherproof or cannot withstand low temperatures.

Probiscious Monkeys and Fireflies at Klias River

by muratkorman

Klias River is in Beaufort region which is 110 km south of KK city. Depending on the traffic conditions, it may take 2 to 3 hours to reach there by car. Although the journey is tiring, you will have a very nice experience once you reach there. There are organized river cruises which give you the chance to watch the funny looking Probiscious Monkeys in their own environment. The small boats get closer in the river bank to provide you some nice photo shots. Watching the sunset on Klias River is fascinating. After that you are taken back to your departure point for a dinner. After dinner is the second event : Fireflies. The trees which you watched the monkeys jump and play before dinner transforms into Christmas trees thanks to the fireflies in the region. This was such a nice scene for me as I only saw a few fireflies when I was just a small kid. You can find tours organized to Klias River easily in KK city. The journey starts afternoon around 1:30 pm and you return back to KK city around 9:30 pm. For me and my wife, it cost us 340 RM including transportation, meal and the boat tours. It is not cheap but it is definitely an unforgettable experience.

Filipino Market

by yuet29

Local call this market "Pasar Pilipin".

This is a great place to grab some symbolic souvenirs such as Mt. Kinabalu t-shirt, key-chains, magnecs, local crafts such as batik, rattan items etc.

The opening hour is from morning 7:30 to night 7:00 pm depends on the volume of the crowd. The price can be bargained. But always remember, no point to be too harsh.

FRUITS?VEGETABLES?FLOWERS?PLANTS ANYONE?

by belle_kch about KUNDASANG

Located about 6 km from Mount Kinabalu Park (where the Kundasang War Memorial is). Fruits, flowers, vegetables and plants.. Getting There
Kundasang is located 90km, about 2 hrs driving from Kota Kinabalu and only 10 minutes driving from Kinabalu Park. Take a bus from the Jalan Padang Bus Terminal to Kundasang or Ranau for approximately RM17.00 per person. A taxi from the Ranau Taxi Stand (located beside the Merdeka Field) or from your hotel should cost around RM160.00 to RM300.00 per taxi. KK taximen don't use meters, so need to bargain the price before u get on the taxi.
