Hi Vts,
I am visiting KK this coming 24 March to 28th March.
Our flight from KUL to BKI will be arriving at the evening and leaving KK on 28th march b4 lunch. I am travelling with me mum (65yrs old) and my niece (2 years) with my sisters and fren (30s).
Below is our proposed itinerary:-
Day 1 Arrival in BKI - Transfer to Ranau Kundasang Hot Spring Resort
Day 2 One day trip at HotSpring resort and transfer to KK in the evening.
Day 3 Island Getaway
Day 4 City Tour
Day 5 relax and transfer to Airport
Please kindly comment of my iti is ok? I am bit worried with the island trip an doubt if it is suitable for eldery or children.
Any recommendation of hotel with good location and suitable for family?
Please kindly recommend me tour guide contact which can help meto arrange my trip
Many thanks ya
Regards
The itinerary looks good, and everything seems okay, even if you are traveling with 65 years old mom and 2 years kid. but it's also depends on your mom if she likes hot sun in a beach. And when its rain, the boat ride is quite bumpy and there is nothing to cover you or her from the rain and some wave.
IF she didn't mind that, my suggestion is to go to Manukan Island for the island trip, because it is the one with best facility compare to others, except the high-end Gayana Resort at Gaya island.
Choose a hotel that is really located at KK city, not outside. For a family, I suggest the service apartment instead of Hotel. Marina Court is located very close to shopping complex, handicraft market (Pasar Philipine), etc.
The iti is okay-normal iti for most tourist.Island trip should be ok for everyone, dont worry, plenty of shades if the mum cant stand the sun, manukan island is okay for its facilities.the best choice of hotel is marina court, with 2-3 bedrooms and kitchen facilitis, where u can cook your own favourite meal after buying seafood from the nearby philipino market, vegetables and fruits as well.yeah, marina court is the best, with a living room and dining room, the price is equal to a normal room in meridien hotel nearby.so better the marina court.just go to their website, search under googles.there are plenty of tour agency around kk,some nearby to marina court.best thing to do is to sort them out thru internet and confirm it when u are in kk,as it is wise to see face to face with the tour operator.they can take you even if it is a tour for tomorrow, dont worry.there is nothing like fully booked for day tour activities, always available.except for the mountain climbing and sipadan island trip.everything else can be confirmed and pay last minute.from marina court gate, exit, turn right and walk straight until you find hyatt regency, walk straight and you will be in wisma merdeka.next to wisma merdeka is a building where there are a lot of travel agency doing local tour activities.otherwise, centre point shopping complex next to marina, ground floor, there is a tour counter there.they can take u to tour normally one day advance booking.gud luck.

I heard from my moutain guide and the local staff from my hotel that Mt. Kinabalu is a mountain with great tradition.
It is believed that while climbing up this mountain, do so with respect and silence.
Don't climb up the moutain noisely. It is not auspicious.
As amatuer trekkers, we went up the moutain silently complained how tough the journey was. Of the 4 of us who went up, 3 of us came down with gastric flu and vomitted while coming down.
Not sure how true that belief was, but just for your info.
mount kinabalu is the highest mount in south east asia. Why its so special?u can celebrate valentine's day at the peak.and dont 4get to take as many pic as possible else u'll regret..i did!!i regret i didnt snap a photo me with a pitcher plant :(
well, mayb during going up u wont feel anything, but wait till u're going down, feel d muscle strains..hahaha!
there might be thick fog,so stick together with ur group.and local believes that there's penunggu or "spirit" at d mount. and d kadazan dusun believe that d mount is d place where their dead anchestor lives.thats y it's called akinabalu, revered place of d dead.so dont get overexcited, u might get lost.my friend(who is a local) said that, there's alot of people die here because they make d spirit mad.so careful of d words going out from ur mouth.
take a bus from kota kinabalu to kundasang MYR15/per person
park fee - MYR3
permit fee - MYR30
insurans - MYR7
cert-MYR10 (if u reach low's peak u'll get colored cert, if u stop halfway, u'll get black n white cert)
timpohon gate fee -MYR5
u need to pay guide fee,if ur alone, join other group.its cheaper..
u need to stay a day at d national park - hostel MYR 12. kitchen, share bathroom, fireplace.
u need to stay a day at laban rata b4 climb to d peak at 2am. - hostel MYR20(if im not mistaken)
u need to do advance boooking b4 u climb.i did d booking 4months earlier n its nearly full. best time to go climbing is february - jun.
p/s: d price is mycard(malaysian identity card) price.. must bring:
headlight, leather gloves, energy bar, haversack, windbreaker, warm clothings, extra battery(in case), food n drink (d food at laban rata is expensive), bring water when u climb from laban rata to the peak, though there's a water tank there,if ur unlucky, its empty.i went up there with empty bottle,n i ended up begging 4 some1's water coz d tank is empty!!but from timpohon gate to laban rata, every resthut has a water tank.oh yea, dont 4get 2bring raincoat.
Take minibus (11-seater) heading to Ranau from the central bus station opposite the cinema and library . Fare cost us MR$16 per pax. 3 hour bus ride. Bus will pass base of Kinabalu National park. What's there to see in Kundasang? nothing really much. just a small town with a row of shops selling local produce right where your bus stops. a lot of development going on there. maybe visit Kundasang War Memorial.....but i enjoyed the scenic ride so if the journey is more important to you then the destination and you have time to spare, go for the ride!oh yes, on a clear day, you can see Mt Kinabalu towering above you!
There are lots of stalls selling Dried Prawns, but look for those selling the large ones. Dried Prawns and Anchovies 1kg of Dried Prawn not more than RM37 for large size and 1 kg of Anchovies not more than RM12 for cleaned up ones.
