Spitting
Just be aware of this. It is commonplace for people to spit freely in the streets. Many buildings and some areas actually have no spitting signs up.
It can be a bit of a suprise if you are not aware of this.

Anyone know how much it roughly costs for a taxi from the city of KK to Nexus Karambunai hotel?
And also, anyone know if there are any good rates for either Promenade Hotel or Imperial International Hotel? My 1st choice would be Imperial International Hotel but it doesn't seem to be pretty cheap. Read somewhere there was this promotional rates for only about RM130 a month ago, but can't seem to find it now. :(
Transportation expect around RM30-40 as they normally charge RM60 to Tuaran/Rasa Ria.
I think Promenade is more expensive, near RM200 nowadays and it's always fully book. I'm not sure if the Imperial promotion is over but you can always check with them.this place is better as easier access to shopping malls.
Hello, im planning my first trip to KK for 3D/2n.
Would appreciate if anyone could provide some recommendations.
1) Accommodation - for 2 persons, need clean rooms & easy accessible to waterfront & centerpoint. On my list have Promenade, Tang Dynasty, Cititel Express & Imperial International Hotel. Which would be highly recommended?
2) Seafood - any good recommendations?
3) Pub - looking for one with nice ambience for relaxation. heard about B.E.D , is it good? or any good recommendations :)

My last visited, I stayed at Imperial Boutec Hotel same Management with Imperial International Hotel. Location is good for us surrounding by the shopping area and just cross the road you could find the waterfront, wet and Filipino market where selling the BBQ chicken wing. Please visit my pages in Kinabalu.
About Spa I saw alot next to the hotel which still in that mall area.
Seafood easily find at the waterfront" View seafood restaurant " and also you can find Kampung air food vendors .. cross the road infront of the centre point just go straight you can see a lot of food vendors selling seafood and specific malay food with a reasonable price.
Hi, I will be travelled to KK soon, would be appreciate if someone can recommend a good driver who can bring us tour around.. and roughly how much will it costs for chartered a driver for a day. Thanks.
ask to a taxi once there for the days you need, you'll see how good is the driver before you ask and at end it could be also cheaper.
Extra rent a car and driver for 140 a day for a small car toyota and they were very good used them 3 days and had 3 drivers all were good
would like to give you idea about KK town see my pages if you would like to get any idea.
I just back from holiday in KK, I am also need to know all info before I go there like what you done but finally I do good job and all my family enjoyed much the holiday.
KK is a small city and to explore the city itself is more convenience by walking.last time I stayed in Imperial Hotel, Wawasan square just cross the road is waterfront to enjoy the morning time and beautiful sunset also the wet market and sea food vendors next to the waterfront. morning time is a good time to explore the city by walking along the Tun Fuad street to Gaya street ( having breakfast ) and jesselton point ( for asking tour to the island).
if you would like to go for 1 Borneo just wait at the front of Wawasan square to have a free suttle bus to 1 Borneo. to go around taxi inside the city is RM 10 and go to Tanjung Aru beach is RM 15.
the problem is if we would like to go outside of the city like Mt Kinabalu we need to hire car ,I got info from hotel rental car is quite expensive for me about RM 300-400 with driver. then we used the city tour cost RM175 for one person for Kinabalu Garden,Hot spring including lunch at the Chinese restaurant.
for me the Hot Spring with the canopy walk is so so not so exciting but the Mountain garden with its orchird really great.
Hope this info can help.
Hi Kenstan,
thanks for your info, may I know do u have the contact no. which I can contact them?
I don't have the phone # but they are in the tune hotel and at 2 other locations you can google Extra rent a car in KK and they have a web site with prices and cars available.
Tune hotel located at 1 Borneo can reach that place by using free suttle bus from front side of Wawasan Square. For tour info you can go to Imperial International Hotel located at Wawasan Square just go to the tour desk and the lady will answer all about tour and rental car.
Besides, in the airport also you can find a lot of information.
go for island cheaper if you go to jesselton point for buying tickets or bargain for the tour to the islands
hi, if you need a good driver to go around kk and surounding area do contact by this email.. labu2020@yahoo.co.uk.. from there you can discuss about the cost,, thanks..

Situated along the shores of the South China Sea and within sight of Manukan Island, the golf course is part of the Sutera Harbour Resort... which comprises the 5* Pacific Sutera Hotel, resort-style Megallan Sutera Hotel, two Mandara Spas and a marina...
The 27-holes course designed by Australian Graham Marsh comprise the Lakes Course, Heritage Course and the Garden Course... Each course display particular characteristics with regards to challenges, hazards and landscaping... The Lakes play to 3,140m from the black tee, the Heritage is 3,176m and the Garden 3,095m...
The Lakes nine takes it name from the many water hazards and man-made lakes on the course... Crafted with a view of the city of Kota Kinabalu across the water, the Heritage nine serves as a reminder that not only Sutera Harbour a secluded vacation destination, but it is also a few minutes drive from the city... The Garden course is the prettiest of the three, boasting tall and numerous species of old trees...
The course is comparatively easy and flat.. hence it is a rather easy course to play... The clubhouse is a huge retreat with a striking views of both the city skyline and the course... Along with the golfer's terrace, there is a sauna and jacuzzi to wind down with, a golf shop that is well-stock and a fitness centre... There is also a 2-tier aquatic driving range as well as a practice green and bunker...
After shopping at the Filipino market, I stumbled upon a market selling all kinds of dried seafood and delicacies along the KK Waterfront.
What to Check out:
Sea-cucumber of various types (including the A Grade Tiger Variety, which are delicious when cooked with pork & black vinegar, (a friend's mum confirmed that this is the best quality), dried abalone, dried shrimps, ikan bilis and many varieties of dried fish and dried cuttlefish, including some dried seafood that I've never ever seen before!
Good news: The prices are much cheaper than at Kuala Lumpur, and the quality is almost similar.
Downside: You'll smell the stuff a mile away...advised to check it in, and not carry it on board the plane.
Tips for Mums and Dads who Love to Cook: Because they're dry, they're light so you should buy some of these delicacies for yourself, or for your mother-in-law. She & your kids will love you for it !
I bought some small dried abalone at RM90 per kilo.
My recipe: soak 6 pieces of abalone overnight, then boil for 4-5 hours (low heat or crockpot) with 1 whole chicken, 6-7 bowls of water, a few fresh ginger slices, 2-3 chinese mushrooms and whole black pepper - oh, it was delicious and hearty ! makes 4-5 bowls of soup)
Final Tip: Remember to bargain, because the prices are negotiable (but remember also that everyone has to make a living, so don't be too stingy!)
KK isn't the best spot in Malaysia to do so, but enough questions pop up on the forum about it-generally, keep in mind that the industry is very competitive and shopkeepers who try to fleece you will not make a sale because you'll be shopping around (I hope you are!!)-still a white face will probably attract a premium even after shopping around.
There's no 1 spot to go around, but basically look at the big 3 shopping malls (Kompleks Karamunsing, Centre Point and Wisma Merdeka) and by and large, you can bargain. International warranties can be excluded to reduce the price so find out about that. Mobile phones are competitive enough but most shops sell both new and used ones so find out beforehand. Also, some new phones are cheaper than identical ones because of limited international warranties-again, ask first.
Same with computing goods, but as I said at the start, it's preferable to do your electronic shopping elsewhere-Kuala Lumpur or Singapore are much better. cheaper than in the West, though I find digital cameras to be no cheaper than in Australia. I do recommend doing your shopping in KL or Singapore instead.
There's not that much to do at night when you're staying at the Perkasa Hotel, near Mount Kinabalu Park. However, some night-time serenades at the hotel's restaurant (it has a stage for group functions) or its in-house karaoke pub would be just the thing for some after-dinner fun. Goes well with a bunch of crazy colleagues who love to sing as much as they love their beer!
Parteee!!
The beer was cheap - only RM3.00 per can. We bought it in KK town and talked the hotel into charging us only a minimal amount of corkage. Card games was another popular option. Casual. Just bring your best singing voice and dancing shoes.
