Beautiful Island Getaway

I stayed here prior to my hike up Mt KK. I have the say the stay was very relaxing. The hotel and it's view was as good as the pictures on the website. Also the island was beautiful with white sandy beaches and sunny days.
The only inconvenience was the limited electricity supply. Power is limited in the day time, so you cannot switch on the water heaters and the air conditioning in the afternoon. I forgot the hours - something like from 9am - 7pm maybe? You can always call the hotel to confirm. If you do accidentally switch on the air conditioning or heaters, you will literally trip the whole resort! So be careful. That aside, there's not much choice in food on the island, only the buffet / restaurant resort and a small little convenience store who does sell some food in the mornings and for lunches. Dinners we usually ate at the restaurant.
All in all I think I can live with this inconvenience, as the fans still work. Besides why would I be cooped up inside on a beautiful sunny day eh?

Unique Quality: Great view, lovely beaches and good snorkelling off the beach and around nearby islands too.

Manukan Island Resort

The resort has 18 single and double-storey lodges on the hillside or by the sea...The wooden chalets match the natural surrounding perfectly... Though they look like back-to-nature lodgings, the rooms are air-conditioned and come with television and other amendities... Room rates range from RM600 to RM700, including a honeymoon suite going for RM800...

Unique Quality: There is a restaurant hwre oe can dine indoors, at the terrace or under shady trees on the beach... Lunch and dinner buffet are available and includes barbecued prawns, crabs and cuttle fish...

Accommodation in Manukan Island

by bkoon about Manukan Island Resort

All chalets overlook the South China Sea and a spectacular sunset is almost a daily sight. Stay overnight in the beautifully structured chalets, and lose yourself in the romance of a tropical island paradise. The island is also ideal for small to medium sized meeting groups.

However, when I was there, a major renovation was going on and the pool was closed. There were very few travellers as many were day-trippers. The chalet-type accommodation is suitable for families and groups.

We stayed in the Hilltop Lodge which overlooks the sea at RM230 per night for the chalet with 2 rooms.

A GREAT HOTEL AT A GREAT PRICE

by enofile about Kinabalu Daya Hotel

The people at this modest hotel could not be kinder or more helpful. The room was certainly sufficient for my needs and very clean. The air-conditioning worked well and the shower cleaned off all the dirt and depression from Manukan Island. You cannot do better for the price and the service was fantastic!

Manukan Island

Beatiful beach.. clear water and lot of colourful fishes. A little bit upset about the toilet. They have a toilet behind the restaurant for showering. Hmmm... feel bad. As a Malaysian I feel shy. I think they need to improve the toilet and shower rooms. It was not maintained at all... Manukan's island is a tourist spot and yet.. Another thing I was upset to see the rubbish like plastics and bottles in the water. It supposed to be clean.

It was a great experience for me first timer to snorkle. I was scared at the first time swimming around the fishes and to see the corals and at times when I saw the big corals I feel like they want to suck me in..hahaha.. I wonder how those VTers who do the diving.

Manukan Island

Hello!

As part of my honeymoon we are thinking of spending a couple of nights on Manukan Island, just north of kota Kinabalu. Has anyone been here? Is it worth visiting and staying on?

Thanks

Emma

I'm not sure about a couple of nights but overnight, why not? It's a good spot to laze around and snorkel but that apart there isn't much to do. Have you checke dout Gayana Resort on Gaya Island about 5 minutes away from Manukan-might be better for honeymooners.
