Great place to stay

I'm glad i made the right decision of choosing to stay at the Sutera. The property was so huge one will find lots of places to linger about or things to do. The beach was not much though but there were lots of pools around. There was also a bar (seems to be well-known as it was packed Friday night) and several restaurants. Pacific Sutera is adjacent to another more family-oriented Sutera resort. Bus leaves every hour for town until late at night and have designated drop-off and pick-up points in town for a ride back. Choose a view of the bay for a romantic sunset to your room. Price is very reasonable esp on off peak season.

Enjoy!

Indulge in Nature

I have stayed here twice... the landscaping is fantastic, with great pools and views... cosy room and good food... nothing to complaint... but location wise, it is a bit far from the town... but they have feeder bus every 30 minutes.... favorite among tourists especially from Japanese and Europeans...

Great sunset view

It's a nice, decent hotel. Not far from town. It also has a shuttle service to go to town. Friendly hotel staff.

Unique Quality: It has a great view of the marina, which was located in between Pacific Sutera and Magellan Sutera.

Great value, great Hotel

I would highly recommend this hotel to other travellers - very cheap by Australian standards, approx $135 per night including taxes and full buffet breakfast. We booked the basic room and found it vey acceptable - the bed is firm but ok and the marble bathroom was lovely. Obviously not a new room, but well maintained and any small problem like a faulty tv connection was immediately fixed. The staff were excellent and very friendly, the 13 restaurants/bars in the resort complex are great for when you are too tired to go into town. The food is more expensive than in KK but still very reasonable by Australian standards. Banana Dacquiris by the pool for $6 each including poolside service is well worth it! The cleaning staff were very thorough but also happy to leave you alone if you put the do not disturb sign out - I had an upset stomach one day and they rang later to see if everything was ok, then sent a fruit platter next day. We loved evey minute of our stay, apart from having to leave!

Unique Quality: The 3 separate pool areas are fantastic, each one geared to either kids, adults or a combination. When you stay at the complex you get to use all the facilites so can pick which pool area suits you. We love the Pacific Sutera pool with swim up bar in the mornings and for lunch if we stayed in, then the Magellan pool was great or an evening swim and drink while watching the sunset. The Country Club pool was more for kids with a water slide, and also a separate lap pool, which seems like too much hard and serious swimming for a holiday!

Not downtown, but well situated

We were there on a package, so we had no idea what the hotel woudl be like. They have a range of room and wings and depending on the price you may have luxury, or a very basic room. Still, the hotel facilities are all the same, so i'd probably go for the basic romm next time I went back.
Pools were nice, staff were friendly and we were able to organise good tours through the hotel to go out to snorkel etc. No "resort style" beach around the actual hotel, but we were there for hiking etc more, so it wasn't a problem for us.

Customer Service Par Excellence

The Pacific Sutera is one of the two hotels inside the sprawling land of The Sutera Harbour. The other hotel is The Magellan Sutera and the marina and country club of the resort compound lies between the two hotels.

We arrived on a Saturday and the hotel lobby was quite bustling for the weekend. Nevertheless, we were accommodated well by the Front Desk. Not a minute of waiting time for checking in or any other hassle.

The room was what you expect of a five-star hotel -- clean, and spacious. I particularly liked the bathroom. There were shutters beside the bathtub that opens to the bedside - if you open them you can watch the TV or enjoy the view outside while soaking in the tub. It was pretty neat, I think.

As a guest of The Pacific Sutera, you can use all the other facilities in the whole Harbour. If it is swimming pool that you want, well, you will be in heaven here. Apart from the nice pool with bar at The Pacific, you can also enjoy the swimming facilities at The Magellan and you can also go to the olympic and the infinity pools of its Marina, Golf & Country Club.

The Pacific Sutera also has a small beach some steps down from the pool. Yes, it is small, but for me, if you are just there to lounge around, it is already fine and serves the purpose.

The complimentary breakfast buffet at Cafe Boleh is good enough. While they serve more Asian dishes than Western, they have quite a number of selections there. They also serve good Roti, which I really love, so it was ok with me.

All in all, the room in this hotel is of the standard of luxury hotels. I think they may have the advantage in the outdoor facilities compared to other hotels in the area, because they really do offer a lot - from golfing to water sports. But I highly recommend this hotel because of the service we received during our stay here. The relationship they built with us as customers is really well-managed.

When we come back to KK, we will definitely stay here again.

Unique Quality: The best part of staying at The Pacific Sutera was the service that we got.

When we asked about things to see and do during our brief stay, and we did this a number of times, the concierges were so patient and very knowledgable in answering all our questions and really went beyond our expectations.

For instance, when we asked for the number of a Catholic church in the city because we were going to call them to ask for the schedule of Sunday services, they already came up with schedules of all the nearby churches in KK. Another great experience here was when a concierge, knowing that we were going out for dinner, recommended a seafood restaurant before we got in the cab.

But, perhaps, what my husband and I appreciate the most now is their "after-sales service." It is our common practice to leave comments when we eat in a restaurant and stay in a hotel. Guess what? Two days after we checked out of The Pacific Sutera, we received a reply to our comments from its Resident Manager, Nico Hallier. What's more, it was not the usual automated response that you get from all the "smart and high-tech" establishments. His message answered our questions and recognized our comments. We have left comments and suggestions in many luxury hotels and restaurants before, and this is one of those rare times that we got a thorough reply. A really wonderful experience, indeed.

Watch out for thiefs at the Magellan Sutera!!!

Dec 2005-Jan 2006. Stayed at the Sutera Harbour, Magellan Sutera resort. We stayed in the club area, Magellan Club. We were there 4 weeks. The Magellan is understaffed wich becomes apparent because of the slow service.

The biggest issue was that there were thefts at our room. Somebody took my clothes such as t-shirts and small, disposable items such as cosmetics and paperbags. For example I bought brand clothes from Guess and the bags disapeared everytime, while ordinary plastic bags remained. We confronted the staff but they acted like they did not know what we talked about. This is Magellan Suteras MAJOR ISSUE.

The resort area is great though. Many pools and lots of restaurant offers. We like the personal service we got at the club and appreciated the snack hours during the evening.

The gym is so so. The machines and treadmills dates from the prehistoric time period. This is a drawdown also.

I wouldn´say that the Magellan is a 5-star establishment but if the resort gets rid of the thefts, sorted out the understaff issue and updated the gym it could be a 5-star est.

This year we have contacted the GM at the Magellan we have confronted the theft issue and we feel that we can go back to the Magellan. As we stay such a long time we like the size of the resort and the closeness to KK. STAR would be a better choice, but it is so small. There are not much there. That is why we want to stay at the Magellan and I suppose it is the ony reason!

The other hotels in KK are not an option, Nexus and Rasa Ria are to far away from the city as we like to stroll around and look in shops and go eat at ordinary malay restaurants. The city hotels are not interesting at all, in my opinion.

Unique Quality: Pool area.

Wach out for thefts!!!!

built on reclaimed land...

For the golfing enthusiast with a busy schedule....and all others with a bit of $$$ on the side. This hotel (actually 2 as the Pacific Sutera next to it is part of the same hotel really) is very near the airport and next to Centre Point. It has a golf course, and all the facilities you'd expect from a 5 star resort including a 6 lane bowling alley. It overlooks the islands and is a good place to stay if you can afford it. It's jetty also has boats to take you to the islands, though at a pricier rate compared to Jesselton Point.

Unique Quality: facilities, views, location

golf at sutera harbour

by suepat

we will be staying at the sutera harbour resort (next week!!) and would like to play golf on their golf course..I have read that we must have Handicap Cards in order to play there...can anyone confirm this? Thanks for your help.

I couldn't tell you that but it is a pretty 'exclusive' club so I wouldn't be surprised. But surely you can speak to the guys there and tip them nicely and get on the course. $$$ always talks in KK.
