During my visit to Kota Kinabalu I stayed at the Magellan sutra harbour resort. Upon arrival you are greeted by very lovely staffs that are willing to help you with every thing or any thing you may need. The rooms where five star you can even watch T.V while taking a bath. The beds are really king size and the balcony was awesome you can see the best sunsets while having a quite drink. Also the 24 hour room service was grate if you want a midnight snack. The pools where big and awesome with waterfalls that make the scenery complete. But the best thing of all about the Magellan was the breakfast buffet. This breakfast buffet had everything there from scrambled eggs to vegemite on toast if your an Aussie like me vegemite is the greatest any way there are also two types of croissants plan or almond, scrolls, cereals, three types of curries (lamb, chicken, fish), spicy prawn sambal, fresh noodle soups, fresh made in front off you omelet’s and roti bread, Chinese sweets and many types of fruits to much to mention. All in all I had a ball there I highly recommend it.

huge pool of sutera harbour facing the sea..

sutera harbour is a huge resort housing every possible holiday luxury.. golf, spa, marina, etc.. there are two hotels there.. one is a cheaper tourist business hotel, pacific wing.. the other is a more expensive spa resort, the magellan wing..
there's a huge pool facing the sea.. it even comes with a tiny patch of beach.. :)
The Majellan Sutera is one of the best hotels we have stayed in all of our travels over the years. The staff are what made it so great. They went out of their way to make our stay great. They were friendly , helpful, always doing that little bit extra & also a great source of information. The service in room , at front desk, concierge desk , kids club was faultless. We would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone who is going to KK. The hotel is positioned close to town , has a free shuttle on the hour for shopping & eating. It is also not too far from the airport for arrival or departures late at night.
The resort is actually 2 hotels, a marina, recreation centre, & golf course. The hotel has 5 pools loads of restaurant options . It has an internal shuttle which comes in handy if it starts to rain. A city shuttle runs hourly from 8am to 9pm at night with only 2 times missing for their meals. We must have saved a bit on taxis using the shuttle. It has a great kids club & the pool at the marina has 2 waterslides for kids. The Olympic pool is heated for the wimps. The buffet dinners at the hotel we terrific valu only ended up costing $18.25AUD per adult. The best thing of all was the outstanding view from our room #7513 the sunsets will stay with me forever.
Directions: The resort is built on a section of reclaimed land just to the south of the city & fishing harbour. It has its own golf club & marina & sporting centre.

How long does this take

One of the nicest features was the kids club. My daughter actually asked to go there instead of coming out with us to a local market.
The staff were very good & kept my daughter entertained with craft projects, painting, wide screen tv & hair braiding. All the charges at the kids club were very reasonable & they didn't mind her bringing in her own snacks & drink bottle.

I have stayed here twice... the landscaping is fantastic, with great pools and views... cosy room and good food... nothing to complaint... but location wise, it is a bit far from the town... but they have feeder bus every 30 minutes.... favorite among tourists especially from Japanese and Europeans...

I'm glad i made the right decision of choosing to stay at the Sutera. The property was so huge one will find lots of places to linger about or things to do. The beach was not much though but there were lots of pools around. There was also a bar (seems to be well-known as it was packed Friday night) and several restaurants. Pacific Sutera is adjacent to another more family-oriented Sutera resort. Bus leaves every hour for town until late at night and have designated drop-off and pick-up points in town for a ride back. Choose a view of the bay for a romantic sunset to your room. Price is very reasonable esp on off peak season.
Sutera Harbour Resort (The Pacific Sutera & The Magellan Sutera): Watch out for thiefs at the Magellan Sutera!!!

Dec 2005-Jan 2006. Stayed at the Sutera Harbour, Magellan Sutera resort. We stayed in the club area, Magellan Club. We were there 4 weeks. The Magellan is understaffed wich becomes apparent because of the slow service.
The biggest issue was that there were thefts at our room. Somebody took my clothes such as t-shirts and small, disposable items such as cosmetics and paperbags. For example I bought brand clothes from Guess and the bags disapeared everytime, while ordinary plastic bags remained. We confronted the staff but they acted like they did not know what we talked about. This is Magellan Suteras MAJOR ISSUE.
The resort area is great though. Many pools and lots of restaurant offers. We like the personal service we got at the club and appreciated the snack hours during the evening.
The gym is so so. The machines and treadmills dates from the prehistoric time period. This is a drawdown also.
I wouldn´say that the Magellan is a 5-star establishment but if the resort gets rid of the thefts, sorted out the understaff issue and updated the gym it could be a 5-star est.
This year we have contacted the GM at the Magellan we have confronted the theft issue and we feel that we can go back to the Magellan. As we stay such a long time we like the size of the resort and the closeness to KK. STAR would be a better choice, but it is so small. There are not much there. That is why we want to stay at the Magellan and I suppose it is the ony reason!
The other hotels in KK are not an option, Nexus and Rasa Ria are to far away from the city as we like to stroll around and look in shops and go eat at ordinary malay restaurants. The city hotels are not interesting at all, in my opinion.

We were there on a package, so we had no idea what the hotel woudl be like. They have a range of room and wings and depending on the price you may have luxury, or a very basic room. Still, the hotel facilities are all the same, so i'd probably go for the basic romm next time I went back. Pools were nice, staff were friendly and we were able to organise good tours through the hotel to go out to snorkel etc. No "resort style" beach around the actual hotel, but we were there for hiking etc more, so it wasn't a problem for us.
