Stay in a longhouse

Rack rate was RM250++ onwards p/room p/night. I managed to find online promotions for only RM110++ from Hilton's official website. I expected a more local free, but not realizing the place is managed by Hilton - it is actually rather night end resort. There is absolutely nothing there but the resort - sleep there, eat there.

Hilton partners with Borneo Adventure for boat rides along the river to visit 'real' Iban long houses for RM120 onwards for half day. Be prepared to pay RM30++ onwards for meals at the restaurant. Daily buffet dinner for RM58++ to RM70++.

The Batang Ai lake is quiet and peaceful. Water is clean but nobody swims in it. I went for a kayak in the evening. We kayak to the middle of the lake and watched the sun set. There are several easy jungle trails behind the resort.

Unique Quality: The resort's 11 indigenous timber longhouses consist of 100 individually air conditioned guest rooms. The longhouses are built in the traditional Iban way, being raised on stilts with a covered veranda that runs the entire length of the house. They command breathtaking views of the lake. These rooms are fully equipped with modern amenities - a welcome luxury in the heart of the rainforest.

Longhouse Style: Enjoy your stay in this traditional native Borneo design 31m²/334sq.ft room with garden views and sliding patio door windows. Some rooms have adjoining rooms available. Special touches include tea and coffee making facilities.

Beautiful exotic resort

Beautiful resort, probably the most luxurious in Malaysia! Rooms were large and decorated in a native Borneo design with huge windows. The grounds were lush with waterfalls, trails and a beautiful pool. Lounge and restaurant were accommodating, staff was friendly and attentive.

We took a memorable long boat ride to this exotic location. From here we got onto boats to Borneo, where yes leaches clung to my body & I saw the hugest spiders of my life & they did jump onto our bodies.

So Near........ But Yet SO Far...........

This hotel has the potential to be one of the best in Malaysia if not the Far East.

I mean there are not too many hotels in the world that are only accessible by boat and that have are gorgeous warm crystal clear waters surrounding them.

The rooms are built in traditional Longhouse style & are very comfortable. The facilities are excellent with nice reasonable size pool.

The hotel organizes local trips one being to traditional Iban village & another excellent trip is the Batang National Park. This involves a 2 hour trip on Longboat up and down rapids and deep into the rainforest by river, then a 2 hour trek through the forest to see the wildlife.

If it were not for staff letting the hotel & Hilton brand down in a big way this would one of the best.

The staff are recruited from local villages and trained at the hotel (not in its sister hotel in Kuching as they should be). As a consequence bad staff trains the new staff that just follow suit.

As you have no choice but to eat & drink in the hotel personally I think that they have raised the prices, it's not in comparison to the Hilton Kuching

One vital tip is, buy your own bottled water from the supermarket in Kuching or one the villages on four hour trip to Batang from Kuching. The hotel will charge you 13MYR for a 1.5 litre bottle, but you can pick up the same brand in a shop for 2MYR. The same also goes for soft drinks & beer.

Unique Quality: The best views you could ever wish for.

Amazing local and international food.

Gorgeous pool.

Excellent rooms & facilities.

An Island in the Jungle

by DocJules about Hilton Batang Ai Resort

Set on a small island in the middle of a reservoir deep in the Borneo rain forest this hotel must be completely unique.
It's designed in a longhouse style around a open verandered dining room and bar. Just watch the sunset over the lake with a cold beer and listen to the sounds of jungle coming awake at night.
The perfect end to a day's trek in the rain forest. The hotel has its own resident naturalist, Winston, who gives regular lectures and conducts nature walks.

Resort in the Jungles of Sarawak

by Rodan44 about Hilton Batang Ai Longhouse Resort

This resort is located on the shores of a man-made lake deep in the jungles of Sarawak, only a few kilometers from the Indonesian border. The resort bills itself as being "eco-friendly" and is designed to resemble a series of traditional Iban longhouses (Ibans being the indigenous tribe that inhabits the area). The "longhouse" rooms are fairly comfortable and have all the amenities that you would expect from a Hilton. The resort can organize many different outdoor activities for you, such as a visit to a real Iban longhouse village (which we did), jungle trekking, boating, fiishing, etc. The jungle that surrounds the resort is quite lush and boasts a myriad of exotic wildlife. Despite the great surroundings and numerous activities, there were a few disappointing aspects of this resort. First, the food was quite mediocre. Normally I expect hotel food to be bad, so I always try to eat elsewhere, but unfortunately you don't have that option at this remote jungle getaway. The breakfast buffet was especially bad, with all the hot food left out cold and the fruit selection limited to oranges, apples, and melon (hardly a good representation of the wonderful local tropical fruits).

Second, the staff are not very helpful, as they never once offered to help me with my heavy bags, despite the fact that I had to lug them up and down numerous steps to get from the boat jetty to the reception and then to my room.

This resort is probably perfect for families with young children or seniors, but it is a little tame for adventurous young (or young at heart) travellers.

Live in Style

by city_guy about Batang Ai Hilton Longhouse Resort

If you cant do the original "Longhouse" stay, then this is the place for you.
Tucked away from civilization, one needs to take a 20 minute boat ride from
the jetty which is also built by the Hilton.

Upon reaching, there will be a slight hike to the reception. Not to worry, the
landscaping is amazing on your way there. The rest is up to your imagination. There's a lovely Canopy Walk which is about a 30 minute hike. The canopy is around 80 metes long and the highest point is about 30 meters. Actually very interesting if you are into
nature and walks. Oh, along the way, you'll pass a single grave of a famous warrior 'Iban'.

Romantic Beach Hotel and Mulu

by Dameshel

We are planning to visit Kuching in February, staying at the Hilton Kuching and the Hilton Batang Ai Longhouse. Is it possible to visit the bat cave at Mulu from there or are we too far away?

Also we have been recommended to extend our stay with a few days at the Damai Beach Resort but thought someone might be able to recommend a romantic beach resort either somewhere else in Malaysia or anywhere on route home to the UK.

Re: Romantic Beach Hotel and Mulu

welcome to vt. mulu caves is accessible via miri, and you either fly or take a long drive across sarawak. to visit, check with royal righa hotel in myy.

Hi!

Mulu is about 45minutes flight frm Kuching via Miri, you hve to spend at least 1 nite there because of the distance of the journey (Kuching-Miri-Mulu) but its really worth going.

Damai Beach is Sarawak's premier beach resort which is close to Kuching. Other alternative, you can try Langkawi which has direct flight to London.

Cheers!
