An Island in the Jungle
by DocJules about Hilton Batang Ai Resort
Set on a small island in the middle of a reservoir deep in the Borneo rain forest this hotel must be completely unique.
It's designed in a longhouse style around a open verandered dining room and bar. Just watch the sunset over the lake with a cold beer and listen to the sounds of jungle coming awake at night.
The perfect end to a day's trek in the rain forest. The hotel has its own resident naturalist, Winston, who gives regular lectures and conducts nature walks.

Resort in the Jungles of Sarawak
by Rodan44 about Hilton Batang Ai Longhouse Resort
This resort is located on the shores of a man-made lake deep in the jungles of Sarawak, only a few kilometers from the Indonesian border. The resort bills itself as being "eco-friendly" and is designed to resemble a series of traditional Iban longhouses (Ibans being the indigenous tribe that inhabits the area). The "longhouse" rooms are fairly comfortable and have all the amenities that you would expect from a Hilton. The resort can organize many different outdoor activities for you, such as a visit to a real Iban longhouse village (which we did), jungle trekking, boating, fiishing, etc. The jungle that surrounds the resort is quite lush and boasts a myriad of exotic wildlife. Despite the great surroundings and numerous activities, there were a few disappointing aspects of this resort. First, the food was quite mediocre. Normally I expect hotel food to be bad, so I always try to eat elsewhere, but unfortunately you don't have that option at this remote jungle getaway. The breakfast buffet was especially bad, with all the hot food left out cold and the fruit selection limited to oranges, apples, and melon (hardly a good representation of the wonderful local tropical fruits).
Second, the staff are not very helpful, as they never once offered to help me with my heavy bags, despite the fact that I had to lug them up and down numerous steps to get from the boat jetty to the reception and then to my room.
This resort is probably perfect for families with young children or seniors, but it is a little tame for adventurous young (or young at heart) travellers.

If you cant do the original "Longhouse" stay, then this is the place for you.
Tucked away from civilization, one needs to take a 20 minute boat ride from
the jetty which is also built by the Hilton.
Upon reaching, there will be a slight hike to the reception. Not to worry, the
landscaping is amazing on your way there. The rest is up to your imagination. There's a lovely Canopy Walk which is about a 30 minute hike. The canopy is around 80 metes long and the highest point is about 30 meters. Actually very interesting if you are into
nature and walks. Oh, along the way, you'll pass a single grave of a famous warrior 'Iban'.

Romantic Beach Hotel and Mulu
by Dameshel
We are planning to visit Kuching in February, staying at the Hilton Kuching and the Hilton Batang Ai Longhouse. Is it possible to visit the bat cave at Mulu from there or are we too far away?
Also we have been recommended to extend our stay with a few days at the Damai Beach Resort but thought someone might be able to recommend a romantic beach resort either somewhere else in Malaysia or anywhere on route home to the UK.

Hi!
Mulu is about 45minutes flight frm Kuching via Miri, you hve to spend at least 1 nite there because of the distance of the journey (Kuching-Miri-Mulu) but its really worth going.
Damai Beach is Sarawak's premier beach resort which is close to Kuching. Other alternative, you can try Langkawi which has direct flight to London.
Cheers!
