Now known as Damai Puri Resort & Spa
A very pleasant stay here at Damai Puri. Our room was facing the swimming pool, at the same time facing the great South China Sea. This is a very relaxing place to be, surrounded by nature. The Santubong mountain is just next door, and the sound of the south China Sea waves is perfect.
It is also just 5 minutes walk away to the Serawak Culture Village, displaying the various ethnic groups houses. The cultural show which lasted about 30 minutes was entertaining.
Unique Quality: Perfect for honeymooners who have nothing else to do.
The message at the spa village is very relaxing too. Cost of spa is RM180 for 60 minutes. Plus taxes, total cost is RM207.
Opinion of Price: more expensive than average

Borneo beaches
Go for a Peninsula Chalet. The food here is pretty average but you cna get the free shuttle to the Damai Beach resort just 5 minutes away where the evening buffet is better. Also get the staff to arrange a car for you to take you to Lin Hock Ann Seafood restaurant in nearby Buntal. You choose your own fish and a few minutes later it appears on the plate in front of you. You also have a stunning view of Bako peninsula.
The pools at both the Lagoon and Beach resorts are nice and the sea is good for awimming although a little too murky for snorkelling. Staff were friendly and (mostly) helpful, although one man didn't appear to know that the hotel could organise trips to Bako directly from the hotel.
The Lagoon seems to be more popular with Malaysian families on weekend breaks whereas the Beach appears to be more geared towards Western (mainly German and Australian) tourists.
The chalet was clean, tidy and had great facilities.
There is plenty to do in the area: jungle walks, the Sarawak Cultural Village, Bako National Park, Kuching, as well as chilling by the pool and beach. You can easily spend a week here and not get bored.

Stay away
After a 12 hour flight and then finding out we had a 50min drive to hotel we where hot and tired. We arrived at the Holiday Inn Damai Dagoon and it looked lovely, until we walked into the foyer. The koi pond in the reception area was full of rubbish and slime, there where kids running around everywhere. We though Oh well its holiday time lets just book in and get our room so we can freshen up and get a cold drink.
We got into the lift and thought wow is this thing gonna work, on exiting the lift onto our floor we looked up and there were these huge holes in the ceiling where the rain was coming through, walking along to find out room everything looked old and dirty. We entered our room and I didn't know wether to laugh or cry,(I cried) The bed spread had blood on it, the room smelt mouldy. So I though have a nice shower and freshen up, the shower screen was hanging off and the bathroom was full of mould. Tried to get it fixed that was a joke. Turned on the airconditioning and water dripped out of it and the actuall airconditioner was full of mould. What a start to a Holiday. The food in the restaurant wether it was steak or eggs tasted like fish. Would I reccomend this hotel to anyone defiantly not. The scary part of this, is that it was recommend to us.
Unique Quality: There is none to talk about, the pool was filthy.
Did lnot stay here, took the free shuttle from Damai Beach just to check out this place so that I can do a VT reviews. Whew! things I do for VT!! ; )
I so prefer the beach at Damai Beach, here its only a lagoon and the place is so compact, all the rooms, chalets and restaurants all at one place. So kinda noisy and no privacy. Santubong is closer though.
The lacking in beach, they try to make it up in their pool, which is sand based and better looking that at Damai. Holiday Inn Damai Beach was opened first and was popular that they decide to open Damai Lagoon.
There is a gym here, of course guests from both hotel can use each others facilities. Kids Village is better looking here but maybe cos its newer? Still think it lacks the 4 star quality.
Damai Lagoon

When the Damai Holiday Inn proved to be a roaring success, the Damai Lagoon came into being. Room rates are slightly cheaper here. A distinctive feature of this place is the very open, very breezy and high ceiling lobby with a spectacular view of the South China Sea.
It has a smaller natural beach than the neighbouring Damai Holiday Inn, but I found the beach here to be more sandy and nicer . There is also a swimming pool with sand round it making the pool area like another beach within a beach.
Unfortunately, the beauty of the beach is let down by the premises have not been well maintained and are very run-down. The room service could be improved too.
