Very Nice Common Areas
The Waterfront Lodge has very nice common areas. Although it is mostly a regular hotel, there are also some dorm-type rooms and shared bathrooms. Coincidently when I arrived, the manager, Louis, told me that his sister lives in Albuquerque! It really is a small world. There is also a designated smoking area.

Perfect Location for Seeing Kuching
In Kuching I stayed at the Waterfront Lodge. It is not 4-star but the location is perfect: across the street from the Waterfront (fancy that); 1/2 block from the Courthouse Complex which contains the Visitors' Information Center; 2 blocks to Harmony Arch, Tua Pek Kong Temple, and the rest of Jalan Carpenter; and about 4 blocks up the hill to the Sarawak Museum Complex. Basically you can easily walk to many of the main Kuching attractions from the Waterfront Lodge. It is not fancy but the rooms are clean and the staff are friendly. I paid RM85 for an air conditioned single room with an ensuite bathroom and it included a light breakfast.
