Riverside Majestic: Nice Hotel - Formerly Crowne Plaza
Our hotel was located on the road alongside the Sarawak River. There was a building opposite it which partially blocked some of the river, however we had good views up and down the river from the 8th floor.
Formerly known as the Crowne Plaza Hotel I estimate the hotel to be 30 years plus. Our room was large with an excellent bed and linen, carpets were in good condition and the bathroom had been renovated . The television was old and we did not bother turning it on.
Unfortunately the room suffered from condensation during the night and the windows were covered with moisture each morning. The room smelt as though a flavoured candle had been burnt, but my wife told me it was due to the condensation.
Buffet breakfast was included and was very good, we also had an enjoyable lunch.
The foyer area was small with limited seating and we went to the pool area to rest and read the paper, however there was no shade, the cafe area was set up for lunch as a large conference was being held and I guess the management did not want swimmers within 2 metres of the diners.
We chose this hotel as from Tripadvisor reports we thought the rooms were in best condition.
We dined at the Hilton and it looked good, we also visited the Margarita Hotel (formerly Holiday Inn) which is located on the riverbank. Its reception and lounge areas were magnificent, however Tripadvisor did not give a good room report. I noticed renovations were in progress and if returning I would consider this hotel.
Tariff at Riverside Majestic was Au $108 per night including buffet breakfast for 2 persons.

Kuching Park: Comfort Zone
If you are looking for a very reasonable rate of hotel. It must be Kuching Park. Standard room you can get for as low as RM90 plus breakfast (promotional rate). The rooms are cosy and clean....just it is a bit distance from the city centre. Food is tasty here too.

Long House: Staying with 'Orang Asli"
It is really worth it for a 2D1N trip to Long House for RM300. This includes transportation (5 hours drive from Kuching and 45mins by Sampan), meals (lunch + dinner + breakfast + lunch), a night stay at Long House and entertainment (traditional dance by the Iban).
Some people may not like to stay in the Long House without proper bathroom and electricity. But for me this is a very special experience and the friendly Iban really made me feel at home.
The river that we took to reach the Long House by Sampan really took my breath away. Water is crystal clean and surrounded by greenery. Totally relaxing.

Mandarin Lodging House hotel is a quite cheap hotel with air-condition and tv. A double room costs 50 Ringgit for room (almost 12euro). The owners are chinese guys quite kind. It is quite dirty for an european tourist The bathromm is a lit bit dirty and very old and collapsing.

Gading NP: Gading NP
Book accomodation in advance if you plan to visit Gading NP. This is what I read from the book.
However when I reached there, noticed that most of the rooms are vacant. There is actually peak period in the park which is around May- August that the room may get fully booked. Otherwise should be okie. However, it is no harm to play safe.
The dormitory is quite okie with 4 people sharing one room, common bathrooms and kitchen with fridge is open for use. RM15 per person per night
There are canteen in the park selling food
The canteen is closed by 9:30pm
There are biscuits and instant noodles sold inside the canteen as well. Pack enough food if you prepare for a long trekking.

Carpenter Guesthouse: Newly renovated B&B
The room was extremely small, they raised the flooring with wooden planks to the size of a queen bed. Margin of wall between mattress was only about 2-3inches. Common bathroom/showers are new and clean (new tiles/new hot water shower units).
The little kitchenette is downstairs with free flow coffee/tea all day long.
The owner, Pamela, can sound a little aloof but I think she doesn't mean any harm. In fact was rather helpful with maps and directions after she warmed up to us.
You can book the rooms through www.travellerspoint.com
It's newly renovated and run by a family and I suspect also has many Christian guests. Although they boost free internet service, be warned that each guest is only allowed 15mins. they charge for usage thereafter.
Right opposite the guesthouse is an old 'kopitiam'. Try the 'kolo mi' there. It's second best to 'tua pui soh' down the road.

Lime Tree: Kuching hotel with fabulous views
The Lime Tree is quite new and in a very convenient location within short walking distance to the local shope and the waterfront, not need to hire transport here. the rooms are a good size and the bathroom is spacious and very nice. There was no fridge but that wasnt too bothersome. The staff are very friendly and provide and excellent service including a shuttle bus to our next accomodation in the jungle. There is a quaint gift shop inside the hotel with very reasonable prices, or a short walk down the road you will discover shops full of souvenirs of carved wooden cats and uniqued musical instruments to purchase. The open rooftop is great and we finsihed off every evening with a drink and took in the views
The rooftop is open and had a bar and restaurant the view are stunning, of the banks of the river lit up with beautiful lights, you can see most of the city from the rooftop.
We ate some dips and fries and a few drinks, the rice wine 'sake' is very nice.
