Something a little different

Kuching offers the usual Hilton and Holiday Inn, but for something a little bit different and less expensive try the Orang Ulu owned and operated Telan Usan Hotel. Convenient to the excellent See Good Food Centre.

Meet the locals

by kyoub about Telang Usan Hotel

Telang Usan Hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Kuching City. It is only minutes away from the business and financial centre, the Sarawak museum, historical buildings.

The Sarawak river is also nearby, with the traditional markets and small shops along its banks and the waterfront.

The nearby Reservoir park provides long walks for the traveller in quiet but luxuriant gardens.

The hotel is approximately 15 minutes car ride from the airport.

There were several tour groups here and it was a bit noise in the halls. Plus we were right next to the door which we heard until the wee hours.

Reasonable cheap and Fresh!

by Xinta about See Good

If you like seafood or any other food cooked in Chinese style, this is another place where you should come and try, especially those living in Telang Usan and also Supreme Hotel cause it's very nearby. The food is good, and it offers a pretty reasonable pricing too! 1) Seafood dishes;
2) Fried rice noodles (mee/mee hoon/kueh teow);
3) Fried rice dishes

Long Lama

by AlbuqRay

Almost everywhere we went on the up-country Borneo trip could be considered off the beaten path; however, for northern Sarawak, Long Lama is a big city. It is on the Baram River, a major transportation artery. There is a ferry to cross the river (see my Trans-Borneo highway travelogue below) and an express boat stop (see a transportation tip here). We took a lunch break in Long Lama on our way to Long Atip. We ate at the restaurant to the left of the Telang Usan Hotel (JourneyMalaysia says this hotel is small but adequate). BTW, there is a tall microwave tower near Long Lama; your cell phone might work there. See also the Long Lama Waterfront videoclip. There is a funny online article about driving from Miri to Long Lama and back. Not only is it fun to read, but it also has some good information in it.

Will be in Kuching early July.

A friend suggested Penn View Hotel. Does anyone know where this hotel is and what is the rate?

Thank you.

Hi,

Try to look at these websites for information: http://www.wahtung.com.my/hotel_rates/sarawak/sarawak_hotels.htm
http://www.borneotravel.com/guide/accomodations2.html

If you're looking for a reasonable hotel in the city center, I would recommend Harbour View Hotel. It's reasonably priced and location is good.

Regards,
Hong

Depends on what you wanna do in Kuching. If you want to walk around town then I would agree with Harbour View which caters fro some rates like RM120++ and so so. Cheaper than that would be RM80++ u can try Borneo Hotel. Telang Usan would give you some kind of local feel with its decorations (RM90) also :)
