day trip or overnight from Miri to Niah Park?

by buttercup17

Is it possible to get to the Niah National Park, visit the caves and park in one day? or should we make an overnight trip? Will be staying in Miri arriving 7 Feb dep 10 Feb 2011. Suggestions / recommendations welcome.
thank you

We stayed at Miri, and drove to Niah n/pk. I'm afraid, we went too late in the afternoon to do the walks and to return to Miri in daylight.
So, leave in the morning, and you should be ok to have a good look.
This website may give you an idea on length of trails.

Very possible. I remember doing this when i was a child (lived in Miri) but if you want to watch the bats leaving the cave's mouth in the evening, you either have to stay overnight or have your own transportation.

do wear proper shoes. I can never forget seeing my elderly grandmother slipped and rolled there.

another site to help you.

Hi there, how are ya guys doin?
Not a good time for Niah...it's closed now I think due to the weather.....

You can do it in one day yeah, but it's good to stay a night in Miri to rest as well...kinda tough and tiring...a little:)

How's thing for ya guys?

Travel Tips for Miri

Views from Canada Hill

by Willettsworld

Canada Hill, also known as Oil Well Hill, sits to the east of the city centre and is where you'll find Miri's famous landmark and national monument, the Grand Old Lady, the first oil well that was dug in Malaysia back in 1910. You'll also find the interesting Petroleum Museum here as well. The views over the city are pretty good plus the view looking in the opposite direction are of countryside and palm oil plantations.

cool refreshing dip..

by eelaine

taking a dip at the pool outside clearwater caves of mulu national park.. the clear cave water flowing out from a crack at the cave underground.. the water is refreshingly cold and clear.. feels great!

Lambir Bukit Patu

by Lexpat

Located in the lambir Hill national park, this hike is an easy one that will take you from two to thre hours round trip.
What makes it special? Well it's a short and more accessible hike still providing all the beauties of the rain forest and the amazing view over the canopy once you reach the top. Same as for Lambir Hill but 1.5 liter of water should be enough.

Fabulous Seafood

by BorneoGrrl about Local Miri Seafood Restaurants

By virtue of being on the coast, Miri has got some of the best seafood places. You mustn't miss the chance of dining at any of them. Most seafood restaurants here are in the open air so you can enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Go in the evenings when it is a little cooler.

The prices are pretty reasonable as well, but do be careful as some restaurants do not have menus to show the prices, so try to agree on the prices of the items when you order You have to try the buttered prawns, steamed fish, deep fried calamari and tom yam soup. Mmmmmmmm...............

Cemetery Miri

by balhannah

If you like looking at cemeteries, (I do) then there is a huge chinese one here. I found it interesting, the headstones on lots were beautiful.
Its so big, you can easily see it when flying in.
Also, if you head to the older part of Mir, there is actually another cemetery located in the centre of a divided road.
