Miri Community
by jacklww
Apart from all the resourceful information about Miri which is already available here, I hope my contribution about its people is worthwhile to those who wants to know & understand the various cultures and races in that place, or simply wants to make friends with those who are born & bred in there. A forum specifically created for the people of Miri is accessible here and it extends its welcoming arms to everyone else: http://www.miricommunity.net/ . Any questions or feedback for the people of Miri are welcomed - since that is always the most effective way to get answers for your "adventurous" lifestyle (pun intended) :-)
Recommended Clothing
by longsanborn
Can bring comfortable luggage and bags. Lightweight, cool and casual clothes are best for the tropical climate. Shorts are acceptable for women, even in town, so long as they are not too skimpy. Visitors to places of worship must adhere to the regulations imposed. Cotton shorts and T-shirts are best for going on excursions and when trekking in the jungles.
In the evening, some establishments have their own dress code for dining. For men, this may mean a long-sleeved shirt or batik shirt. Rubber flip-flops are definitely out! Bring insect repellant due to mosquitoes. Can bring basic first-aid supply kit, if you wish. But if you forgot something, not to worry. Miri has excellent pharmacies. Can bring your favorite camera. No problem with photo supplies, because Miri has good electronic shops where you can buy supplies. Waterproofing is advisable all year. Bring an umbrella or raincoat. Can wear comfortable sandals or good walking shoes.
Lambir Waterfalls
by BorneoGrrl
Lambir Waterfalls is located in the Lambir Hills National Park and a place is popular with locals especially on the weekends. People come here for picnics or to enjoy nature with the long walks on the way to the waterfalls
The main waterfall is Latak Waterfall, which is the highlight of the trip. There is a sandy beach where you can lie or play sports and swim in the pool below the falls. Wooden tables & benches are prepared for the public to picnic and restrooms are available for your convenience
On the way to Latak Waterfall, you will see a few smaller waterfalls which are also quite popular. The walk to the main waterfall can be quite steep and slippery so bring comfortable shoes. It can also get very humid in the rainforest so bring some refreshments
To get to the waterfalls, it is a half hour drive from Miri and a further 20 min (pleasant) walk to Latak waterfall
Chinese family restaurant
by BorneoGrrl about Boulevard Restaurant
This restaurant had a humble beginning because the owner started with a small restaurant in Sibu town. Then he moved to Miri to open a restaurant with his family in a shoplot in a new commercial area. Now Boulevard restaurant is situated in its own 3-storey building and can cater large functions from weddings to company dinners.
Through the years, it has also maintained its quality of food and reasonable prices. This restaurant doesn't serve pork so the muslims can enjoy their meals here as well There's to many to mention plus the menu changes from time to time. The ones I tried that I like were
- Weekend dim sum (selection)
- Tossed jungle ferns Thai style
- Steamed King prawns
- Hot & Sour soup
- Steamed fish (spicy)
Visit Wind Cave
by DanielF
This Cave, which is actually part of the Clearwater Cave system, got its is name from the cool breezes that blow in its corridors. Our visit did not go further than the so called "Kings Room", which is its broadest and most beautiful part.
This picture shows the sharp rock formations hanging from the entrance of Wind Cave.
