In need of renovation

We were looking forward to a weekend at the Miri Marriott. The hotel is undergoing a renovation so that the wing rooms are closed and they tried to sell us a (more expensive) room in the main part. After some discussion we got a cheaper wing room.

On arrival we were given an upgrade to the main part (exciting) and were assigned a room with a view of the roof (we moved). I could not see much difference between this room and the room in the wings apart from a small sofa versus two cane chairs. The bathroom is ordinary and you have to shower in a small bathtub with a clammy shower curtain. The ventilation in the bathroom was non-existent.

The food and beverage prices strike me as expensive - RM45 for a buffet breakfast (not sure if this is ++). I was feeling not too well and requested cereal and a juice; the cost came to much the same as the full breakfast.

There used to be a nice coffee shop at the entrance where a good filled roll could be had for around RM15. The price has now gone up to RM36. I did not see what it looked like. I suspect that the coffee shop was taking business away from the restaurant.

One drawback is the lack of alternative decent eating in the vicinity

Unique Quality: Nice pool, on the beach, out of town, good parking partly shaded

Beach volleyball can be played at the small beach in front of the garden...

Unique Quality: For 24-hours dining, there is the Zest restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner... For ourdoor dining, there is the Matahari Pool Terrace by the pool area... There is also the Lush lobby bar for drinks and light snacks... The Borneo Baking Company is a Deli located by the lobby which offers fresh bread, pastries, cakes, premium coffees and teas, blended beverages, sandwiches, chocolates and ice-creams...

Great Value!

We stayed for one night at the Miri Marriot in order to hike in Lambir Hills NP. A great experience, we could check in very early, the rooms were so clean and nice. The personel was friendly. Very quiet and relaxing. The beach at the hotel is virtually no beach, but still good sunbathing and to see a nice sunset. The breakfast buffet is one of the best ever. Fresh fruit juice made right in front of you. I can only give compliments to this hotel. And that for 50 Euros for 2 persons incl. bf.

Miri's best hotel

In a tranquil garden setting overlooking the ocean. Our room was large, with a large king size bed and a balcony overlooking the beautiful gardens. A nice spot to enjoy a caffiene break. The pool area was huge and lovely. Breakfast was a buffet with an incredible choice of food. We had dinner here as well, both were excellent. The service here was excellent in every possible way. Definitely would recommend this Hotel

Unique Quality: Fantastic pool, fantastic choices of food, excellent service.

Indulge yourself & get pamperred

The best accomodation in Miri by far.
The hotel, located right to the sea shore is a nice retreat for the ones who are looking for a nice relax break resting aside the pool or getting pampered at the amazing Mandara SPA.

Unique Quality: Service : 'Impecable'
Room : very comfortable. Ask for ground floor with direct access to the pool
Environment: Just outside the City, the only noise you'll hear is the one of the sea
SPA : A must try
Pool : Spacious in a beautiful tropical garden

The new Miri Marriott Resort & Spa

I was in Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia in August 2006 for 1 week to visit my mother. I visited this hotel to see a friend who was visiting Miri at the same time. I asked to see the rooms because I was curious if any changes were made. The last time I was at this hotel was in year 2000 and it was under a different management then, Mega Hotel.

Marriot Group took over and refurbished the whole place. Now it definitely looked better now. The reception area was large, open space end-to-end and tastefully furnished. It was comfortable and cosy. At the sides, there are cafes and cocktail lounges for hotel guests to enjoy the view of the beach and the sunsets. The swimming pool was also excellent. It was large and overlooked the beach near the hotel. The hotel is a bit far from the town centre but there was shuttle bus to transport guests to/from the town. The hotel can also arrange a trip to the Mulu caves.

Overall, I am very impressed with the hotel and its new facilities. It is definitely above-average. I will recommend my friends to stay here when they visit Miri.

Unique Quality: The only Resort Hotel in Miri with a good spa and large pool. Hotel Shuttle Bus to transport guests from/to Hotel to Miri city.

The hotel rates were low compared to other 4-stars hotel of equivalent standard. The rooms were large with double beds and good-quality bedlinens. There were free coffee/tea and mineral water. Lounging chairs, side tables and big TV added a nice touch to the room. The bathroom was OK and the towels were nice and soft. I also went to try out the hotel's in-house spa. It was run by nice and friendly ladies from Bali. I had a relaxing aromatheraphy steambath and full-body massage spa package. It was great because I did not expect this kind of good quality service in a town like Miri.

It's now the Marriott Miri

I've stayed a couple of times in this hotel before it changed management to the Marriott. Nevertheless, the improvement after the change is clearly seen. The hotel overlooks a huge swimming pool and the South China Sea. Rooms are available in the hotel block as well as around the garden area. The rooms in the hotel block are more expensive because of the proximity, quality and view. Garden view rooms are further from the main block, and I feel that they also receive less attention because the rooms are basic and the finishings have deteriorated.

Unique Quality: There is a new addition with the new management which is the Mandara Spa, a Balinese featured place where guests and members can relax, have a massage or manicure, for a price, of course

Nice cottage

We chose to stay in one of the cottages.
It had one large room with a king-sized bed,
TV, writing desk, and love seat.
The bathroom was quite nice with shower and hair dryer .
There was a patio overlooking the garden.

Unique Quality: Lovely views of the beautiful flower garden and the beach.

Lovely hotel

The Marriott Miri Resort and Spa(formerly RIHGA Royal Hotel Miri), is located on a beach, outside of town.
The resort hotel sits majestically on twenty acres of award winning gardens on Brighton Beach, facing the calm and tranquility of the South China Sea.
We loved this resort and would highly recommend it to others.

Unique Quality: Our cottage had a view of the lovely gardens and the beach.
The pool was very large and beautiful.
The view from the lobby breathtaking.
There are several restaurants and bars.
The food was very food.
The service, first class.
They really take care of their guests.
