Excellent rest before caves and Pinnacles

It was an excellent stay. I got a very good deal by staying in Royal Mulu Resort for RM88 (Apr 09). While a dorm bed in the Park costs RM37, I enjoyed the luxury which was very unforgettable. Food and drinks are very expensive in the resort, so beware if you are on budget.

A salad dish is about RM27, main course RM38, a coffee RM8, a coca cola RM10. (Apr 2009).

The resort provides one free transfer to and from the Park, which is about 3 kms away. Additional transfer costs RM6 per trip.

A unique tropical forest experience

This is the only place in Mulu where you can stay in a comfortable hotel... other places are budget style accomodation. Well what does it boil down to?
# Architecture: the hotel is all wooden built on piles three meters above the ground with walk ways in bewteen places.
# Rooms: We took a suite as we were three with my son and had a very spacious place with all facilities one may need. Clean and comfortable, a plus in a wet environment.
# Service: The hotel personnel is very friendly trying to help in everything you need
# Pool: nothing extraordinary but this is the only one in Mulu
# SPA: not the top but after a long day walk a plus much appreciated
# Activities: all the ones offerred by the park and the hotel can organise everything for you

Unique Quality: What makes the place unique is definitely its architecture and the creativity of the Australian manager to open new activities such as
Climbing: in the hotel itself there are two natural climbing walls and one hotel staff is trained to assist you if you are not a climber it's still worthwhile trying!
and
Quad: accross the jungle, a muddy experience but the hotel provides coverall and googles. it fun, it's exciting, something you will never forget

Hotel within a Tropical Rainforest

I went to the Royal Mulu Resort in June 1995 together with my sister. We were on a group tour to the Mulu Caves and we were booked into this hotel. We enjoyed our stay at this Resort, as the rooms were comfortable and air-conditioned. I would recommend others to stay in this Resort if you want to have a comfortable and hassle-free stay while visiting the Mulu Caves and the surrounding rainforest area.

Unique Quality: Designed in the style of ethnic longhouses, this relaxing Resort was built on wooden stilts, three metres above the ground. Linked by a series of wooden walkways, the Resort stands on the banks of the Melinau River, in the midst of a beautiful natural environment.

All guest rooms have parquet floorings with private bath and shower, mini-bar, individually controlled air-conditioning, standard amenities, hot and cold showers. The Resort has its own water treatment plant, which supplies all guest rooms with clean and safe water. Every room enjoys a spacious verandah, which offers guests a stunning view of either the rich surrounding jungle or the Melinau River.

The Royal Mulu Resort is an international-class hotel, offering the best combination of “resort experience”, nature and comfort. The Resort is located near the Gunung Mulu National Park, home of lush rainforest and some of the most amazing cave systems in the world.

A haven of comfort in the jungle.

After an exhausting day of jungle trekking the excellent and comfortable facilities of this resort will be the best reward. After all, civilisation has its pros too and there is nothing better than relaxing at the pool after such an exhausting day! Especially when it is in such an idyllic place as this.

Resort in the midst of rainforest and caves

This was a luxury in the midst of rainforest and caves. Well maintained rooms built on stilts over river and well serviced. Highly recommend if you can affort the pricey rates.

In the heart of the jungle

by kyoub about Royal Mulu Resort

It is quite a surprise to see this resort in the middle of the jungle. Everything is built up on a boardwalk with stilts so you hardly realise that you are in a jungle at all.
We had a very large bedroom with king size bed, TV, Front and back balcony plus bathroom with shower.

Tours and accomodation

by ampangklang

Does anyone know if there are guides there we can arrange tours with? I'd like to give the locals business rather than have some tour agency pocket half my money.

Is there alternative accomodation to the Royal Mulu Resort and the Mulu park dorms?

Thanks!
