I’m not going to rave about this place, really. I’ll grit my teeth and be objective, honest. Damn, two simple sentences and I fail. I loved it. Part of loving it is in being smitten with KL, but for me part of being smitten with KL is in staying in a cozy, classy place within walking distance of a lot of things that make the city interesting and wonderful. That in itself should be a recommendation for the casual traveler. But I’ve also read that this is a 3-star hotel masquerading as something more, and that’s true too. The service throughout is distinctly personal, above-and-beyond helpful. And in a modern city, service makes all the difference.
Objectively: the rooms are on the small side, but are comfortable and immaculate. At least two sides have great skyline views. You cannot beat the location if you like to shop, eat, or walk to your major tourist sites. Getting to the main bus station is easy, although if you have luggage the would-have-been a short walk will cost you proportionally too much. The café downstairs is great, room service is great. Ultra-early wake up calls/alerts/breakfasts need a little work on coordination, but that’s not entirely the hotel’s fault. (Blame stupid flight scheduling and the poor travel agencies that try to coordinate with them.)
