cheap hotel on a budget

I am known to splurge on travels but occasionaly scrimp on hotels and on this one, it maybe too much hehehe since this hotel was rated as a 3 star but the facilities inside are very old and they have a damp and musty smell. the only saving grace if any of this hotel is that it is located in the chinatown area and is near two rail terminals, the World Trade Center MRT line awnd the Chow Kit Monorail Line. outside the hotel are lots of real cheap and good food choices and 2 nearby 7-11's just outside the hotel although I would not recommend this hotel for everyone unless your a back packer. these is a nearby Grand Central hotel which offer better facilities about a half mile away so I would reccomend you to stay there instead.

Unique Quality: lots of shops and cheap malaysian, malaysian-chinese and malaysian-indian cousines outside and a nearby night market in chow kit area near the monorail tracks of which we bought some plug adaptors. This area is also known as the red light district of Kuala Lumpur

Crappy Hotel

A crappy little hotel, with crappy breakfast. Only "advantage" is the location which is right in the middle of the infamous "Chow Kit Road". Well you can call it an advantage if you checked in durign the Chinese New Year Holiday, because the roads are practically empty and it is so easy to move around and parking spaces are plenty. Any other days, it is practically a nightmare in which case, the area is overly crowded.

Unique Quality: If you wanna soak in the atmosphere of the bustling normal people (not the touristy type), come on down to Chow Kit Road.
This hotel is very near to the Thieves Market, where you can find jeans for only RM5 (about US$1.64). Be careful about the sizes though, what is stated as size 34 for example can be actually size 26.... duh...
Other "branded" items like bags, watches, shoes are also available. Even used safety shoes and "leather jackets" can be found.

Good Location & Price

My family and I checked in for a 3d2n stay on 28 Jul 2007. We booked two standard rooms of a comfortable size. It is a 2 star hotel, old & basic. Has front office staff who are approachable. Those in the coffee house are short-handed but still efficient, cleaning up tables in a wink. I think about everyone who stayed there had a bed & breakfast package since it is so affordable. We paid RM86.25 per room per day because I am a member of a hotel booking service, Grand Reception (604-3998818). Food is noodles, fried rice, cereal, bread with margarine & jam, congee. Quite good.

The room we stayed had two single beds each, clean but the bathroom tiles need some scrubbing. There was a mini fridge, tv and the wardrobe has hangers and a spare pillow. Shampoo, & soap provided. The white bath towels were white.

There were two sockets in my room so I was able to blow dry my hair (my own hair drier) and iron my graduation robe (my own iron). Iron can be borrowed from the housekeeping.

Unique Quality: Has excellent location, being just 5 mins walk away from PWTC, LRT and the Mall, a medium sized shopping complex which you can conveniently pop into in case of emergencies like in my case, where I forgot to take along my make-up. When I was there, the shops were also having sale with good discounts.

Has cheap parking lots beside and opposite the hotel. We paid RM3 for a whole day.

Directly opposite the hotel is a 7-11, laundry, newsagent with international call & internet facilities (RM2.50 per hr). Just a few shoplots away is an old Chinese coffee shop (Man Lien) with good homecooked style food you can order from a menu at reasonable prices. Opens only in the evening.

There is also a pizza restaurant nearby, coffee shops with hawker food and if you turn right at the junction nearby (Jalan Raja Laut), you will find a cinema, KFC and many other shops.
