Into trains? Then stay here- budget hotel

I stayed here on my first trip to KL and it is a budget hotel. Location is not bad - once you are orientated - though you can just walk out of the hotel and catch a train to Sentral which makes things easier. This is a real no frills hotel but I loved the old world station atmosphere.

It is a short walk to China Town and Central Market - again, when you work out which way you are facing - and there are one way streets and underpasses to confuse you.

The room was very basic but clean and with A/C. There is a dining room - again basic but cheap and the food was lovely, tho not much choice. The workers cafe just outside the front door was better but a little intimidating on my first trip. (I have eaten here since and great food, very cheap)

I don't stay here any more only because it is a bit out of the way when I am walking around solo.

Unique Quality: The Heritage Station Hotel is located at the old Kuala Lumpur Railway Station, one of the most distinctive Railway Station's in the world. The building has been gazetted as a heritage site since 14 April 1983.

If you are into trains this is the place to stay...lts of intersting pics and stories and out near the platform is a small museum with...you guesed it...trains.

The Heritage Station Hotel Kuala Lumpur

The Old KL Trainstation is not only a pearl of Mogul style architecture from Colonial times - not to say the symbol of Colonial architecture in KL - no, it is also the home of a beautiful fairytale-like hotel, the Heritage Station Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
Towers and arches give you the impression your are in Rajasthan, the inside is dominated by dark heavy wood. Rooms really are spacious and the prices are reasonable, starting from 108 RM. They offer superior, deluxe, even family rooms and suites. Sometimes with four-poster beds. The place is huge, so dont get lost in the long hallways where you can breath the colonial atmosphere - though, these endless hallways sometimes gave me a "Shining"-feeling, just like the movie, I expected a crazy Jack Nicholson to show up. I do have to mention though that you really live the ancient architecture, also in the furniture, which sometimes have a worn-out touch. But hey, just like the original firsttime old-school elevator, it gives the right charme to this place.
This is my favourite place to stay in KL for sure! I can highly recommend it.

The restaurant serves good food and the setting seemed to be used for a fashion photo-shooting, according to the magazine pages I saw.

Another advantage is the the location and public transport connection. For my Singapore visit, I took the coach right in front of the station.

A Moorish style hotel

Situated at the heart of neo Moorish train station. A bit spooky? Naaaah, that's only my feeling.

Unique Quality: Even has modern decoration in the room, the old building is something not to be missed. And neat.

More about Heritage Station Hotel

Old KL Train Station

by Blatherwick

The architect of the train station, A.B. Hubbock, had served the British administration in India and brought his moorish designs into his concepts. The KL train station was built in 1886 and it resembles the temples in the area with its unique combination of domes and minarets. It was extended in 1967 which made more office space and created the Heritage Station Hotel at the station's northern wing. Only KTM Komuter trains stop at this old railway station now.

The Raliway Station

by Audrey118

It was built in 1911 and was design by A.B.Hubbock again!!! Hubbock worked for the Public Works Department in India prior to his appointment with the Federated Malay States Public Works Department and hence the influence over many of Malaysian architecture during his tenure.

The Moorish architecture suggests North Indian Islamic influence. The train shed has been influence by the large glass and iron train shed of Victoria Station in England which was constructed during the Victorian era.

It is no longer used as a train station - now the main train station is Sentral which is near Brickfields/ start point of Bangsar.

There is still the old Heritage Station Hotel which now have 113 room was formerly known as Boys' Hotel. The original room was very basic and mainly utilised by the train workers. The hotel also has a coffeehouse, a ballroom, a game room and several other restaurant. If you are at the entrance you can see the high ceiling and with old lightings etc

Budget Hotel

by cafank

Looking for a budget hotel for 2 nights next week. Have checked many reviews but haven't found too many recent ones.

Has anyone info/recommendation on Hotel China Town or The Heritage Station Hotel. Both look OK for budget and close to stations/transport.

Cheers

We are planning to stay at the Swiss Inn in Chinatown this year as it's a great location, plus a budget hotel that's quite nice.

hi cheryl...

hotel chinatown is a fine hotel located in the midst of chinatown... or you can also consider dragon inn premium hotel (next to chiantown)... the heritage station hotel is lcoated at the old railway station and is very secluded, in the midst fo nowhere...
