recently opened (sept '06) central KL hotel

Modern 28 story hotel, opened in second half of 2006, in "Golden Trioangle" near Bukit Bintang, Petronas Towers and KL Concention Centre.
When I booked over the net, the place wasn't even open yet, and they were offering great deals: we booked an Executive 1 King Bed for approx. 65 Euro p/n, with breakfast and happy hour drinks in the Biz Lounge on the 28th floor included: that won't last, I'm afraid...
The hotel has all mod cons: pool with bar and sun deck, gym, meeting rooms etc. etc.- see their website.

Unique Quality: Location: as above- all within easy walking distance.
Approx 10 rooms per floor, Exec rooms on floor 24-27.
Restaurant and bar on ground floor, more entertainment to come.
Near Raya Chulan monorail station- connection to Chinatown and KL Sentral train station.
Great views from the upper floors (weather permitting).

Novotel Century Hotel

Stayed at this hotel when I was there for my cousin's wedding. From the outside, the hotel looks good but....

We asked for non-smoking room but was told that there are only 2 levels of room that are non-smoking and that they are occupied. We can't checkin the room immediately as they were not ready. We were asked to go walk around and come back for our room.

The room we were given had such strong cigarette smell, we had to open the door to air the place. Our room faced a public housing block and had a view of the filthy ledge piled up with rubbish.

by Greenona about Novotel Hydro Majestic Kuala Lumpur

I have not stayed at this hotel yet but I was told it was opened for Business 2 weeks ago. Novotel Hydro Majestic is conveniently located adjacent to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, in the famous Golden Triangle tourist and commercial precinct. The 28 storey hotel features 288 rooms, an executive floor, 5 Food and Beverage outlets, a fitness centre, spa and swimming pool. Situated in the popular Buki Bintang shopping district, and only 500 metres from Petronas Twin Towers (the worlds tallest building), guests have easy access to the city's trendiest boutiques, cafes and major tourist attractions.

My next favourite hotel in KL!

by TripAdvisor Member orientbear

I think Novotel Hydro will be my next favourite hotel in Kuala Lumpur. I booked it through the hotel website and got the advantge plus member rate. I didn't encounter any problem when I was at the hotel. The hotel staff are polite and efficient. I got my iron and ironing board within minutes after calling housekeeping. I was pleasantly surprised when I got complimentary use of internet and umlimited complimentary local calls (I booked the Biz Room --not sure if they offer the same for other room types). Other perks for Biz Room is quite standard as other hotels (eg. breakfast, afternoon snacks, newspapers, use of meeting room, etc). As for the room, I expected it to be a bit bigger and nicer.. but it's alright for me. What I like best about this hotel is it's location --

1. I took a taxi from KL Sentral (with coupon purchased from Budget Taxi counter) for rm12 to the hotel. This was a hassle-free ride.

2. There is a overhead bridge with escalator linking the road on the hotel side to the Pavillion Mall. The fastest way to go there is to go through the door next to the Tour Desk at the hotel lobby, walk down the staircase and out of the glass door. The overhead bridge is only about 10 meters away on your right! The Pavillion is a big mall.. my favourite level is the 6th floor as there is a Times Bookshop (with a nice cafe), a spa (with fish spa -- you know the one with small fish biting your feet), Starbucks, Golden Village movie cinema (try the couple seats -- really big and comfortable!), many restaurants (including TGIF), Big Apple donut cafe (I've not tried though), etc.

3. There is an office building next to the hotel with quite nice cafes. I tried Franko Cafe (ground level) and the food is quite good. There is also Subway cafe next to Franko Cafe and a food court at basement level.

4. Walk to the end of the office building (see #3) and you'll see the KL Convention Centre. I heard there's an underground walkway from the convention centre to KL Twin Towers, so it's just a short walk.

5. If you walk to the other end of Pavillion, you're at Bukit Bintang! -- the happening place in KL. This is the main shopping belt in KL.. the Berjaya Times Square (with an indoor amusement park) is also within walking distance.

Very Happy.

We book Novotel via the accor website. This was for our stopover stay in KL on our way to Bali by Malaysian Airlines. The standard room was not available but the Biz Room was still within our budget. Our initial booking was for 2 nights only, before we head off north for 4 nights in Perak beach. We liked it so much that after the 1st night we decided to re-book a room for the 1 night before our flight to Bali and for another 2 night stopover on the way back from Bali to Melbourne. We went to Perak, and came back to check in at Novotel for 1 night (already pre-booked). But because of some mis-administration on their behalf, the hotel gave us an executive suite with a view of the Twin Tower for the price of the Biz Lounge. A pity it was only for the 1 night. The staff were extremely helpful especially the girls at the 28th floor Biz Lounge. The concierge helped us find a schedule for a local cinema and negotiate on renting a taxi to take us around Putra Jaya before heading off to the airport on our last day. The breakfast and high tea at the Biz Lounge were tasty. All 3 rooms were quiet, the rooms (apart from the executive which has its own lounge room) are good size, and we slept fitfully. Definitely will book again. Book the Biz Lounge if you are staying here. You'll get more privacy.

extremely pleasant

I stayed at the hotel with 3 under 16 children for 3 nights during the recent Raya break. The hotel is situated minutes away fr KLCC & the Bintang Walk. Shopping is convenient. The room & bath are clean but nothing to shout about the size. The staff is friendly & efficient. The breakfast was good & my 3 children had 3 good meals without extra charge. The best part was the management allowing us to use the swimming pool & the pool side shower upon check out. So the kids played at the pool while i relax at its pool side sofa until 5 pm, taking our shower before leaving for airport. I really appreciate that. Bravo. . Keep up good work. Will be back soon.

Poor service

by TripAdvisor Member sdhayes

Got a cheap rate, but was really disappointed with the Novotel. Having stayed in the faultless Novotel in Bangkok in the past, this one fell way short.

My main gripe is the service/operation, which was poor. 40 mins to check in and a similar amount of time to check out. There appear to be plenty of staff, but they tend to disappear or have other things to do. Coming from Thailand, the attitude towards service was noticably very poor.

6 calls required for reception to bring up a kids (rollaway) bed which had been pre-ordered.
3 baby cots had to be returned - having broken railings and nails sticking out. Hardly something you want a baby climbing about in!

The hotel is a tall building with relatively few bedrooms on each floor. This means it has 40 or so floors. The lifts are tiny and fit approx 8 (asian) people in. Hence, you can often be waiting 10 mins in a morning to get down to the lobby for breakfast. Particularly if it's near capacity.

The swimming pool is pretty tiny - a bit of a surprise with a name like the 'Hydro' !

The location is good. It's a 5-min walk to Bukit Bintang for shopping malls and similar to the Petronas Towers.

The breakfast and Malaysian buffet dinner were its better features.

If you're a young couple who just want a base to crash and explore, then it's very keenly priced. If you want efficient, friendly service then you may well be disappointed.

Executive Room or Junior Suite for Better Value

by TripAdvisor Member h4ni

I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times and all I can say is, take an Executive room for just a little more, or go for the Junior Suite, which really costs just as much as a normal hotel room at a 5-star hotel in the area, or even less, depending on the season.
The hotel is centrally located, within walking distance to the new Pavillion shopping mall and the Raja Chulan monorail station. A shortcut through the KL Convention Center will take you to KLCC, if you want to walk there.
The cheaper rooms are small and look a little cold, if you ask me. But if your intention is just to night over in KL, then that's fine.
The great thing about booking the executive floors is that you have a much more private check-in upstairs, and tea and breakfast at the executive lounge, which is so much better than battling for food at the buffet downstairs.
The Chinese Restaurant serves Chinese Muslim food but I would just rate it average. However, there aren't many places in KL serving this type of Chinese cuisine.
One word of advice: if you are going by car, don't attempt to park your SUV in the basement. Either leave your car with the valet or park next door at the open-air car park. The Novotel's car park is not designed for large cars (we couldn't manoeuvre our car down beyond the first level).

Simply could not be better! An absolute GEM!

by TripAdvisor Member Harrio

The Hydro Majestic is one of the many Novotel hotels in the region, and if I am not mistaken it is listed as a three star hotel in KL, however it should be listed as at the very lest FOUR STAR, possibly even FIVE STAR!

We stayed here for 3 nights on our way to Penang, haviong fown from Beijing. We are a couple in our early 30's who are 16 months through an 18month round the world trip.

From the Airport = the hotel is about 30km from the airport, as is the entire city. It will take about 30-40 mins in a cab. MAKE SURE TO BUY A VOUCHER FROM THE LICENCSED CAB DESK before you exit into the arrival lounge. I think it cost about $10US.

LOCATION - the hotel is located in the center on KL and right beside the new PAVILLION shopping mall which contains every single major shop and brand in the world at European prices, but also a number of excellent but reasonable restaurants where yyou can eat in the evening if you wish. Open till ten

Reception - staff could not be better, extremely professional and attentive, helpful and excellent english. you will have someone bring your bags from teh taxi directly to your room on check in. A tip may be expected, but well worth it

Room - We had a standard double room, and when we booked we asked for a view of the Petronas Towers which we got without any problem, on the 16th floor, its a partial view but as good as the VIP rooms get. The room itself was excellent. Spotlessly clean, modern and well appointed. Large double bed, lounge chairs, mini bar, excellent sat TV with evey single sports channel in the world and movies as well. Excellent air con. Bathroom was also perfect and extremely clean. Mini safe in room too which is always good. We only had one robe in the room on arrival and I rang reception to get a second one, 3 minutes later it arrived! Superb

Facilities - the hotel has a fully equipped gym, poool outdoors and also a SPA floor with reasonably priced treatments. It also has a number of business centers for email and web access, albeit slightly overpriced. There is abr downstairs serving drinks and reasonably priced snacks, with waitress service that is top notch

Security - extremely safe loaction and hotel in general, card access doors, safe in room, doormen 24 hours and security thorughout the hotel

STAFF - could not be better, possibly the best we have copme across on this trip around the world taking in 4 continents. Cant say enough about them

Breakfast - without doubt the finest buffet and service you could ever hope for. This has everything, from cereals to made in front of you omlettes, and everything else in between. Its an absolute must!

TOP TIP - Book with their website direct for best deals, accorhotels.com, and take the offer of included breakfast, it will save you about 40% on having to pay for it on the day. When bookeing ask for a Petornas Tower view

We would stay here time and time again, it is quite simply the best hotel we have come across in months and perfect in every way, while remaining affordable enough for a backpacker to manage. Its ideal for a few days in KL, where there really is not a whole lot else to do, so the time in the hotel becomes crucial, and this place will not let you down.

Our family and friends who visit KL in the future will be told to stay here.

Enjoy
:-)

New Interior but old exterior

by TripAdvisor Member The_TravellerSg

Stayed on the Executive Level providing complimentary internet access which is important for business traveller and complimentary snacks in the evening though I did not try the snacks while I was there.

Service was prompt and efficient but though the rooms are well maintained, it has a rather "old" feeling, the public area leading to the rooms are a little bit stuffy but once in the rooms, it's ok so nothing much to complain about.

Breakfast in the executive lounge was a little limited which set me thinking if it would be better at the restaurant. They have a Chinese restaurant in the hotel but was closed when the time I arrived at about 2:00pm for lunch. Disappointment!!!

Close to KLCC which means you can literally walk there given the chaotic traffic condition there, it's better to walk than to take a cab which demanded RM$5 for a 5 mins ride when I was carrying bottled water back to the hotel!!!

Overall the hotel average and is good for Accor members as they provide discount and the F 7 b establishment

Breakfast at Hydro Majestic Novotel KL

by Karinsky

Hi,

We are going to book Novotel KL for 4 nights October. Since the prices are so good we are thinking of booking a Club room which includes breakfasts. When I go to the booking page it gives me an option to pay an extra 20 ringets for the Square buffet breakfast. I would have thought the breakfast that was included was also a buffet. Can anybody advise me on whether the 'Square' is worth paying an extra 20 a night per person for and what the difference in the two breakfasts would be. Thanks for your help. This certainly is a great site and I've received some wonderful help with my holiday.

i don't know what's Square breakfast is but for rm20 per person, that's expensive. not worth paying so much extra for breakfast. u can always use the money to try out local breakfast if the 'original' breakfast didn't satisfy u. famous local breakfast : nasi lemak (malay), fried noodle/porridge (chinese) and roti canai or tosai(indian). have fun!
