Very Convenient in KL
by mayshi about Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur
We had a pleasant stay at this hotel last May 25, 2006. The reception staff are very helpful and courteous. The deluxe rooms were very nice and clean. And the location of this hotel is very convenient , as we got into Kuala Lumpur via KTM Intercity Night train from Singapore, and arrived at the Sentral kuala Lumpur Station, this hotel is just across the street, going to other places in KL is easy because the LRT and MRT are right in this Sentral KL Station. We took the putraline LRT to get to KLCC Suria and the Petronas twin tower, also the monorail, which we took to get to Menara KL ( KL Tower), is also just across the street from the Sentral KL Station. I would certainly reccomend this hotel to others.
Disappointing

I have to say that I was surprised at how much positive feedback there was about this hotel. Perhaps we were spoilt by spending three nights at the Ritz-Carlton at the beginning of our trip but we really weren't that impressed.
We arrived at Le Meridien early in the morning following a night train from Penang and spent just one night before our morning flight out. It was our first choice because we were exhausted after the train journey and wanted to be able to get as much out of our remaining 24 hours in KL. I preferred being in the heart of the city at the Ritz-Carlton and being able to walk to hawker stalls etc but Sentral is very handy for the LRT/monorail/KLIA Ekspres and we didn't need to catch any taxis, despite seeing a lot of the city in one day.
Our room was fairly small but well furnished and had everything we needed, but it was very much a regular hotel room. There wasn't anything special about it. We absolutely detested the snazzy light switches - the porter hadn't shown us how to use them so when we were awoken by the doorbell two hours later we spent a while fumbling around like fools trying to find some light. Normal switches should suffice - this just seemed a bit pretentious.
Service was average - you can tell it isn't a five star hotel. The woman on the front desk when we checked in was surly and this was the only place we stayed in Malaysia and Thailand where people seemed to be waiting for us to tip them, which was off-putting.
The swimming pool is huge but very shallow and being free-form it's not good for swimming. The highlight here is the great views of the city and the fact that it stays open til ten - we had a swim here at about 8pm to cool off before heading back out for food. The water slide was fun, even if we were probably too old for it. The changing rooms were disappointing, on par with what you would expect at a public beach or swimming pool.
When we got up to the pool we spent about 5 minutes looking for someone we could get some towels off - there were all these burly, official looking men hanging around but no-one who looked like they worked in the pool/recreation department.
The bed was comfortable and the shower pleasant, so we can't really complain. At the end of the day, it was ideal for one night as it meant we could get up a little later to get to the airport than if we were in town, but I wouldn't recommend it for a longer stay - KL is such a great city and you really miss out on the feel of it being by Sentral station. This is just a four-star hotel with five-star aspirations that it doesn't manage to see through.
One final thing - don't eat in the hotel! Please, this is one of the greatest food cities in the world - street food/hawker stalls is safe, clean and wonderful - so get out there!
good for short business stays

Have stayed here a couple of times in the last month on short business trips trying it out for its convenience in relation to the airport express. The rooms are reasonable if a bit small by KL standards, service is generally pretty good, although has those sort of odd moments that all but the very best places in Malaysia tend to have, although much much better than sister hotel Westin. Free in room and wireless broadband a major plus point
While convenient in some ways you pretty much have to leave KL Sentral where the hotel is located to do anything, so arguably the time you save by not having to take a taxi to a hotel in Bukit Bintang or wherever in the centre, are lost as you end up going there for dinner etc.
Meridien is convenient for public transport but be warned try and take the LRT to KLCC at 8-20am and there 100's and 100's of people on the platform and only tiny very very full trains which only a few people each time manage to get into each time.
Location is great though if you have an early appointment out in the Klang valley as you are straight onto the highway.
Overall good for short business stays, but for long trips or vacation book a hotel in the city centre.

Transportation - Airport to Le Meridien (KL Sentral Station) & To Genting Highlands
by TheAbreo
Hello,
We are a family of 4 traveling to KL for the first time. We will be staying at Le Meridian.
I would appreciate it, if someone would advice us of the various options and also the best way to get from the airport to the hotel and approximate costs of the same.
Also, what is the best way to get to Genting Highlands and how much does it cost.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
The Abreo

If the hotel is right by Sentral Station, then just take the express train form the airport, its cheap and takes about 25 mins to get there.
Hope this helps

Hi!
Its cheaper to take a cab direct from the airport (either KLIA's main terminal or LCCT) straight to Le Meridien since you travel in group of 4. Fare for a cab is approx RM100 while the airport train charge RM35/pax. You can take the Genting Coach frm KL Sentral to Genting Highlands. The fare is aprrox RM10/pax.
