Most Accommodating Hotel

Architecturally beautiful lobby/hotel. A 4 1/2 star hotel without the pretentious-ness. Rooms were great. Staff was great. I will say, as an embarrassment to myself that I was locked in the stairwell for over an hour. I was just going to go down one flight and by the time I saw the sign that said doors lock and there is no re-entry it was too late. Oh, well. That is how traveling goes.

Unique Quality: Semi indoor pool. Breakfast included... FULL breakfast. Excellent advice on local restaurants.

Overrated & Confused Property

I am a frequent biz traveller to KL and each time I would stay in hotels around KLCC. Over the years, this is the only property that changes branding and concept every 2 years or thereabouts. It was a Radisson, followed by Park Plaza. Then it became Hotel Grand Maya and now it's a boutique hotel called Hotel Maya

Overall, the change this time around is significant - larger rooms and modern amenities (rainshower shower heads and decent bath tubs). The addition of a spa is a plus point

And the re-designed and themes of its restaurants is a welcome change

However, it reeks of a bit of pretentiousness. The poolside/ spa dining outlet has pizzas on the menu. Room service takes nearly 40 minutes while ala carte dishes are inconsistent in terms of garnishing and taste

The staff tries very hard to please. This is its main saving grace. So perhaps the issue is insufficient manning or training

Lastly, 2 things that remained unchanged and a negative point for travellers - there is a cemetery behind the hotel and the hotel proper is sandwiched between 2 office blocks (front and back of the building are offices). Thus first impression upon arriving at the hotel is always a bit of a damper

Unique Quality: Location to KLCC is within a stone's throw ... and the warmth of the harried staff is great!!!

Truly an urban oasis

Actually this hotel is now known simply as Hotel Maya (formerly Park Plaza Hotel and Grand Sri Maya). Now this hotel has been redesigned into a fabulous urban boutique hotel with superb interior design and one-of-its-kind services. I really loved the studio room which I stayed in. Timber-strip floors, well-appointed bathroom with luxurious rainshower, heavenly twin beds, etc. The room utilises a lot of mirrors which gives it a very chic look. I also loved the swimming pool, simply amazing. It is called a Hydrotheraphy Pool (waterjets a la jacuzzi and heated to perfection). To be honest, this is one of the best hotels I've stayed in KL!

Unique Quality: The room, the Sky Lounge (KLCC view, very fantastic at night), the Hydrotherapy Pool, unique breakfast serving at the Maya Brasserie, great services overall.

More about Maya Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Best Weve Stayed In A Long Time!

by TripAdvisor Member Henwoods

We spent 3 nights at the Hotel Maya and it was the best 3 nights of our 9 day trip away!!! We had originally booked a studio room, but after checking into our room we wanted to get a room that was a bit bigger, so we went down to front desk and asked to be shown a deluxe suite. We were originally quoted 80RMB more for the upgrade, however when coming back from dinner we were told that we were upgraded FOC! We stayed on the 22nd floor and the view of the petronas towers from our window was great...

The deluxe suite was fantastic, the room layout was done so well, the bathroom was huge, dressing room was also huge and the bed and the linen was so so comfortable! I am very picky with beds and linen and this was absolutely wonderful! If you have to run from the dressing room to the front door you know that you are staying in a large room!

We booked our hotel through Asia Web Direct and they provided us with the malaysian exprience fit for a king and queen. We had massages, breakfast, items pressed daily FOC and much much more.

The staff at the hotel went above and beyond there duties even did some shopping for us at the markets (unbelieveble) and made our stay here the best weve exprienced in a long time. WE travel and stay in hotels often and this wins hands down.

We will be defintely staying here again!

average room but nice deco. bad service!

by TripAdvisor Member js1e

its our first time stay in this hotel. at first we are quite sceptical from the outside, but before the stay, i once had a company function there and my first impression to the surrounding and decor was like 'cool'. this is gonna be my next hotel in my list. and so i checked-in a couple of weeks later..

check-in staff was okay. friendly and threw a few smiles. the room was ok, but here's the complaint.

1. the telephone was smelly! u can actually smell other's saliva. yuck!

2. bathroom was leaking. complaint, but minimal intervention. at first they promised to move us to a new room, but they didnt. we did not follow up cos of the hassle to move our stuffs (only 3 nights)

3. worse of all - SERVICE! very rude staffs. 4 out of 5 staffs we encountered was plain rude. i didnt expect friendliness (cos my expectation was not high for this hotel) but i was surprised by the rudeness where the guy just looked at me with an eye and even responded with a high voice.

there are plenty more hotels in klcc area. i have stayed more than a dozen 5-star hotels in kl area in the past 2 months, so far this is the WORSE in terms of service.

but if you want an unforgettable experience, go ahead and stay at hotel maya. try their truly 'unique' hospitality. well anyway, i made my complaint and their manager responded with an email with apology. he said he's investigating my report. now at least there's a good part of it.

loved it

by TripAdvisor Member hishamk

Stayed at the maya for our honeymoon for seven days. Loved the feel of the hotel and the design. Rooms lived up to the expectations were very clean and well maintained. Bathroom was amazing in the junior suite. Whenever we needed something staff were efficient and courteous. One major complaint is that the reception staff is a bit iffy on the packages offered at the hotel so make sure u save the page and point it out to them if needed. And double check all reservations as they seemed to be having a bit of a problem with their systems. But that was still a very minor issue overall and we loved our stay at the maya. The japanese resteraunt was excellent but all night menu was not quite up to the mark food quality was found lacking. The spa staff wasnt too helpful either but the concierge desk was very helpful and went out of the way at times to make helpful recommendations and reservations if needed. Overall i would say if u want the big hotel feel u are better off going somewhere else as there is no lobby culture at the hotel but there would be nothing which would make me think twice aout checking back in.

nearest currency exchange beside hotel maya

by missjay

hi,

im leaving for kl next week and staying at hotel maya. can anyone tell me where the nearest currency exchange counter ( from a respectable bank if possible) beside the hotel is? i dont want to exchange dollars at the hotel front desk since the exchange rate is usually low.i would appreciate your feedbacks, thanks!

Re: nearest currency exchange beside hotel maya

by khalid48

Are you coming in thru the KLIA Airport or LCCT ? If you are, there are many currency exchange counter over there (at KLIA)..or if you missed it and proceed from the airport to KL Central (using the ERL or The AirAsia BUS).there are also many exchange counter at KL Central...normally the rate provided by the private counter is slightly better than the bank..however if you arrived late at night, I'm afraid there will be no counter open..so you need to wait until the next day..agree never change your money at the hotel..it is very, very low...in KL you can find the currency exchange counter at almost all shopping complex..if I'm not mistaken Hotel Maya is not far from
KLCC..there you can change your money

Re: nearest currency exchange beside hotel maya

by Wiley_Coyote

given that just about every shopping center has at least one or two currency exchange offices, competition is pretty good between them...thus the rates are prety good. hotels rip you off since they have you captive and most people don't bother. anyway, i'm still amazed at why people would exchange cash these days when ATM machines offer probably the best rates. unless you're getting completely screwed by your bank in ATM fees, it's usually the way to go!

hi jay...

just walk down the road to klcc and there are 3 banks in the klcc suria shopping complex... there are also money changers as well... or public bank on the way to klcc... it is less than 10mins walk from hotel maya...
