Shangri-La hotel in Kuala Lumpur was definitely the best experience ever, considering hotels that I had chance to visit. It is supreme luxury with excellent discreet service and exquisite choice of european and oriental food. Room was spacious with air conditioner of course, big bed, buffet and TV. We came in October, weather was excellent and in that period of year hotel had special offer for minimum stay 3 nights because they do not have many customers during that time. We payed three times less than average price.
Unique Quality: My wife and I were in suite bedroom on 28 th floor with beautiful view on surrounding area and famous Menara tower. The best thing was that we found orchids on our pillows and basket with fresh oriental fruit (star fruit and Ranbutan) on coffe table every morning when we returned to room after breakfast. Bathroom is spacious with 2 bath tubs and everything is in marble. Hotel has nice not so big outdoor swimming pool, gym and sauna. Everything is very clean. There was also something interesting in restaurant. They have paper table cloths with pastels in all colors so that children can draw and stay calm while waiting for their food or parents drinking coffe after meal.
Directions: Always use taxi in Malaysia because it is very very cheap. It is 45 minutes drive from airport. Shopping area is 5 min walk from hotel.
The Shangri-la is in a very convenient location, close to the Petronas towers, the KL tower and a metro station. Many of the rooms on the higher foors have a view of the Petronas towers, although partially obscured by buildings. A standard room has good facilities, including very comfortable beds, and is everything you would expect from a good quality city hotel.
The hotel offers an extensive breakfast buffet with many international choices.
Unique Quality: One of our favourite features is the lobby bar. There is a stage on top of the bar area, where a very competent trio perform almost every evening. Requests taken! There is a good cocktail and snack menu, quite pricey but the food and drinks are well prepared and presented.
Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur is probably one of the oldest hotel in KL and has long been a favourite amongst locals & visitors alike. It has undergone some renovations to keep up with time but still maintains the same Shangri-La quality that has been expected of the hotel chain. Located in the corner of Jalan Sultan Ismail & Jalan P Ramlee, the hotel is close to the major nightspots and a 10 min walk to KLCC. The rooms are pretty spacious and comfortable, complete with all the modern amenities. Plus, the hotel is surrounded by lovely gardens which is a good escape from the hustle & bustle of KL.
Second time at Shangri-La in Jan 2006. Well, it is good, cannot argue with that. I feel though the hotel is a bit impersonel. A business hotel. Anyways, I like the gym very much. Good treadmills that includes entertainment systems and a feeling of running in the rainforest, nice touch. I weight train a lot so I really appreciate the free weights area. Only a smith-machine but it works. The staff could be a bit more helpful though.
Breakfast area is still nice and there are so, so much food, too much! We ordered breakfast at the room and it was sent a bit late but the meal was lovely. The staff made a mistake and tried to charge us a bit too much, they were very regrettful to make up for the mistake. Apreciated!
The entertainment in the Lobby during christmas time consists of singing girls from the Filipines. They sing very well but it is a bit tacky that they walk around and talk with the guests afterwards, in my opinion.
As we go to KL each year we will be there again in Jan 2007, we will tryout the WESTIN or Mandarine Oriental. Not Shangri-La.
Jan 2005. We arrived at the Shangri-La in the middle of the night from a horrid experience at the Federal at Bintang. The service is excellent. The staff works fast and are eager to help. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and feels welcoming. We stayed three nights and got a late check out. A baby cot for our child got to our room ten minuts after our check in. No fuss. Smiling and friendly staff. Good poolarea. Fantastic breakfast buffet. Any food is available. Amazing japanese restaurant on site, expensive but the food is outstanding. THe service is inpeccable. We had sandwiches from the Lemon cafe and there were very very fresh and good.
Great hotel with modern amenities. Wonderful restaurant, the Lemon Garden that has a buffet for all 3 meals of the day. They have a full western section for those die hards who don't like dim sum or chinese.
My room looked out over the KL tower which was a treat.
We stayed a week, I could have moved in! The staff were friendly and helpful. I loved my room service breakfast. The fresh fruit was great, but the toast was fresh, since I was provided with a toaster to ensure it was just how I liked it. The view from the Gym window (of tropical leaves) spurred me on in my exercise. Quite simply the best hotel I have ever stayed at!
Unique Quality: All of it!
Unique Quality: All 662 guestrooms, including 101 suites are equipped with an impressive list of amenities and posh furnishing. Each room offers central air-conditioning with in-room controls, a flat-screen TV and all the deluxe in-room and bathroom perks that you expect from a five-star luxury hotel. The hotel's Horizon Club lounge on Level One serves frequent business travellers with personalized check-in, complimentary breakfast, and comprehensive business services along with all-day beverage service. Hotel staying guests are entitled to complimentary airport transfers, laundry, breakfast and internet access. Dine at any one of the hotel's top restaurants - pick Lafite for the best in western cuisine or check out the Shang Palace, the hotel's Chinese restaurant, for their delectable dim sum range. The Shangri-la Hotel is close to the Monorail station, which enables guests' easy access to many of the city's attractions. The hotel underwent a thorough renovation in 2009, so everything's still spanking new.

I'm planning a trip from Manila to Kuala lumpur in June. Can someone tell me what's the most convenient way from KLIA to Shangri-la Hotel Kuala Lumpur in Jalan Sultan Ismail. We are planning to stay there for3 nights and then go to singapore via train. Can you also tell me the most convenient way from this hotel to KL Sentral. Thanks so much.
KLIA to Shangrila is best with the airport taxi - may be a bit expensive but if there's 3 of you travelling, it is better to take the airport taxi. look for the taxi counter and buy your ticket.
The cost of train from KLIA to Sental is RM35 per person per way. The ride is smooth though and takes approximately 28mins to the Sentral station, then hop onto a taxi to the hotel.
Again, taxi is best from Shangrila to Sentral.
Have a nice stay!!
Totally agree, the airport taxis are very convenient & hassle free - the airport taxi costs around 70RM into town - journey takes about one hour.
~Mette~
the best would be by taxi from airport to shangri la.
option two, you can take KLIA express - KL Sentral which cost u rm35 each person and take monorail from kl sentral to shangrila which cost u rm 2.10. to take monorail you need to cross the roads since the monorail station is outside kl sentral's building.
