Stopovers in KL, timing?
by reddart67
Hi, I will be stopping over in KL on the way to Bali and back. On the way there, we get in late and leave early in the morning, so I will be staying at the hotel in the airport. On the way back we have a little more time, arriving at 10PM, and departing at 10:15am. I see there is an express train from KLIA to downtown. I was wondering if it would be doable to stay downtown with this amount of time?

Hi
Its doable but maybe not feasible. By the time you arrive ,and actually get the train you can count on at least an hour. Then half hour for the train which goes to City Sentral .It'll be after midnight ny the time you get to your hotel .(When we were there a couple of weeks ago the train wasn't running. The train takes 28 minutes, the bus takes an hour. )
I wouldn't do it.

It can be done- however, whats the point?
You will arrive in the city around midnite
then you have to leave again very early next morning.
I think it is not worth it.
Stay over at the airport hotel.

as others, you will arrive around midnight. this is a good time if you want to chill and taste KL's nightlife which can drag you up to 2-3 am.
To go back to airport at this very morning will expose yourself of being squeeze by taxi drivers (the only transport available at that time).
No longer worth to check in assuming you need to be at the airport around 9.00am which one hour travel from the city centre. unless it's common for you to have a short sleep, wake at 8, checkout and find taxi to the airport.
Depend on what type of people you are...for me, I would prefer to stay sleep at the airport. tune hotel is a budget hotel near the LCCT terminal, the rest are quite luxury hotels around the airport.
Cheers
Travel Tips for Kuala Lumpur
Phone System
by Airpunk
Malaysia has a public phone system, but it does not run very well. Many of them are out of order or do not work with prepaid calling cards. I looked up the whole Times Squares shopping mall for a working phone and did not find a single one! Therefore, I would not recommend to rely on Malaysian public phones. If you need to phone back home, better go to one of those calling centres or just buy a prepaid phone card and use it from your hotel.
English Newspapers
by chiabh
Malaysia has 4 English newapapers... The mainstream newpapers are The Star and The New Straits Times... Others include The Sun (which is distributed free) and the afternoon tabloid The Malay Mail...
Local English business magazines include The Malaysian Business and The Edge... and a variety of publications covering all fields such as Her World, Par Golf etc... There are numerous street side stalls selling newspapers and magazines.... The Sun can be obtained free at trains stations, clubs, some hotels and also 7-11 convenient stores... but stock generally run out fast...

These officers usually patrol tourist spots and protect the attractions/monuments as well as the safety of all visitors.

KL Railway Station
by Bjorgvin
Visit the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station. The KL Railway Station, built by the British in 1911, is well worth visiting for its architecture. The Moorish-style structure features spires, minarets, arches, and cupolas and is an excellent example of British colonial architecture. - Jl. Sultan Hishamuddin - Tel. +60 (3) 274-6063
Tin Mining Origins
by l_joo
Some places in Kuala Lumpur until today still preserve its old tin mining looks, tourists need not surprise, its the origin of the city, the way the pioneer of this city lived. They were early peoples came to excavate tin and they lived in simple houses mostly made of wood, some are still village lifestyle and they are actually inside the metropolitan but lived a rural lifestyle. Tourists can pay a visit to their environment of living, though it may look less stylish but they represent the origin of the tin mining city of the Lumpurians year 1857. You can even try to dig the earth to see whether the tin still there.
