Vilu Reef Resort

by Mara_2 about Vilu Reef Resort

We stayed in Vilu Reef Resort 2 weeks in 2003 and it was a really nice resort in all aspects.
We came there mainly because we were looking for a good diving resort and it proved to be very good indeed.
There are three typoligies of bungalows: garden, beach and beach de-luxe. For 3 days, because of an over-booking, we stayed in one of the garden and it was OK, but for the rest of the holiday, we stayed in the de-luxe and it was really de-luxe! It was the best bungalow Ii have stayed in!
The restaurant is open air, with only the roof, but there's no sand on the floor as in other restaurants in the Maldives. Once a week a dinner on the beach is organized and it is very beautiful and romantic. Just be ware of crabs that could mistake your toes for food! There's also a SPA, but we did not tried it. Also a tennis court is available, but we do not play tennis.
The only facility we have used is the diving and it's really good. The oceanic pass is very near and some very good dives with lot of big pelagic fish can be organized. I would not recommend these dives for less experienced divers, as the current can be very strong!

Dive Explorer

by Mara_2

When we were on Vilu Reef, the diving was managed by Dive Explorer.
We have a very nice time diving with them, especialli with Zala and his wife Zainab (they now organize diving cruises in Maldives)!
The dives were well organized and everybody can dive with them, as they decide the dives by the experience of the divers. Therefore if you are not an experienced diver, they will not bring you to dive in the passes as the current can be very strong! The equipment the rent was in very good condition!

A visit to local village

by Mara_2

One of the excursion during stay in Maldives is a visit to the local village. The local villages are islands where only local people live and usually there's no resorts on them.
It is a nice visit, as you can see how they live and you may meet also their children that are so cute! Also you can shop for souvenirs in their local stores where souvenirs cost a lot less then on your resort!
During our stay in Vilu Reef resort we have gone for a visit of a village on the island called Meedoo.

Vilu Reef - Nilandhoo South atoll

"Perfect for honeymoon"

Who wouldn't like to spend al leat one week in paradise? Especially when on honeymoon?

No, it was not mine, but it was several years that I wished to go to Vilu Reef since when I heard about its opening and after I spoke to a person who went there.

So, finally it was my turn also!

"Perfect for divers"

It is also perfect for divers as it is positioned at the northern tip of the Nilandhoo South atoll; it is near the corner passes and along one side the house reef is very near, just a few meters from the bungalows.

"Perfect for peace-lovers"

Even if the island is rather big and has a lot of bungalows, one can still find a desereted piece of beach where to relax in solitude.

""No shoes, no news...""

...sure is true. That's the Maldives motto. I stayed at the Vilu Reef, in the South Niladhe Atoll. About 30 minutes by seaplane.

Nothing prepared me for the first sight of this place. I knew it was going to be pukka, but this was something else. Lush green palm trees, sand beneath my toes as I kicked off those shoes, and greeted with an alcoholic coconut. What more can one want....

""Mine's another vodka, please, Friday.....""

Vilu Reef was one of the smaller islands, in fact you could walk around it in about 10 minutes. We got a real personal touch and got to know the owners and staff very well. It pays to go All Inclusive here, though, which we did. If we'd have had to pay, our bar bill at the end would have been verging on about a grand for a fortnight for two. But we did cane the bar and needed a week of detox after....

Beeeeeautiful. Read further for tips on crabs, pesky fish and coconuts....

I am going to Vilu Reef, Maldives next October for my honeymoon. We are to stay in The Jacuzzi Water Villa, but am unable to find any information or pictures of it. If you have stayed at Vilu Reef, was it enjoyable etc and does you have any photos you could email ?

Re: vilu reef

www.vilureef.com if you haven't already looked, there seems to be a picture of a jacuzzi in a garden under the 'your wish' section ??

If not, do a 'vilu reef' keyword search in the top left hand corner of this website and yu may get some pages of people who have been.

You could also try www.hellomaldives.com and select vilu reef - there are quite a few pictures and some info on the page.

Booked for the 5th December 2004, can anyone give me there views, it seems to look good and as it's our first trip to the Maldives we'd hate to be disappointed... Photos would be great, also what is the marine life like, any chance of seeing dolphins, mantas or whale sharks in Dec?

My e mail is mandytab@msn.com if anyone has any info

Thank you

Hi Mandy,

Don't be afraid to be disappointed, Maldives are the Paradise in Earth.

Yep, definitely one of the paradise's on earth. what it looks like in those promo brochures is what it looks like....when you are there.

i didn't have a problem. I saw reef sharks, barracudas, mantas, groupers, turtles, dolphins etc. there is no lack of marine life.

and you can't ask for a better time than december. of course jan to march is better but still in december the water is clear and warm.

and when i dived....and you must dive.....i saw and even touched a turtle up close, an amazing variety of fishes.

remember bring lots of sun block and mineral water!

VILU REEF RESSORT AND SPA

by Travellads

Hi,

looking to stay at the Vilu Reef resort. Has anyone stayed there recently, would like to have some info on the island, many thanks

We stayed there for 2 weeks at the end of April this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Like most the island is small but there is plenty to do. We went Full Board as we don't drink much alcohol but would recommend AI if you do. We had a beach villa number 145 which I can recommend. Food in the main restsaurant is good and varied but you can pay extra and use the a la carte restaurant if you want. They now have a fresh water pool and new pool bar which are a great addition to the existing facilities. Let me know if you want any more info.

Hi,

many thanks for this, I have been deliberating for ages on which Island to go for and the more I see and read about the Vilu Reef resort the more I think that this will be the one. The garden villas facing inland , what are they like or should we definatley go for the Beach Villas.

Many thanks

Travellads

Go for a beach villa rather than a garden villa which are all in the middle of the island with no sea view - just a view of the back of the beach villas! Beach Villas have direct access to the beach with a small deck in front. From memory there wasn't a great difference in price anyway.
