Average price $81 -151 per day for two people with all meals. Book direct and save big. We went through an agent both times and could have stayed more than one week with the savings if we had booked direct with the hotel.

Restaurant, sundeck with open restaurant, 2 bars, play room, reception, and island shop.
156 airconditioned bungalows situated directly near or on the beach with mini bar and outdoor bath/ shower, White beaches with clear blue waters, and the best diving and snorkeling in the Maldives. The staff could not be more friendly and helpfull. Make you feel like you are just part of the family. We have been to other resorts and alas we will return to Ellaidhoo and never look back.

Ari Beach. South-East tip of...

Ari Beach. South-East tip of Ari Atoll.
Our resort was toward the least expensive because we did not require the top accomodation standard or all inclusive. With the extras totalled it worked out to about 1300 pounds each.

Accom is either standard (room with toilet/shower with short access to beach) or superior (bigger air conditioned rooms with EXTERNAL toilet/shower)We were happy with the standard as it was centrally located and only two minutes from everything. The bigger rooms were further away. When you get there, treat yourself to an Ari Beach Dream.

Both islands we stayed on...

Both islands we stayed on provided basic, but clean accommodation. However, you can pay more and upgrade to a water cottage, which is a chalet on stilts in the water.
I understand that Meerufenfushi may no longer be a resort as the government had this island on its list for decentralisation of settlers from Male (the main island where the airport, and the largest local polulation is).
There are many more resorts to choose from though, from basic to superior, with price ranges to suit most budgets.
Really does depend on the island you choose. Check with your travel agent for any 'special deals'.

Being surrounded by crystal clear, aqua sea on what feels like your very own desert island.

Accomodation will vary not...

Accomodation will vary not only within resorts but also from resort to resort. The water bungalows at Paradise Island are all set on stilts above the ocean and you reach them by way of a boardwalk from the main centre of the island.Incidentally the sea beneath these bungalows on paradise Island is absolutely teeming with the fascinating Cornet Fish
A lot more than on Meeru!

Price is 'on application', so if you're interested - apply!

For a very special experience you can stay at one of Meeru's Honeymoon Villas. These take the Water Bugalow theme one stage further - they are set out in the ocean on stilts above the water. To get to them you can either use the boat provided, or swim or wade (it's not very deep in the lagoon). Actually swimming/wading is essential when you find the boat is already at the other side! (see picture). In addition to their unique location, these villas are twice the size of a standard villa.

On Meeru a water bungalow is 60 dollars per day more than a land villa. It's worth the money if you want that little bit extra exclusivity that it gives you!

The villas on many resorts feature traditional Maldivian open air bathrooms! Now don't worry, everyone's not gonna watch you showering - there's a high wall, and there is something rather nice about taking a shower under the deep blue sky, or even under the moonlight or in the rain (yes, it rains sometimes).

When you stay in the resorts each villa has a room boy who takes care of your villa several times a day, keeping it clean and making up your beds. They delight in making special patterns with the sheets and on special occasions (maybe your birthday), or just if they feel like it, they will do a flower bed. All of the flowers here are gathered from plants on our island and they smell and look superb.

Though the resorts are usually...

Though the resorts are usually classed as a 'hotel' they are usually not what you would expect a hotel to be. Mostly they consist of individual villas scattered around the resort island, discretely placed so as not to ruin the view and to keep in harmony with the islands nature.

We stayed in Water Bungalows on Meeru, these are built partly on land and partly on stilts over the beach, and they have a private sun deck, jetty and shaded veranda, all looking out onto the ocean. It's paradise on earth.
Maldives is not a cheap destination, but Meeru Island Resort is one of the cheapest resorts in Maldives (in fact in all of the travel brochures we looked in it was the cheapest), though modesty prevents me from giving the actual price of the holiday.
For all that it was the cheapest resort, it is still a very very nice resort and we'd go back there again rather than spend even more money at another resort.

I have only been to the Banyan...

I have only been to the Banyan Tree in Vabbinfaru.

This is a five star hotel. The most unique thing is that the whole Island, though small, is occupied by this hotel, and hotel residents can walk round the Island on its beautiful beaches, or kayak in the shallow waters surrounding the Island. The seashore is neatly prepared such that you can even order a sunset dinner under the shelter by the seaside.

Meeru Island Resort -...

Meeru Island Resort - Meerufenfushi - North Atoll - Maldives
Kuoni offers good packages. I chose HB because I don't drink much and eat even less so it wouldn't be cost effective for me to go All Inclusive. You can eat lunch for $10 - $12 and even with another drink in the evening it won't go over $20 extra a day.

The island is idillic. Very simple and traditional constructions both for the reception buiding and restaurants. I went to visit Paradise Island, which is a five star resort but I still prefer Meeru. It has much more character. The whole island is cleaned daily by the staff, all the leaves that fall from the trees are removed and also the algae from the beach. Excellent!

Accommodation is limited to 1...

Accommodation is limited to 1 or 2 hotels in the capital, and generally, 1 resort on each island accessible to foreigners only. Many islands are off limits to visitors and are for Maldivians only.
There's usually one resort per island; they were built at different time and offer differing levels of comfort and service so it's hard to compare prices.

Most look like versions of Club Med. The hotel in Male is pretty plain and without diversions except for a small bar in an outside courtyard.

Ellaidhoo

Out of the 1200 islands, 100 hosts some resorts run by tour operator such as HotelPlan, KuoniGastaldi & so on ... this is the only accomodation available at the Maldives (apart private flats of course).

Ellaidhoo is presently run by Kuoni & we got a nice bungalow with the typical open air toilet (in the pic), air conditioning, fan, room phone and a very useful small patio in front of the beach.
It was a cheap last-minute and we went for a 1200 Euros halfboard for 2 weeks.

Ellaidhoo - room sharing :-)

A friend u could share the bungalow with :-).
Geckos are not dangerous of course and they r quite funny while running; if you hear some noise this could be a gecko singin' a song to the beloved one !!

Geckos fighting against big bugs !!!!!

Ellaidhoo - inner bungalows

A view of the internal bungalows ... of course it's better sitting in fornt of the sea, but if you wanna save some bucks, then choose this kind of accomodation.
