Honeymoon Villa at Meeru
by wto about Meeru
The 2 HoneyMoon Villas at Meeru are set away from the island. You can get to these by boat, or swim across, the water is not deep. They are set on the East Side of the Island. If you really want to get away from it all, one of these is for you.
Standard Villa at Meeru
by wto about Meeru
Standard Villas at Meeru are in blocks. Inside, the villas are furnished similar to the Land Villas, but obviously do not have the detatched feel that the LV's have. Set between Land Villas. Some on each side of the Island.
Land Villa at Meeru
by wto about Meeru
Pentagonal Land Villa at Meeru. These were on the East side of the Island, numbered in the 400's. Entrance door in centre and outside deck seating area higher off the ground that LV's. Similar/Same facilities as Land Villas and set further back from the beach.
Land VIlla, Bathroom at Meeru
by wto about Meeru
The outside view of the "outside" bathroom in the Land VIlla. Your modesty is retained with the high wall! The bathroom is accessed via a door at the (inside) rear of the villa. Showering "outside" is very refreshing, with non of that steam filled room of home.
Land Villa at Meeru
by wto about Meeru
Land VIllas at Meeru are located on both sides of the Island. There are 2 types. This is the one we stayed in, a rectangular type. People have their differing views as to which side of the Island is best. East sees the sunrise, West the sunset. We were allocated 247 on the East side and were pleased with the location. In front of us was a break in the tree line, giving us a beach/ocean view. Each Land VIlla is detached with a raised and covered deck area. They are furnished outside with chairs and loungers. The covered deck gives pleasant relief from the Sun.

A resort of two halves
by Flem2002 about Meeru Island Resort
Meeru Island Resort is one of the larger tourist islands, being about a mile long and a few hundred metres wide. Having said that, it's not large in an overcrowded way, and there are plenty of places to go where you feel you are Robinson Crusoe!
Reading my slightly out of date guide book, it sounds as though Meeru has developed a lot over the last few years, and there was further works going on whilst we were there in summer 2006 - more water villas were being built over the sea, and maybe spoiling the view for others? It certainly feels like Meeru is a divided resort - land villas for the cheaper end of the market, who all dine in one restaurant, and the Meeru "Village" (consisting of the water villas and a spa) whose residents dine in another restaurant. Although the food is the same in both restaurants, never the twain shall meet.
The staff are very professional and friendly, there are plenty of diving opportunities courtesy of the multi lingual dive school, the food is plentiful and varied (strong Indian influence, with plenty of curries in the evening, but also pastas, meats, salads and vegetables to suit all palates). The pool is a decent size and never over crowded, and it's fairly child free (like much of the maldives I suspect).

Meeru Island Resort - Meerufenfushi - North Atoll - Maldives
Kuoni offers good packages. I chose HB because I don't drink much and eat even less so it wouldn't be cost effective for me to go All Inclusive. You can eat lunch for $10 - $12 and even with another drink in the evening it won't go over $20 extra a day. The island is idillic. Very simple and traditional constructions both for the reception buiding and restaurants. I went to visit Paradise Island, which is a five star resort but I still prefer Meeru. It has much more character. The whole island is cleaned daily by the staff, all the leaves that fall from the trees are removed and also the algae from the beach. Excellent!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Maldives, a string of sandy islands in the Indian Ocean.
I recently found this great new website that gives information on all aspects of the Maldives, including a run down on all of the resort islands there.

"Meeru Island Resort"
Meeru is one of the larger Maldivian resort islands in the North Male Atoll. It has two hundred and twenty or so rooms ranging from the standard rooms to jacuzzi villas, water bungalows and at the top end, luxurious honeymoon villas.
We stayed on Meeru from 30th November to 5th December 2003.
Our first night was spent in one of the islands luxurious honeymoon villas - a free upgrade that we were presented with when we first arrived on the island. Pure, unadulterated romance!
For the remainder of our stay we lodged in one of the water bungalows that line part of the eastern side of the island.
Take a look at the Meeru Travelogue for more details of our stay in paradise.
