Resourceful Backpacker's
UB Guesthouse were a fantastic, friendly & well organised backpackers. They regularly ran day trips to the nearby Terelj National Park (popular for those on the infamous TransSiberian train who have only have a few days), and organised longer trips to the Gobi and Lakes in the 'midwest' of Mongolia. The trip to White Lake they organised for four of us was perfectly-timed, and the driver just brilliant! They also helped me get a ticket for the train back to Beijing (no mean feat I assure you). Services are simple, but more than adequate for backpackers.
Unique Quality: The hosts Kim and Bobby are fantastic resources in a city where language barriers can sometimes make getting from A to B a bit tricky. And they pick you up from the train station which is a great help.

UB's 'all in one' hostal
Korean Kim runs a ship shape hostel right in the middle of town. The place is very clean and has a great atmosphere amongst the many travellers who visit. For $US 4.00 per dorm bed, it's very hard to beat. Double rooms are also available.
Kim can set you up on any tour (generic or personalised) for visiting his adopted country. He and his wife have all the answers to any possible questions you may have about what to see, and how to get there, as they are very experienced in catering to backpackers needs.
Unique Quality: The hostel offers tours all over Mongolia and the owners have a wealth of information that they are more than happy to pass on.
There is a free breakfast and the selection of DVD's available to watch (for free) is amazing.

Clean and Friendly Accomodation
Stayed there for (only) 2 nights, but I can't complain about anything. It's definitely recommendable.
