Strolling - Open square bazaar
by SLLiew
There many unique Nepali brassware, masks, musical flutes, Tibetan small drums, beads, etc that laid on the floor like a flea market. Interesting to just stroll around in late afternoon or evening and check out any souvenir or bargains to decorate back home.
Cremation of Bodies at Pashupatinath, Kathmandu.
by goutammitra
In Hindu custom cremation of body is through burning only. It is considered holi and fortunate to be burned before the feet of Lord Shiva. In India or in Nepal burning of bodies are done on the banks of the river as it is believed that the soul reaches to God through the river. In Nepal, Hinduism is followed as in its original or ancient form. Before burning of the body the relatives dips his/her feet in the river , in belief that the soul will go to the Lord directly.
The Hindus consider it fortunate to be burned before Lord Shiva. In India the custom is changing, all the rites are observed as per Hindu custom then the body is burned in a Crematorium, to conserve Firewood and to avoid air pollution.
Shiny stones
by ozalp about Jewelers in Yak and Yeti Hotel
As a 5 starred hotel, Yak and Yeti has a corridor full of jewelers. Some of them were Muslim and they understood that we were from Turkey (it was a religious holiday season). They offered us special prices but even a special price was over my budget here. They had so many amazing gemstones that I’ve never seen before. There is no harm in looking, but beware of the jewelers. They are good at catching people. They have an amazing collection of precious stones. Too much
Hire car with driver
by PierreZA
For longer trips, out of the city, a travel agent could organise a car and driver for you. Do try more than one agency to get the best deal. Also be clear as to what is included and what not before payment.
We used this mode of transport for a trip from Kathmandu, to Nagarkot, then to Bakthapur before returning to Kathmandu.
Great thai food
by bluedook about Yin Yang
In the middle of Thamel. Serves really good Thai food. Very cheap by western standards but expensive for Thamel Red or green curry. Nice flavour followed by the whack of the chillis. Made to order in terms of chilli content.
