    A Worth Recommending Hotel

    by

In the noises of Thamel area, you'd find Coutyard Hotel very quiet, thanks to it's location and a big yard in the front.

We came across this hotel at the airport. Upon arrival, we went to the desk to hire a taxi. Then they introduced this hotel to us after consulting what we'd like. We agreed to have a look at it, with the agreement that if we took it, the taxi from the airport is free, if not, they'd deliver us any other hotels with a charge.

After visiting the rooms and negotiating the rates, we were happy to take it. It's about US$35/night for a very spacious room of three beds.

The yard is very big. There's a little pond in it. It would be perfect if they made a swimming pool out of it.

Unique Quality: Quietness, Spacious, traditional style building

More about Hotel Courtyard

Wonderful, central and calm

by TripAdvisor Member RMD39

What can i say - very centrally placed, easy to get to, excellent large nepalese/western style rooms, very peaceful, great chill out bar/restaurant nearby (Comfort Zone), great welcome by this family run hotel. I wouldn't stay anywhere else now. We were two singles on a Rally but there were Everest Teams, Buyers and Trekkers using this traditional style hotel as their base. Food and drink was good and flowing and the owners couldn't do enough to try to help us or save us money in Nepal. Excellent place, excellent people, with a real taste of Kathmandu. Perfection

Dear fellow travellers,

My name is Nikhil Joshi, I am a medical school student from Canada. I have had the utmost pleasure to stay at the Hotel Courtyard in Kathmandu for about 3 weeks. My plan to travel around India and Nepal was cut short as soon as I arrived on the grounds of the hotel; I had finally found the place I have been searching for in my travels. I have been fortunate enough to travel across Western and Eastern Europe, Western Africa, as well as Australia and much of the United States and Canada. I can say conclusively that I have experienced no place like the Hotel Courtyard. The first things to draw you in are the incredible gardens, and Newari architecture and craftsmanship. The courtyard is full of comfortable tables, couches and chairs where I have spent countless days simply looking, reading, writing, and having an excellent glass of Scotch. That would perhaps be enough, but is overshadowed by the excellent décor and feel of the rooms, which rivals hotels of far greater cost in other areas of the world. To make it even better, the owners, Pujan and Michelle, are people of the highest calibre; fun, thoughtful, and caring of their guests like they would close friends. I have been embarrassed by their generosity, time and time again; they have taken it on themselves to go the extra mile for their guests, for me that included arranging a religious ritual (a yajna), taking myself and friend out on the town several times, and always making sure ones’ glass is never empty. Their poignant conversation is heightened by the presence of their library where the dulcet tones of classical music, Miles Davis’, and the works of such writers as Paolo Cohelo, and Michel Hollebecq combine to provide a truly wonderful experience.

The Hotel Courtyard has a unique feel and vibe, and finds a way to only admit those travelers whose presence would be welcome for the hotel itself. It is a boutique hotel, with the services and care involved with a five star, and the elegant charm that none others can create but many imitate. As one can tell I am unabashedly a fan, and will return again and again. I wish you best luck on your travels, and hope you find your way there.

Excellent

As we pretty much used the Hotel Courtyard as our 'crash pad' to decompose upon our long trip from the USA, we did not get to appreciate some of the culinary, decorative and landscaping plusses of the hotel that others mentioned.

We had a terrific room- large, cool, high ceilings, working and clean utlities. And we were well-situated by the local Chabad House where we spent most of our discretionary time over our 2 day stay.

Michelle and Pujan were gracious hosts and they go out of their way to sweat the details. I arrived with a pounding headache (and I'm not a soft touch either!) and while I could have ventured out for some medicine on my own, Michelle encouraged me to unpack and take a rest and she'd arrange getting the medicine.
It was an unnecesarry but greatly appreciated gesture on her part......and it was memorable!

The room service was always prompt and the breakfast food was served hot and fresh.

It is hard to believe that the serenity of this hotel and the hustle and bustle of Thamel are separated by a mere 30 yard path, but this hotel inded is worth the hype it has received here on TripAdvisor.

Apparently, both Michelle and Pujan were schooled by companies (I think Nordstrom) that emphasize customer service, and it showed throughout our stay!

Nicest place in Thamel!

by TripAdvisor Member redivan666

What to say about this nice hotel? Ok, it is clean, warm, friendly...

Let´s star from the beginning. Michelle is the perfect manager, we did everything by email directly with her. Had a lot of helpful recommendations for restaurants and also to go around thamel and always with a kind smile.
Hugs from Madrid, Michelle!!!

The hotel itself is an old traditional newar style in front but once you enter the place and the room that is even better. We loved the yard and the library to stay with a cup of nepali milk tea.

The rooms were really nice and the bed was really really comfortable! May be the pillows were a bit thin for me but anyhow, it is only my opinion, my girl found them comfy too.
Nice bathroom and deco also.

The location is one of the strongest points for the courtyard. It is in the middle of Thamel but apart enough to stay in calm away from noises. Really close to everything, nice bars, nice restaurants and also the shopping.

The staff was also helpful and kind all the time.
And they are improving some more surprises for the next time!

We were like home at the courtyard!

Splendid

I have recently stayed here and I could not think of a negative thing to say about this experience. I paid $30 a night for a perfect hotel. I loved this place. The owners made you feel like you were a guest in their home. The staff were so polite from the reservations personnel to the room cleaners. You would go far and wide and not meet this standard of service and hospitality. My $30 was in the off season but at double that it is a real deal.
My room was very large and comfortable with a great bed and bathroom. The owners were exceptionally welcoming and invited all the guests to dinner with them in a restaurant in town that you would not have found if you did not know about it. And a great restaurant it was too.
It is a really marvellous place to meet people whatever your reason for being here. It is the place people with an interest in other people come to.
As previous reviewers have also pointed out (and why it is No. 1 on Trip Advisor) book early.
I was a solo traveller and wanted to get around the Katmandu Valley and hired Salik and his car for two days to get around outside of the town and see the wonderful sights there are.
Booked through the hotel it was like everything else about this place, Absolutely splendid.

You Won't Want To Leave

I spent a long weekend at the Hotel Courtyard and truly felt like I was at home. Michelle and Pujan are the real stars of this hotel, making sure that everyone was comfortable and that everything (e.g., tours, etc) are taken cared of. Most importantly, the other guests are awesome too and everyone got along really, really well.

I plan to be back at the Hotel Courtyard hopefully soon and plan to stay at least two weks!

Best place to stay in Nepal

by TripAdvisor Member MauLondon

These guys not only make you feel like home, they also make you feel as if you were travelling with your lifetime mates.
Michelle and Pujan do everything in their power to make sure you have the best experience in Nepal. From inviting you to have a true Nepalese dinner to booking tours and transportation for the rest of your trip. You just ought to arrive to Courtyard and let them do their thing.
Bedrooms are very clean and huge. Some of them have been remodeled to a very high standard and the rest are going that way.
If you are planning to stay only a few days in Kathmandu and you stay in Courtyard I can assure you that you'll be wanting to stay there for weeks or months.

It's all true!

by TripAdvisor Member Travelwarrier

The moment I arrived at the Courtyard I knew I made the right choice. Other writers have said it all and more eloquently than I probably could. I have stayed at every kind of hotel in 20+ countries and I have worked in the industry for many years so I can honestly say this is one of the few hotels that capture the essence of what good old fashioned hospitality is all about thanks to Michelle and Pujon and their dedicated staff. Simply put ... they get it! The experience and the memories were priceless.

A home away from home

by TripAdvisor Member auroraforever

Picking a hotel off reviews on a website doesn't always work, but in the case of the Hotel Courtyard, the previous Trip Advisor reviewers got it exactly right. This is THE place to stay in Kathmandu.

The location is perfect, right in the heart of Themal - steps from great restaurants and shops, and yet when you turn the corner into the courtyard of the hotel you feel like you've left the craziness of the main tourist drag behind.

The rooms are beautiful, clean and spacious. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. Every request is met quickly and always with a smile.

The clientele of the hotel is a great mix from all parts of the world, yet they all seem to have in common a friendliness, and an appreciation for the country and the adventure of being in Kathmandu.

The owners have a magical way of making all of their guests feel like long lost friends rather than customers, I've never enjoyed a hotel more - I left yesterday and am already planning my next visit.
