Walking in the streets, shrines

Walking in the streets of Kathmandu you can see shrines with dieties. In Nepal there are many shrines with Ganesh, easily recognised by his elephant head.
Ganesh is the god of prosperity and wisdom. Ganesh parents are Shiva and Parvati. Ganesh obtained his elephant head by his father's temper, who topped his head, coming home after a long absence. Streets of Kathmandu

One thing you will notice about Kathmandu is that there are not many tall buildings, and the streets are generally crowded, dusty but lively. The city seems to be still in a state of catching up with the modern time, and this is perhaps one of the charms of Kathmandu.
Bhaktapur woodwork

Exquisite wood carving has been a speciality of Newar artisans. Around Durbur square in Bhaktapur, you can find street vendors selling what looks like pieces of woodworks from the architectures. Small figurines, reliefs etc are found.
Bodhnath - Swayambhunath - Thamel
by josephescu
I arrived in Swayambhunath directly from Bodhnath stupa on the other side of Kathmandu, on a cab that was 220 rupees after a little bargaining. It was rush hour however, and it took 40 minutes to negotiate our way through the hectic traffic.
Do not try to get a rickshaw from Kathmandu to Swayambhunath, as most of the journey is uphill and you’ll either get off after the first hill or you’ll end up cycling yourself with the rickshaw man in the back.
As I stayed at the temple long after sunset, there were no cabs waiting for tourists to get them back to Thamel. However, the walk downhill to Durbar square was less than 30 minutes, and I got the chance to wander some backstreets off the old town while on curfew, which was quite an experience..
Bakery and Breakfast in Thamel
by AlisonMac about Weizen bakery and Pumpernickel Bakery
Amazing way to start the day, especially if you have some major trekking ahead. Fantastic, relaxed atmosphere, great fresh food and great service.
Weizen also has free Wi Fi access. Pumpernickel has the best cinnamon & honey wholemeal porridge for breakfast. They also have a huge selection of fresh baked breads and rolls, as well as fresh dairy such as yak and goats cheese/yoghurts.
Weizen - be there for 7.30am and get the Apple Struedel fresh from the oven. Best and biggest Apple streudel I have ever eaten and all for R50.00 !!!
