Tibet Guest House

.. . It is a big place, it is both a hotel and a guest house, i.e. they operate several categroies and subdivisions of the place. The price range 8-60 USD also indicates the variety you can get here, and it's a good place where you can benefit from hotel services albeit paying rock bottom priice for a bed. However, I would not go for the lowest category rooms.
I never stayed here, but assisted people staying here and ate at the restaurant, tested the bar thoroughly, saw the rooms, made use of front desk services etc. Tibetan-run places always have something going for them, so this is a safe bet. Staff seem to be Manangis, Thakalis, Gurungs and with Tibetans owners. If you are not interested in Thamel and it's mess and traffic problems, similar category hotels can be found in the Lazimpat and Pulchowk areas.

Unique Quality: An old stayer, has atmosphere and many repeat customers.
Quiet in noisy Thamel, has its own compound yet is extremely well located to get the most out of Thamel.
Good place to enjoy before and after a trek, but for business purposes you will have to battle Thamel traffic to get "into the open".
if you don't like the Thamel area, but like this hotel, another good bet is Tibet Hotel in Lazimpat.

Directions: Tibet Guest House is in the southern part of Thamel toward Chhetrapati and into a compound to the right as you walk down.

Definitely the most beautifull place to spend the nights once you are in Kathmandu.
A family coming from Tibet is running the Guesthouse, and the athmosphere that they were able to developped in this pretty new guesthouse is something amazing.
Looking at it from outside, it doesn’t say anything, but once you take your first step inside it, the smile of the recepetionist and the “Namastè” will ring at you with another sound! Believe me!
I was coming from India, and I was completely fullfilled of those stuff, but their smile, and their way to speak to the guests change my opinion!
The Guesthouse has a very beautifull big double rooms, with occidental bathroom plus shower with hot water 24/7 >>(unbelievable!), with a small kitchen inside and a small living room (in some of them).
Moreover, the Guesthouse is always ready to help you reguaridng whatever. For exaqmple I organize with them the day excursion around all the sites in Kathmandu + Kathmandu valley, and I was absolutely satisfacted.
They has also an international phonecall location, an itnernet point, a bar, a restaurant and an exchange counter.
I got sick during my stay @ Kathamndu and they were so helpfull, getting in and out of my room simply to check how was I feeling, bring me new water and assisting me! They were excellent!
About the cost, for all that menthioned....USD 8 the double! (off course, they asked me for 12Usd, but then, I beg for 8, and we closed!).
That’s nothing, also considering that the GH is located in the center of Thamel area, and they offer you a pick up/drop off to airport free!
They are absolutely so nice and I warmly suggest you to overnoight by them, you won’t regret it!
The guest are various, from young packpacker from Japan, to families of Pakistan...Is also beautifull being in the middle of such huge quantity of culture!!!!
