I only had lunch at the Fish Tail Lodge so I can't comment on the overnight accommodation, but the lunch was good and it looked like a nice place to stay. If you're backpacking or trekking, though, there are cheaper places to stay in the area.
This place is great. It has a beautiful location and the food is good. I visited in the Spring and the views were terrible due to disgusting fog. However, I was told that in September/October, the views are fantastic. The hotel is a little old and can use some updating, but is still really nice for Nepal.
At request, the hotel will call for massage services. The cost was $20 for an hour. However, it is done on your hotel bed, so it is a little awkward.
We had a room that opened up to a garden terrace with beautiful views of the lake and Sangarkot Hill and the surrounding hills. This was way back in the 1980s when the hotel was much newer and was still the premier hotel for dignitaries.
The room was stylishly appointed with a bay window and beamed ceiling with lots of wood making it feel cosy and warm. Plus points for the room.
Breakfast was served in a restaurant with full glass windows looking out to the lake (Fewa Tal). The spread was of acceptable standard.
We have seen other hotels in Pokhara and I strongly feel that Fish Tail Lodge is the best and only one that is of international standard at that time.
To get to the hotel, you will be transported on a raft - it seems that is the only way to get there. We enjoyed the short raft ride each time we had to get to public transportation.
There is a common fireplace for guests to mingle and warm up during the cold nights.
We did not stay here, but went there for our Lunch and hotel inspection. This hotel are very famous in 80's and the only deluxe hotel in Pokhara before Shangrilla and Blue Bird. The rooms is very nice and they have chalet with awesome view of the lake also mountains.
I really like their chalet, the view is superb, plus they had hammock at the garden. Love it!!
The Fish Tail Lodge Hotel, Pokhara is in the peninsular of Fewa Lake and a hilside. Set in lush gardens, the hotel consists of unique round cottages offering spectacular views of the Annapurna range and the Fish Tail Mountain. This charming property provides attentive service and comfortable rooms with modern facilities. Activities available include day hiking, pony riding and bird watching. Guests are received and transported to the Lodge on its shuttle-floats or boats.
All profits generated by Fish Tail Lodge are donated to the Princess Jayanti Memorial Trust. The Trust provides free cardiac care to underprivileged Nepalese people and conducts various programmes to raise public awareness regarding the causes of heart diseases in Nepal.
This is where we stayed in Pokhara. It is a place to relax. I even thought about not to leave its garden. Fishtail Lodge is located on an island in Phewa Lake. A raft comes and goes between the island and the main land constantly. It is tied to both shores. A man pulls the rope and the raft moves between the piers. Also there are several boats to serve. When big groups with many luggages come, boats are used for recent customers. The reception and restaurant building can be reached by some steps from the pier on the island. The rooms are behind the plants covering whole area when reception is behind you. There is a pool and a souvenir shop here. Since it was the hottest place during our trip, a pool could be useful. Yet, we preferred wandering around instead of swimming. Rooms are small cottages hidden in the garden, and the garden has hundreds of different flowers. There was a banana tree near our room. All rooms have a small special garden in front. The bathroom was small but practical. Room was comfortable. We had a dinner and a breakfast here. I don’t remember any of them was above average. The staffs were more than helpful here. They carry your luggage to your room but they don’t leave you before have some tips.
