Paragliding
by illumina
Pokhara and particularly Sarangkot are hugely popular destinations for paragliding, and indeed while we were there (Feb 2009) they were having an international paragliding competition! Great fun to watch them come down from the mountains, circle the lake and then land in the fields between the hotel and the lake. There was a big stage set up, and music playing - a mini festival!
Sadly due to illness I didn't have a go at it myself - next time! There are plenty of places in Lakeside offering tandem paraglides - a good way to see the sunrise at Sarangkot I'm sure!
Great pastries!
by illumina about German Bakery
This little bakery is a good place to stop for breakfast, particularly if you're heading off to climb up to the World Peace Pagoda. They do really nice pastries, although later in the day they might be a bit stale. There are three branches in Lakeside, so it shouldn't be hard to find one, and there's another branch on Damside too. We stopped at the one in front of the Boomerang restaurant, just north of the Royal Palace (I seem to remember it being near a tree shrine).
Rice Terraces
by herzog63
The work that has gone into making the terraces is amazing! The area is steep mountains so for these people to be able to grow crops they are build and maintain the terreaces. It can be a dangerous area during the rainy season as soom of these seem to collapse every year!
Pokhara City
by PierreZA
The tourist area of Pokhara is mostly around the Lakeside and Damside areas. It is worth exploring Pokhara City, where you will get a different idea of the city. There are many shops, restaurants etc. Here you will find areas like Mahendra Pul, which is the main shopping area for the locals.
You also get different views of the beautiful mountains, which creates the amazing backdrop of this city.
