Hotel White Palace by babar_1 The White Palace hotel is infact the Palace of former ruler (wali) of Swat, but now it is converted to a hotel. This magnificent palace surrounded by mountains of Murghzar valley is made of white marbles and a beautiful stream flows nearby. There are some handicrafts shops nearby and you can buy local specialiteis (remember to bargain). Just outside the hotel there is a village up in the mountain and you can go for trekking (but take local guide with you)

Cafe De Phoons by NukeDoc All along the major roads you can find these small stalls selling everything conceivably required (or even not required) by a traveller. Ice cold drinks, milk shakes, potato chips, hot cup of tea, even battery cells, camera films and condoms. Usually the prices depend on what car you are driving and may vary more than a 1000%. The prices of things generally in pakistan depend on one general principal - "You show me the face I tell you the price". Beware of eating anything there - be prepared for severe diarrhoe Theme: OtherPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than average

Bathroom by AndreSTGT Everyone flying with PIA (Please Inform Allah)is likely to have a day layover in Karachi, and chances are you will be put into this hotel. Isn't that bathroom pic just lovely? But don't worry, the brownish spots are not what you would guess, just flaking color, still not a very nice sight. Now don't get me wrong the room is actually quite alright and PIA is a very generous airline, you get 6 meals on the way from Frankfurt to Bangkok and 3 meals in Karachi, so don't be put off. I'd fly with them anytime. Theme: Hotel

Hotels in Pakistan come in every cost and comfort level ranging from travellers inns with rope beds that cost a few dollars to five stars. If a hotel offers hot showers then you should check the situation before accepting a room. Some showers have only a trickle of hot water while others offer buckets full of luke warm water. Check out is usually late (around 12pm) but sometimes hotels allow you to check out 24 hours which is great if you have a late bus. Please note that some places are not too keen on taking in foreigners and I ve been turned away numerous times in Islamabad and Pindi. They dont have an excuse other than they just want you to go away.
They can be dirt cheap and you can usually find a good cheapie in the heart of the action near the bazaars. Theme: HotelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveDirections: Ask the tourism offices or the locals at 3 to 5 stars (most speak English).

Madyan, Swat Valley by AndreSTGT This guesthouse is hidden in the upper part of the village of Madyan. It has a beautiful terrace which offers views over the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. The atmosphere is extremely relaxed and the rooms are OK (you get a warm blanket, which is very useful). 150 Rupees for a double!
Great views, complimentary tea. The owner can tell you very interesting stories about the time when this place was a hippie enclave. Theme: Pension/GuesthousePrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Madyan, Swat Valley

The Pakistan Youth Hostels Association with headquarters in Islamabad (051 28266899) runs a number of hostels in Pakistan that have segregrated dorms or gardens where you can pitch a tent. Guest may have to help out with cooking or the cleaning but that is part of the fun. Some of them only allow travellers to stay a maximum of 3 days during busy times.
Great way to meet travellers and probably the cheapest option in town. Most having cooking facilities making this a good place to stay. Theme: HostelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensivePhone: 051 28266899
