Tourist Garden Guest House: Mastuj : Tourist Garden Guest House

by yuet29

I arrived at Mastuj at around 1030pm, looking for somewhere to sleep. Someone told me to stay at Tourist Garden GH but by the time I arrived, the whole town was slept and no one know where is the location of the GH. No one on the street and I was accompanied by a Mastuj guy and the land cruiser driver.

We went to the only hotel in town but they dont accept foreigner. The guy that carried my backpack (I want it back but he insisted to help) wanted me to go back home with him.
'You can stay at my home.' he said.
I tried to ask if there is any other female staying in his house but due to limited urdu and english that we both can understand, I dont have a clue.
'Come, you stay at my home!' he insisted.
'No! You male, me female, married, muslim, cannot stay at your home!' I insisted. I was prepared to knocked on any big houses in Mastuj and ask for help, I dont believe that no one in the town know about the guest house. And then we cameover to a general store running by Afghan. And of course, they knew about the Tourist Garden Inn.

By the time I reached the GH, it was about 11pm. The door was closed and everybody slept. We knocked on the door hard. 10 minutes later an old man open the door unhappily and scolded the locals with me. I begged sorry for arriving late. Upon getting back my backpack, the local guy asked for money (:S I never asked him to carry my bag!)

I went in the GH, it seems to be a good and big house, but the day is too dark I cant make further comment. The old man said to me that it is too late, no food and drink. I said I just need a bed. The old man said the bus to Gilgit depart at 6am tomorrow morning and he will knocked on my door at 5am. I said okie.

The next morning when I get ready to go, the old man open the gate of his house and turned to face me, he put his hand on my chest and take back, pointed the way out. I was a bit shocked and unable to respond on time. I was molested. Luckily I have a day pack at my front which covered most of the front part.

There is a general store just opposite the bus station, that owner is a Pakistani who worked in Malaysia for 8 years and can speak good Malay. I met him that morning and he said if he knew I am a Malaysian, he can be a sponsor for me at the hotel, so that they can accept me there. But it was too late by then.

The rating is for the quality of accommodation, not for the experience, I will post the similar entry in the danger and annoyances part again.

The room is 150Rp per night, usually full board for a higher price but since I arrived late and leave early, no full board needed.

New Tourist Cottage: Gilgit : New Tourist Cottage

by yuet29

I must admit I like New Tourist Cottage than Madina Hotel in Gilgit. After sooo many times returned to Madina Hotel in Gilgit, one day I decided I shall check out New Tourist Cottage which has equally good reputation.

The place is clean, dormitory bed 120Rp for a night, internet access 40Rp for an hour, both cheaper than Madina Hotel. The only downside is it is a bit off-town. So of course, it is much quite, and there is a small garden which you can sit and relax..

One thing I prefer here is, there is only 1 staff, unlike Madina, so many volunteer staffs look for foreign woman to get marry to, can be a bit annoying.

Relax atmosphere. No restaurant, but there is kitchen which you can cook yourself, and a fridge to keep your food.

Haider Inn: Karimabad: Haider Inn

by yuet29

Dormitory for 100Rp. The first hotel you see if you alight at zero point, Karimabad. They had a good restaurant attached earlier on but it is going to close tomorrow (14/9) dur to no good business. If you stay for long time, you can bargain a room for a dormitory price.

The hot water is heated up separately in a tank and you need to mix them in the bucket. Not so clean but it is a budget place and a good place to meet people.

Tourist Cottage run by a kind man named Musa, everyone met him will agree on this. There are only few rooms and no dormitory available. Musa cooks good japanese food but it takes long time to prepare the food if there are a lot of customers.

Batura Inn: Passu: Batura Inn

by yuet29

I did not stay in this inn, it is somewhere between Passu Inn and Passu Peak Inn. It was closed when I was there because no guest at that moment.

Passu Inn: Passu: Passu Inn

by yuet29

Passu Inn located just opposite the Passu village. No dorm available. A single room costs 200Rp, dirty room. A double dirty room costs 300Rp and a double clean room costs 400Rp.

The owner is an unfriendly old man. He showed me the 1st room , I think it is too dirty and asked if I can see another room. He said: 'every rooms is the same' and sat down in the garden by himself. It was too rude so I left.

A good thing is the attached restaurant has an okie choices of dishes, not came in a set like Passu Peak Inn.

They have a nice garden with fruit trees.

Passu Peak Inn: Passu: Passu Peak Inn

by yuet29

A very clean hotel with 100Rp dormitory. The down side is it is too far from the Passu village, around 15-20 minutes walk so it is not convenient to get yourself biscuits. And the owner, an old army expected you to eat in the GH, which can be too expensive. There are not much choices for dinner, if you ordered dinner, it is 200Rp per set (enough for you to sleep for 2 nights in the dorm), usually chappati, dhal and a vegetable dish. No meat.

It is in front of the great view of the Cathedral.
