Fabulous 5 star hotel! Large room with regional hardwood furniture, great wall pictures and carpeting. Clean bathroom with top quality English toiletries. Shower and bathtub in the bath! Excellent room service - I swear they lived next door!
Staff did everything possible to ensure a wonderful stay (so much one day we had to ask for them to leave us alone!). Excellent lighting schemes in the room.
Morrocan restaurant (stick to the couscous) and probably the ONLY decent American burger in Isloo! (called the Gourmet Burger.)
Outside lunch was fabulous - great breakfasts and buffets as well. Work out room great and business center accessible and lowcost.
Daily fruit and nut basket. Fresh baked goods, sweets and drinks available all the time in lobby.

I lived at this hotel for four months in 2002; I have returned and spend a few nights again in 2003 & 2004. This hotel is amazingly elegant with the most educated and professional staff in the country. It is the hotel of choice for all major embassies and government officials from all countries when visiting Islamabad. If you are looking for luxury and safety this is the ideal hotel.
Note: The comment about sunbathing topless made by another member is not all together true. You may get away with it once, but it is inappropriate culturally and will lead to problems.
The architecture of this hotel is beautiful and amazing. The facilities are top of the line. I would rather stay at this hotel than any other I have stayed or lived in world wide to include the Paris Hilton.
Stayed at the Serena for a night. Me and my friend decided to blow the rest of our money on a luxury night. It's a beautiful hotel. Everything is gorgeous there. The lobby with the traditional live music, the garden with running water with fish, the pool. Everything is perfect. The only thing that irritated me was the arrogant way the receptionist behaved. Other then that we didn't have much contact with the staff. The breakfast buffet was the best I have ever had. Food from every corner of the world was available and it tasted amazing. If you go for a junior suite you get a room on a higher floor. We had a fantastic room with a 32" flat screen, broadband, a big comfy bed, sitting arrangement. The room was on an executive floor so there were a relaxation room with a 42" flat screen, free coffee, tea, snacks and juice. Reserved for the floor only (every executive floor has once). The guy working there was a very polite man.
We got a nice view of the surrounding hills. They were working on expansion when we were there so that ruined the view a bit. It's very expensive but compared to other so-called 5* hotels the Serena is far superior in quality. I am not giving the hotel a "Great Experience" because it's too expensive and the receptionist was a but off-putting.
