Hotel Lenox: Naran's Best Hotel

I made a trip to Naran from June 10, 2011 to June 12, 2011 and stayed at Hotel Lenox. This was my first trip to Naran and I had been planning/getting information from all sources possible. Selection of the Hotel was my top priority as i thought one needs to have excellent boarding facilities while on excursion.

Camps near Lahore Hotel: Local Campsite

Our stay at Naran was pretty long. After returning from Fairy Meadows we decided to stay at Naran for 4-5 days just to relax and enjoy the soothing natural environment. As our interest always is not at all towards luxury, we decided to look for a camp that fits us all (6-7 guys).

We came across some camps near the Lahore hotel. A guy working at the hotel had these camps set up himself to earn extra. These sort of camps could be found all over Naran. The camp that we rented had 3 jumbo mattress with blankets and pillows. It was big enough to fit 10-12 people easily. It was perfect for us. We stayed there for like 5 days. As far as the services are considered, we used the hotel services like bathrooms, corridors, etc. I would recommend that if anyone is traveling without family then this is the best option, cheap and comfortable. Food is accessible everywhere easily. And the rent for these camps is somewhere around Rs. 500 - 1000.

Food is easily accessible as they also have a restaurant just opposite the hotel. The camps are just at the beginning of Naran. The management let us use the hotel's facilities. No security issues for luggage.

Pine Park: Hell in Hills

Hello dear fellows,

I am a very frequent traveler, and other than short trips to mangla, jehlum, pindi my luck takes me to Abbotabad after every 2 or 3 months.
The first time we went to Naran it was year 87 an I was 9 years old, since that time we have visited so many places so many times.

I reached Abbotabad on 13 august,my wife n 2 kids were already in abbotabad at her parent's house.we left for shogran on 17 aug,we had planned the trip on such dates to avoid extra crowd.the road from abbotabad to balakot is good beyond that the read is under construction,it is recommended that you get your last fill of CNG from mansehra which will be sufficient to bring you back to mansehra from shogran, and yes don't forget the petrol..the journey took around three hours to the base of shogran as the road is under construction and at places you have to follow a long cue of slow moving trucks @ 05 km / hr,once you reach the 8 km road off main naran road that takes you to shogran. it is better converting your car to petrol from cng and if u r driving something diesel then..go ahead dude the road is for you..the road is very narrow , steep with very sharp turns. you have to drive in first gear.

We reached our destination Pine Park and decided to take a walk followed by lunch and then check in..we walked a little in their beautifully maintained lawns and during that met their manager ijaz for the rooms, although he insisted that it will take few minutes we told him that we will deal with all the procedures and payment issues for checking in, after having lunch, and I am glad very very glad for taking the decision entered their big dining hall and settled down.we kept on waiting no one came to attend us..there was a guy sitting behind the counter desk, I went to him and asked that why no one attended us, instead of saying anything he handed over the menu card to me, I didn't want to spoil the mood so I took the card to our table , right after 2 minute the same guy appeared for taking the order. we asked him that we will call once we decide.we decided what to eat in next 5 or 7 minutes and called the guy he ignored and kept on roaming here and there.I said a little loudly that why are you not taking order and he said "I am busy" and then said "I came to take the order and you said you are deciding now you have decided but I am busy so keep on waiting and that he is not going to serve us" I stood up and walked to him and asked his name which was Hashir.I asked my family to wait there and went to the reception where two managers were sitting one of them ijaz opened the register as he thought that I am there for checking in. I described the whole situation to him and he asked me to sit down and called the culprit, and during the explanation call the culprit angrily took the names of 3 other employees who have been more rude with the customers as he has been with me and asked that if he has been called for the explanation, the other 3 should be called aswell..from there I realised that these guys are "serial misconducters" the manager very embarrased tried to stop me but I told him to ?!@K off, spat on his carpet wished him another earth quake just in their hotel's area, and left.
So my dear fellow travellers if you are only fond of beautiful rooms of concrete and stones with pathetic hospitality, hopeless management and ill mannared staff then pine park is the best place to stay.
From there we moved to another hotel named pine view, the rooms are good and spacious but the view is not as good as pine park but the thing THAT MATTERS is great I mean, hospitality, respect, food and steady service. Other than Desi we tried Chinese which was surprisingly good, obviously not as good as lahore but it was delicious.
I am writing this from my cell phone.as soon as I reach lahore I will upload the pics aswell.
I hope that this will help you in deciding where to stay in shogran.well if you are a gang and not traveling with the family then you can even stay at pine park because you will be able to loosen up your arms and hands for few mighty blows to teach manners and train those hopeless people running that heavenly resort. One more thing I would like to tell you that there is a big parking in front of pine park,as I was leaving from pine" hell" park, a man came and asked for Rs 50 as parking fees as they have the contract,I asked him to show any supporting document or permit from district government and he showed me a day book with records of payments received from tourists. I clarified again what I want to see and he started saying "well sir, fifty rupee is peanuts and its not a big amount if you don't want to pay you can happily leave its not issue ...etc etc..I told him that if he has any supporting document I am willing to pay even 500 but they should not make fool of tourist and ovecharge them with such things and in front of that guy I paid the man who washed my car and gave him 50 rupees extra other than the agreed washing charges.

The outstanding feature is that i will prefer sleeping in the car but will never stay at Pine Park

Royal Hotel, Naran

Royal Hotel was a nice and very well maintained hotel with standards. Families prefer to stay here as room rates are reasonable. Rooms are too good as satellite television, phone, double beds, wall to wall carpet, sofas, dressing table and even two types of wash rooms are provided with every room. You can also sit and watch televison in their lobby while enjoying a cup of coffee. Or you can enjoy delicious food at their restaurant which is open every day till 10 p.m.

Hotel has its own huge parking place where you can easily park your car. But one this I would lilke to mention is that its not so easy to get a room in this hotel. Because of its good standard all of rooms are mostly booked. So better make reservation in advance. Per night room rates ( fixed rates) when i visited Naran were Rs. 2000 ( US$ 35).

Erum Hotel, Naran

Erum Hotel is one of the most well known hotel of the area with nice and comfortable rooms and good service. When i visited Naran, their per night rates were between Rs. 1200- 1500 ( US$ 20-25 appox) for different types of rooms.

Their resturant serves Bar-b-que items, Pakistani, Chinese and Continental dishes. Their breakfast items are very good. This hotel offers nice views of mountains as well as main bazar. Good food, impressive service and nice rooms is what Erum Hotel offers you in Naran.

Green Land Motel Shogran

Its kind of hard to get cheap and clean accomodation in Shogran. Pine Park Shogran is pretty expensive. Rest of hotels offer mostly very dirty rooms at very high prices. While just roaming around, i came across this motel which was recently opened at that time. Its located in peaceful area after crossing Shogran bazar.

One can enjoy beautiful views of Sri Paya and Makra peaks while sitting in lush green lawn of the motel. Rooms were well maintained and clean. At that time room without TV was costing Rs. 1200 ( US $ 20) and with TV it was Rs 2000 ( US $33). But bargain was possible.

Green Land Motel looked a real good addition in Shogran. Its a simple motel with around 8-10 nice and maintained rooms. All rooms carpeted, with telephone, television, table lamps, double beds, chairs and well maintained bath rooms.

There is a small nice lawn in front of hotel with car parking. For food, you can tell your choice to management in advance and they would get it ready for you from their little mud-built hut which is basically their kitchen.

Green Land motel is on that side of Shogran where most of low fare and poor standard hotels are located. You have to cross them all and finally you would be at other corner of mountain with view side. It is the place where Green Land motel is located. Siri and Payee peaks would be in front of you and on your right are various other mountains and humps. This way , Green Land is the last hotel on Shogran mountains.

VIP Cottage (Pine Park Shogran)

VIP Cottages are luxury accomdation by Pine Park for the elites visiting Shogran. Per night VIP cottage costs 15, 000 ($ 258.6 appox).

This cottage is built just opposite to 'Magri Block". It has its own private lush green lawn and chairs. There is extensive wooden work done inside this cottage. All the necessary facilities have also been provided. But it's not the case that only VIPs can stay here. If you have enough money then you can also stay here :-)
