Camp John Hay's The Igorot Lodge (AIM): A little bit like home...

If you're on a budget, but you still want to stay at the Camp John Hay grounds, this is a good place to stay. Not cheap, but VERY affordable.

It is a good place for conferences, meetings, family reunions, and the like.

It is near free standing places like Cantinetta (Illy), The House of Waffles, and Starbucks Coffee.

I like the feel of the place, especially in the morning where I could freely walk around the place, not being scared of anything. To me, that's a plus factor. The feeling of security.

Chalet Hotel Baguio

A nice new hotel. The room is beautiful. The lobby restaurant serves delicious food. The staff are very accommodating. They serve free breakfast. Its accessible. And the best part is it has free wi fi!!

Unique Quality: the lobby restaurant, Dulcinea serves good churros con chocolate!

Baguio Vacation Homes: Good accomodations at a fair price

The Baguio Vacation Homes is a townhouse styled accomodations near Naguilian Road. This place was quite difficult to find given that road signs were quite small and the lack of lighting along the road made it difficult to find. Once you get there you are greeted by a guard outpost who will keep unwanted people out. Each phase of the place is divided into four units. Two at the top of a steep staircase and the other halfway up. Each unit has a bathroom/s, dining area, living room and balcony. It also has a kitchen which has a stove, refrigirator, and airpot where you can prepare meals. The rooms which are designed to house a few people are a bit cramped given the recommended number of occupants and does not have much furniture. The staff were very friendly and were happy to help out as requested.

Unique Quality: Nice and quiet given the location especially during the evenings.

AJ's Pension House: Very Basic but Clean

Pros:
- located along a quiet street but still within walking distance from Session Road. (10-15 minutes by foot; cab would cost about 1 USD)
- it has hot/cold bath, cable TV
- some rooms have a common lounge/kitchen/dining area and veranda (this is a good spot for smokers)
- affordable: P1700 (around 40 USD) for a family room big enough for 5 pax.
- after an early check-out, they are willing to keep your luggage for you while you explore the city (without additional costs)
- the bedrooms, bathrooms and common rooms are all clean.

Cons:
- the rooms and the establishment itself are presentable but generic (not much character)
- some of the staff are sometimes unfriendly (one sounded irritated after accompanying my friend in checking the available room which was on the third floor)
- for those who are not fond of stairs, the guesthouse doesn't have an elevator (it's a 3-storey building)

Riverview and Palmgrove

Exactly. There's a jeepney going there, from the market walk your way up till you reach Asin's Jeepney Station. It's easy. Just ask.

The jeepneys don't exactly drop off these resorts, but it wouldn't hurt to take a few walks i believe. It's an exercise.

Take note that rides are not that available as you think especially if it's past 4. So always ask.

Ina Mansion

First time I stayed at Ina was about 8 years ago. I enjoyed how the place looked because it was cozy and I was really able to relax during my stay then. Every 2 years or so, I go back to Baguio and I always prefer to stay at Ina Mansion.

From the outside, the building looks plain, but units at each floor are designed differently. The room we usually get has its bedroom on the lower floor, so its cozy and you don't get bothered by the sunlight :)

Unique Quality: Good:

Quiet area
Right next to Burnham Park
Walking distance to Cafe by the Ruins
Near Legarda place
Walking distance to Session Road

Needs Improvement :)

Before, since the place was being rented as furnished, all the cooking paraphernalia and utensils are there inside the unit itself. Then they changed the policy of leaving a deposit to use them. Now, they have a minimum charge for the utensils and the rent of the cooking pans. Personally, I would prefer just the deposit....hoe they review this.

Carpet in the room where we stay needs a bit of cleaning.

Ina Mansion: Burnham's condotel

When we came to Baguio, we only rely on our chances to get a nice and tolerable transient. We ended up in a not so nice place. In courtesy to the owner (since it was pre-arranged by a friend of mine), we stayed there only for a night and jogged to burnham area the next morning hoping to find another place. We asked one inn and they offered 1,200 pesos for the place but we didn't like it so we jogged a little more and found ina mansion. Their rate was 1,250 for a 2 person condo like unit. I immediately fell in love with the place that we decided to rent it for our whole stay in baguio.

Unique Quality: 24-7 hot water (a must in baguio), own toilet and bathroom, kitchen (you can cook there if you want) fridge, sala with cabled TV, bed (good for 2 person) and cabinets

The worst place we've stayed at: Atenara House- A Nightmare!!!!!

Have you ever been fooled into staying at lodging inn or hotel because of a nice-looking website or worse, a bogus review planted by the owner themselves? Well, I have!

Atenara House main draw is its enviable location near Baguio’s tourist spots. This is where it begins. And this is where it ends.
We had a hard time finding the place as it doesn’t have a signage. Finally, we found it, but we were skeptic to enter as it was not the place I have in my mind as pictured in their website. The house was built in 1958 and which I think was never renovated ever since. As you enter the house you'll be welcomed by the smell of antiques, just like the smell of an abandoned ancestral house. I vomited for real because of this distinctive odorous air in this place. The place was dusty and rundown. I don't mind the idea of an old house type, but this one is worst! The room was so dimly-lit, The bed were made of plywood, the linens and bed sheets looked like it was not changed.No fridge, just an old TV. I didn’t allow my helper to hang the clothes in the cabinet because it smelled moth balls. The place was dusty and rundown that I have to wipe the dresser and TV with tissue. And oh, their towels.you’ll think twice if you’re going to use them or not, they are like rags

After an hour of checkng in the hotel, we were feeling uneasy about the cleanliness of d place and true enough, when I lookd under the bed, it lookd like the room had nt been cleaned for months. I even saw a cockroach. D toilet failed 2 flush and it reeked of urine evidence of d place's utmost filthiness.

We immediately checked out of this place the next morning and when I looked for the landlord to complain about the place, the people there claimed he wasn't around!

SHAME ON THESE PEOPLE WHO CONTINUES TO FOOL PEOPLE BY THEIR WEBSITES AS IF IT IS HABITABLE FOR PEOPLE. THE GUTS TO CHARGE p 6,200/NIGHT FOR THE TWO ADJACENT ROOMS. The nice and new Burnham Suites rate just charge us p5000/ for the 2 rooms. SURELY IT IS THE WORST PLACE WE’VE STAYED AT.

Afineplace.com unit A: The best alternative to a hotel

The unit A of Afineplace.com is big yet cozy. The furnitures match and are just the right size for the place. The colors are of browns and creams that are perfect for baguio's ambiance. This place is perfect for those people who would like peace and quiet during a vacation without being too far from the civilized world. However, you'd need a car to go to and fro as it is located inside a subdivision which is about 500m walk uphill to the main road. The master's bedroom is about 35 sqm big with a large size mirror, some cabinets and its own toilet and shower.

Unique Quality: It has a small fireplace and firewood is not a problem since the caretaker takes care of it for a fee. it has a loft with several cushions for a large family. Has its own parking space inside the property. Barbecue equipment is available upon request. cooking facilities are available for guests who would rather cook their own food. Who could resist that with Baguio's fresh vegetables?

Ina Mansion: Ina's Monster Mansion

Condominium units are rented out to tourists. It has the usual amenities e.g. double bed, sofa, tv, refrigerator, water heater, even a gas stove! But with every good find, there is a catch. It is spooky. There are no curtains nor any other decoration to liven up the dreary room, there is no remote control, fresh towels and linen cost P50/item/day (you don't even get fresh sheets when you check in), toiletries are available at the convenience store downstairs, the water heater gives out sparks when you turn it on so you risk your life everytime you contemplate on taking a bath. As if we weren't harassed enough just trying to find a comfortable place to stay, the locals have to bleed us dry with their money grubbing. Getting a refund is like asking a politician to have a lie detector test. And, contrary to popular belief, not all of the Philippines' local inhabitants are hospitable. Baguio locals will help hapless tourists with directions to inns or hotels under the guise of having nothing else to do but beware: they come with a price even if you haven't contracted their services in the first place. Word of advice to fellow travelers: even if the locals just seem to be helpful, do not let them follow you around.
