Hotel Marco: One of Cagayan's better secrets
Stayed there for five days to do training. grounds and landscaping is excellent. Its located in a quiet part of the city near the famous Malasag eco park. I wouldnt call it a really swanky place as the rooms may need slight renovation, but the amenities are a value for money deal!!!
the pools: the semi-olympic pool, the hot pool and lagoon, the cool waterfall pool and jacuzzi. The sports facilities, including indoor tennis and badminton courts, gym and spa. Its got a large rock climbing wall...For a measly 2,000 pesos per night (includes breakfast), you can enjoy all these. I must say the food s great, with fresh ingredients. It also has a unique architecture. from the front lobby to the facade. Its got a great breakfast too, with a nice view of a great morning sun.Its a must try for locals who wish for an affordable pampered stay.

Marco Hotel: Best resort hotel in the city
Being near a reforested area, the hotel concept is more of a mountain resort. They have 2 pools, spa and a sport facility. They have restaurant where breakfast is included. For me it is the best resort type hotel within Cagayan de Oro.
It has a cold and warm pool. They also have a spa and sport facility. Since the hotel is located within a complex, vehicular traffic is few and noise levels are quite low unless there are events within the hotel area.

Pryce Plaza Hotel: still Cagayan de oro's finest hotel
I stayed there in the off season. hotel is quite large and sprawling and makes you feel special.
the only hotel on a hill with a view of the city. Breakfast is great and is done with a view. Ideal for breakfast meetings. near the airport, making it great for business and pleasure. Great large pool that makes you relax.

Grand City Hotel
The only thing working for Grand City hotel is its central location. Right beside the location where the weekend night market happens, it is where the action is, if you're into "ukay ukay" and fake DVD's.
Unfortunately it is an old hotel with old furniture and old sheets. There's cable TV but the remote doesn't work. And no place to charge your cell phone or laptop, unless you unplug the TV. I have literally seen baby cockroaches on the bathroom sink. There is hot water and the pressure is quite good.
To be fair it looks like they are refurbishing the hotel as I saw (and smelled) paint work all over the place. Unlimited breakfast buffet at P 130 per person is great. Just make sure the uneaten corned beef displayed yesterday is not there the following day. Eggs are freshly cooked for you. Fresh fruits too.

Sunshine Christian Guest House: Sunshiny Stay
The staff is friendly. Their facilities and rooms are clean and well-maintained. The flush in the CR works.
We took the dormitory type accommodation (PHP 200 per head/night) and we were so satisfied with our room. One bed per person... The guest house also provided towels and bath soaps for each of us... and one pillow and blanket for us.

Discovery Hotel: The WORST hotel in the WORLD!!!
This was the single, most disgusting hotel I have ever been in. I stayed for 1 night only due to the lateness of hour and my being dead on my feet. When I woke in the morning I found myself in a "flea bag" hotel, which included the fleas (and other vermin). The room was in poor shape and I made the mistake of lifting the bed sheet and seeing the mattress. I won't go into detail, but when I made it out of there to a better hotel I had to take 2 showers to feel clean again.
I did not take any photos - you should thank me.
So, what have we learned? The Discovery Hotel - DON'T GO!
1150 php per night, no breakfast included.
View of the alley way/urinal behind my room was very unique.

Pearlmont Inn: A Well-Interiored Hotel
We stayed in Pearlmont Inn for one night and we must say that we're very satisfied with the services and facilities of this hotel. Per night would cost P1,150. The amenities include an airconditioned room, a Cable TV, Hot/Cold Shower, Telephone (no phone charges within city)
Fax Service, Safety Deposit Box, Laundry Service, WIFI Service (prepaid cards) and breakfast for two persons. The hotel is also accessible as its near Limketkai Center and Divisoria.
What we like most about this hotel is the interior design of its lobby from the 2nd floor. It is deceptively small but when you try to walk around the area, especially on the upper floors, Pearlmont is actually big enough! We took a lot of photos on the second floor where their grand ballroom is located. Joal and I enjoyed the paintings as well as some pop arts and smithing made of spoons and forks! The window glasses along the hallway looked very old and unique.

Located within Xavier Estates of Cagayan de Oro, it is actually quite far from the city, but only a few minutes away from SM CDO and the Airport. However, if peace and quiet if what you are looking for, this is the perfect place to stay.
Free use of the swimming pool, which is actually the pool of the Xavier Estates club house.

Park View Hotel: For Budget Travel
The facade is not really enticing to a person who got used to comfortable accommodations. But for a budget traveler like me, Park View is a good choice. If you are in a group of 5 or 8, the superior room is best. It can accommodate 8 persons, costing you 860/room/day (with aircon and cable TV).

Pryce Plaza Hotel: Jewel of Cagayan De Oro
Pryce Plaza Hotel is the Most Luxurious Hotel in Cagayan De Oro City, it is situated in top a hill called Carmen Hill and it overlooks the Macajalar Bay, the main bay of the City, offering spectacular views (hey I'm biased ok since i've stayed here!). Hotel room rates start at 3,500 pesos for a single room then 5,000 pesos for a double room. The airport is just 10 minutes away and an SM Mall is just a 5 minute drive (or a jeepney ride ) from here!
Pruce Plaza Hotel has 81 rooms which are spacious and allow you to relax with its elegant decor and furnishings. Each are equipped with refrigerator and mini-bar, bathroom telephone, NDD/IDD, cable and what i like here is the humongous Grand Mindanao Ballroom which can allow a capacity of 400 to 1,500 people inside!

Kingston Lodge - Apartelles and En-Suite Rooms: Cagayan de Oro's Jewel
This is my first hotel review. I actually didn’t want to write this one either, because it’s about a very special place, respectively hotel. I hesitate(d) because I am afraid that it will be overbooked, soon.
Kingston Lodge has fair-prized daily rates and competitive long-term offers.
What I like – and was astonished, too, when the first taxi brought us here on the first night: There is a bumpy natural street going off the high-way, for a bit more than hundred meters. One thinks: “Gosh, where do I end up, here?” – Then, after entering the gate, you immediately realize that you’ve arrived in a well hidden jewel of a place, which will prove itself to be really quite and relaxing.
All the rooms are very clean and nice. We chose to stay at an apartelle. Ours was real bright, spacey and in nice pastel colors. There are two which are less bright (because of a building behind them) for people who prefer that. – It is tastefully and practically furnished, with style.
We heard some people complain behind the hand because of this and that. In my opinion two things: One can always find something to complain. Then, what I’ve realized is that many of the complaining people are not those who live in – let’s say – luxury at home. Most of them who do either do not complain or go directly to a five or above star hotel where there is a world-wide set – sometimes boring – standard. I have stayed at many hotels which can be categorized no star up to many five star. – The issues, I heard people complaining at or on the Kingston Lodge are absolutely minor, in my opinion, things that can be handled simply with common sense. For example “kitchenette”, minor issues: Question to you: Would you change the stove – after a (or each) guest who is not educated to take care of other people’s goods and cooked with burning in stains to the stove. I guess not… Therefore, for me, us, absolutely no problem to look over little things like that. And, to repeat: It’s the people who don’t care, not the owner of the place. For example, at weekends, it could happen that people came using the pools without proper swim wear and showering, leaving dirty water behind that had to be cleaned with a lot of effort and cost.
No, let’s really face what a good and special place the Kingston Lodge in Cagayan de Oro is (and “No! I am absolutely not related to anybody there nor paid etc. ;-).”):
The staff is helpful and friendly, with a smile in their face, in general and also the ladies at the front desk. The owners are down to earth people who must have learned a lot about customer service some when in their lives. Furthermore, they are very knowledgeable about the area and always ready to give you any hint you can use.
They provide for a safe feeling all around the premises, with always friendly security guards on duty, too. If there was a problem, the maintenance was immediately there and took care of it instantly. At the beginning of our stay here, a new water pump system was put into place which made the hot and cold shower even more enjoyable than before. (Compared to many other hotels, the showers were perfectly working before as well, even if the water pressure was going up and down.)
I’ve never ever experienced such a good room staff as here at Kingston Lodge. I know, it sounds repeating, but true is true and fact is fact: They were friendly and courteous, did services I encountered the first time in all my traveling, such as even cleaning my cup while doing the daily room maintenance.
The food served at the restaurant has competitive prices and is among the best I’ve had in the Philippines. The pizzas are for sure number one, made in typical and genuine Italian style, juicy and with a great flavor. You can select between a variety of international and/or Filipino foods.
One of the “strange” side of myself – where I would have liked something different – is that I definitely would prefer an internet connection by cable instead of radiating WiFi. But, as said, that’s something I am picky, partly because of my profession. – However: The connection was good and always there when there was no brown-out or repair done. – When I came first, I was surprised not to find the German TV channel “Deutsche Welle TV” which would provide me with news about central Europe. But, in the information age, no problem: The computer connects me directly to the Swiss TV .
The hotel is located about six kilometers or about four miles away from the city center. But you are there quickly, either by one of the well-priced taxis or a Jeepney (can take longer).
I personally highly recommend the Kingston Lodge as the hotel of choice for your stay in Cagayan de Oro (even if you have business to in the city. The rewarding peace after being back at Kingston Lodge will really reward you greatly.)
In my opinion: Not only a best kept secret in Mindanao but also an example of great. well managed and friendly staffed hotel in the Philippines in general.
P.S. My wife and I stayed here for three months. I was complaining before getting here because I knew ahead that there’s no ocean and view to the sea but after arriving here, I did not miss it and felt happy all over, as my wife, too, and our children enjoyed the pools at the weekend and were treated very kindly.
P.P.S. Should Kingston Lodge be overrun in the future, I hope that I, respectively, we will still get a room ;-).
- excellent staff from owners to gardener help
- great rates
- great rooms
- quite place
- two pools
- excellent restaurant with half international, half filipino food (rare to find in the RP!)
- safe place
- highly recommendable

New Dawn Pensionne: Nice place
I stayed here for nearly a week in May '10. The staff was courteous, the room was clean, and it's located near the city center. The TV was just an old box model, though, and they didn't have a restaurant, but I didn't have time to watch TV anyway and there was a diner (I believe the name was TapsiTime) right outside, so these were just minor snags and not dealbreakers. The price wasn't too high either. All in all, it was a very comfortable stay, and unless they've drastically changed in the past year, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place.
