Minimalist design, efficient Astoria Hotel

I like the dining area of this hotel as the waiters were very attentive to our needs, specially when we often had about 10-20 of our friends eating there with us (We have a looooot of friends in Philippines).

The dark mahogany wood design of the rooms is very simple and we got a comfortable 2 bedroom suite which had a small kitchen and living sofa space. The hotel is a little difficult to find and so it is wise to have a map beforehand for the taxi driver. But it was easy to reserve the room and have all my needs attended to, even while I was still in the USA (you can communicate with them by phone to give your preferences...).

There is a gym area and a nice pool also. The only thing is that this hotel is not annexed or near a major shopping complex, and so at night you only have the small store (seven-11?) to walk to. But the area is relatively safe (business district in Ortigas) and there is the security guard always at the front door.

More about Astoria Plaza

transport from sg megamall to astoria plaza suites

by musaphir

it is only a short distance from the sg megamall to astoria plaza suites. the shortest time we took was about six minutes by car.

the only problem is that there is generally a long taxi queue at the taxi stands near the mall.if one is prepared to wait the fare, depending on traffic conditions, is anything from forty to sixty pesos.

there are some touts offereing "service". what they mean is point to point transfer and immediately, allowing you to beat the taxi queue.

there charges can vary from one hudred to two hundred pesos.

thought i ought to share with members who might wish to use the transportation service in future.

Three Things You will Regret Missing in Ortigas

by IamCCunnings

Ortigas Center is known to be the second-most important commercial and business district after Makati. Ortigas Center has numerous high-rise corporate edifices, residential condominiums, and commercial establishments. This 2007, there are three highlights awaiting its visitors: a unique Filipino- themed shopping center, an exciting event for the arts, and the continued popularity of an Ortigas hotel that has proven itself a truly relaxing place to stay.

Flanking Ortigas Center are the streets of EDSA to its west, Ortigas Avenue to its north, Meralco Avenue to its east and Shaw Boulevard to the south. Tiendesitas, a novelty shopping village. For serious Filipiniana collectors on the look-out for that special find, Tiendesitas, a sprawling Pasig City shopping center just a few minutes away from Ortigas Center, is the place to visit. This 30,000-square meter area shopping complex in Pasig City is home to 450 shops selling specialty products from all over the country, from home-made suman (rice cakes) to vintage Filipino comics. The shops at this shopping mall in Pasig City are grouped, according to their wares, into shopping pavilions called villages,' with each village boasting of charming Maranaw-inspired architecture. Tiendesitas is located on Ortigas Avenue corner E. Rodriguez Avenue, Pasig City.

Arts and Music Festival at SM Megatrade. Running from August 23-26 at the Megatrade 3 Hall, SM Megamall shopping center in Ortigas Center, Third Backdoor Ventures’ Arts and Music Festival and Trade Fair is a unique venue for celebrating arts and music, as well as the lifestyle or subculture that inspires the artists from all walks of life to cultivate further their respective crafts. This annual event in Ortigas fuses the expansive world of arts and music with the world of commerce and business in a one-stop-shop trade exposition for buyers and sellers. The entrance fee to the Third Backdoor Ventures’ Arts and Music Festival and Trade Fair is Php100.

Astoria Plaza, a truly popular Ortigas Hotel. The Astoria Plaza is a 35-storey luxury Ortigas hotel that pampers its local and foreign guests alike with Zen-inspired surroundings, giving its Guests a tranquil respite from the hustle and bustle of Ortigas Center. The one- and two-bedroom suites at the Astoria Plaza Hotel in Ortigas Center are tastefully decorated with contemporary furnishings. To ensure total guest comfort and satisfaction, each suite of this Ortigas hotel comes with a spacious living room, dining area and kitchen. Astoria Plaza is located at 15 J. Escriva Drive, Ortigas Business District, Pasig City.

It is within walking distance if you don't have heavy luggage. Should be 5-10 minutes by cab

If you are referring to SM Megamall, the distance is not that far. They do have a free shuttle to and from Megamall and Robinsons Galleria. Just stay along the lighted and busy main streets if you decide to walk. I would not recommend you to take the back street route for your safety. I have stayed at Astoria in 2007 & 2008 and will again stay there this coming Monday for a few weeks. With respect to cleanliness and hospitality, I would rate them even higher than HI at Ortigas and Edsa. The location is about 3 blocks from the Shaw Blvd. Station of the MRT, while public transport meanwhile are aplenty a block from Astoria. Just ensure when taking a taxi, ask the driver to use the meter. If he refuses, flag another cab.
