Manila Accommodation

by sarahbaker76

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone could let me know where the best place to stay is for a couple of days in manila.

We'll be there for 2-3 nights at the beginning and perhaps the end of our trip as well.

Ideally, we'd like to stay at a similar place to Khao San Road in Bangkok, so we can meet other travellers and get to know where the best places are to head off to next.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

Sarah

I'm not familiar with Khao San Road in Bangkok, but if you're looking for a place frequented by travellers, it could be the Malate area in Manila. There are several 3-5 star hotels; a stone's throw from the famous Manila Bay/Baywalk Area (where there are roadside eateries starting at dusk) and Remedios Circle (known for its nightlife-dining, drinking, live band).

Hotel choices include: (5-star) The Pan Pacific Manila and Manila Diamond Hotel; (2-3 star) Palm Plaza, Las Palmas, Executive Plaza, Boulevard Mansion, Mabini Mansion, Pearl Garden, Corporate Inn, La Corona.

For business travellers, the Makati area is popular. It is the financial, business and commercial center, and hence more upscale.

I recently stayed at the Las Palmas as mentioned above, it was 2000 pesos a night for a large and clean room. I didn't see many other western travellers there, but there are quite a few around the area. I don't believe there is somewhere like Khao San, not that I've seen anyway, but around the corner from Mabini is Adriatico and on there is a place called Adriatico Inn or Lodge or something similar and that looks quite back-packy. Enjoy the Philippines! Jem

If you are looking for the most affordable, head for The Malate Pensionne. You will be very satiafied with its location.

It's on Adriatico Street (if you don't know Adriatico, it's part of the tourist belt, three streets east of Manila Bay)

Look at their WEB site :

Cheapest is 200P a night. This is less than US$4 a night. I have walked in front of that place hundreds of times and it is very safe. You even have a Starbucks attached to the property. You're smack in the middle of dozens of eateries and bars.

Enjoy,
