Best hotel chain in Manila

When it comes to hotels, the Shangrila brand is always associated with impeccable service, high standards and a memorable stay. Which is why when a conference came up and it came with the option to sleep here overnight, I grabbed at the chance even though I lived just 15 mins. away! I have previously stayed at the Shang in Makati and Mactan and they were just as fabulous as this one.

Definitely recommendable whether for business or leisure travelers.

Unique Quality: A fragrant scent is noticeable the minute you enter the lobby. The pool looks inviting though I did not swim as the water was too cold that morning.

And the food, OMG....they were to die for! The buffet breakfast at the ground floor HEAT restaurant serves a dizzying array of cuisine: Western, Asian, Filipino that will make you want to eat and taste every dish available.

The hotel is located between 2 big malls, both less than 5 mins. walk away. One mall has an MRT station where you could ride towards Quezon City (north) or Pasay City (south). This is one reason the hotel is a favored venue for local and international conventions.

Excellent Hotel for Access to Camp Aguinaldo

When in Manila, particularly when visiting Camps Aguinaldo and Crame, the Edsa Shangri-La is my favourite hotel. The atmosphere is very warm and the staff extremely helpful.

Luxury in Paradise

First time in Manila, the entire staff was extremely helpful and very accomodating. Heat restaurant offered the best buffet I've ever experinced. The rooms were clean and elegant and the bed was as comfortable as any I have ever slept in (including my own!!!) They were able to recommend many local sites and arranged for tours of the city and Green Hills Market(a must) I would definately recommend this for any traveler to the Philippines.

Unique Quality: The buffet, the buffet, the buffet!!!!!

Live in Luxury

Everything was perfect, to the soft beds and pillows to the amenities available in the rooms. What I loved most was their buffet breakfast-- you'd have your eyes full before you could even grab a bite! haha! I wish they'd clean their windows though. :)

Unique Quality: Great view of the city. They also have a pool, a number of bar and restaurants to choose from and spa services.

Luxury in Ortigas District!

The Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is a World Renowned International hotel chain based in Hong Kong. It is the largest Asian-based deluxe hotel group in the region. The group started in 1971 with its first and flagship hotel in Singapore, and now has 49 deluxe hotels and resorts located in key Asian, Australian and Middle East cities with hotel room inventory of over 23,000. The hotel group also has a sister brand called Traders Hotel, established in 1989 to cater mostly to business travellers. In the philippines it has 3 Shangrila Hotels and 1 traders hotel. I stayed in one of the shangrila hotels called EDSA Shangrila which is located in the Ortigas District of Mandaluyong City near Manila.

The Edsa Shangri-La Hotel, Manila is the only five-star deluxe city-resort convention hotel in Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City. The hotel sits adjacent to two major shopping complexes, and is a short taxi ride from the Makati Central Business District and Manila International Airport. The hotel offers two towers containing 632 incredible guest rooms and suites, each with views of Manila’s city splendor or Edsa Shangri-La's tropical garden. Four international restaurants and an array of private lounges offer guests numerous locales in which to dine and experience the unique Asian culture Edsa Shangri-La offers.

These amenities combine with the recently launched CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La to provide guests with an exceptionally high level of elegance and personal service.

Unique Quality: Shangrila Edsa has one of the best locations for a hotel in Manila and it has spacious and elegant rooms with tasteful decor and a superb bathroom with an extension phone and glass showers. But it gets terribly busy and you don't get your first choice of room type. they provide a great breakfast with a huge choice for the buffet and also still have wonderful service. But what i like the best is their HEAT International Buffet Restaurant wherein each region has a cooking/carving station for that particular region of the world and the Italian PAPARAZZI restaurant Pricewise it is about 1500 pesos (33 USD) for the Buffet and about 1800 pesos per person for the ala carte meals (38 USD).

It's close to a lot of shopping areas, especially with SM MegaMall and Shangrila Plaza, Podium, Edsa Central, all within walking distance and also an MRT station nearby. A tip - there is a wonderful Greek restaurant in Shangrila Plaza and a superb Hawaiian restaurant called HULA HULA Please, do go and try it out.

The Shang

A good place to stay in the Ortigas area. Nearby different malls - the Shangri-la mall right across it, a few meters is SM Megamall, the Podium and St. Francis Square flea market.

prom

The rooms are quite big, but it's kinda like average. The beds are really comfortable. It's like most typical hotel rooms.

Their Isla Ballroom is like placed in a basement or something. It's quite big, but it could bee divided into 3 ballrooms. Plus there are also other small ballrooms that could cater to small get togethers.

Unique Quality: Their lobby is really great. Actually, come to think of it, it's HUGE.

Shangri-La in Shangri-La

Very comfortable and posh stay. Services are warm and professional. The location is also great with shopping malls littering around the hotel to wear away any free time, and having the MRT station literally just outside the door steps makes exploring Manila so much easier.

Unique Quality: The pool is great - there is a children corner with slides. Guests use the Health club for free - the jacuzzi and bath showers were great, comfortable and welcomed after a day of work.

The hotel also prepares a tray of fruits for its guests and during season, the Carabao mangoes are always appreciated.

Luxury Living EDSA

by pangelipc about Shangrila Edsa

Great close to shopping. Friendly staff, except for snotty check in staff. Large king size bed. The pool was good. Great view of the area. Walking distance to MegaMall and Shangrila Plaza. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. I loved their bread pudding, even came with white sauce, and their noodle station. Pricey but worth it.

Best Place to stay in Manila

by Orange_traveller about Edsa Shangri-la hotel

The best place to stay here in Manila is the Edsa Shangri-la hotel. If you will spend a few days here for shopping, this is the place to stay since it is just 3 minutes walk going to SM Megamall and less than 3 minutes walk going to Edsa Shangri-la mall. If you want bargain shopping, go to Greenhills mall which is just about a 10 minute taxi ride from this hotel. It will cost you about 100 pesos or $2. The buffet in this hotel is great and has a wide range of choices. It is a must that you try the buffet. You will also enjoy the amenities that this hotel offers. They have two swimming pools, a gym and a spa. The staff are very friendly and is very helpful in assisting you with all your travel needs. The room is very comfortable and it is huge with a good scale bathroom. This is a nice hotel for honeymooners and for families as well. If you will be staying in Makati, the business district, there is another Shangri-la hotel in this area which is also nice and much upscale than the one in Edsa. The Makati branch is just walking distance from high end shopping malls like Glorietta.

Excellent woodwork in hotel, good food

by jumpingnorman

This is a convenient location between Quezon City and Makati, and so is perfect for "balikbayans"/Filipino overseas workers who have relatives at both sides of the long Edsa Avenue. But the most enduring thing you will remember with this hotel is the woodwork, specially at the dining area which offers excellent Filipino dishes (including lunch and dinner buffets). The effort in bringing such aesthetic woodwork together is great. We got a unit which had 2 floors, the only problem being that the stairs are somewaht small and too steep inside. Not really good for the disabled. But the hotel has very good security and you can park your car inside the complex. The price is also very reasonable compared to the other high rise luxury hotels. Close to shopping complexes.

Shangri La Edsa or Makati

by Kpkafle

I'm going to Philippines for two weeks to visit my sister. I am going with my 10 year old daughter who will probably enjoy her visit if we are closer to the shopping malls. I know both locations have malls next to them, but is there more things to do in Makati ie restaurants or is the Edsa location just as exciting area. My sister lives near Shang Edsa so logistic wise its probably better to stay at this location. Your advice is appreciated

RE: Shangri La Edsa or Makati

by monina_c

If I were you, I'd opt for Shang Makati. The malls in that area are interconnected by covered walks so its more walker friendly especially since its started to rain lately. The only thing you'll miss if you stay in Shang-Makati is the Tiendesitas in Ortigas but you can always ask your sister to drive you over... ;)

It might be a good idea to ask your sister about this. If I have somebody come over, I would surely ask them to stay at Edsa Shang as I live near it.

Hi there,
There is nothing like just asking your sister´s opinion as each and everyone of us, have our own personal point of view. So, best ask your sister and enjoy your stay in the Philippines.
