Intercontinental Manila in Makati
by BorneoGrrl
After having spent an hour crawling 7 miles from the airport to Makati, I was more than relieved to arrive in this hotel. The room is not as big as I expected, considering this is a 5-star establishment. Nevertheless, it is comfortable and complete with most necessities. You will be happy to know that all their staff speaks perfect english and are friendly & helpful. Ayala Mall is right outside and you can shop to your hearts delight.
Not as expensive as other 5-star hotels and the staff are welcoming
It's conveniently located in around Glorrietta 4 and the MRT is nearby. It's a good choice of the place.
General Hotel Information
• In-room check-in/check-out • Internet access in all guest rooms • Spacious pool area • Rooftop restaurant for elegant dining and ballroom dancing • Fine dining restaurant considered as one of the country's best • Excellent health club with all the latest fitness machines
Got the room on a Priority Club promotion (5000 points for overnight stay). The hotel will automatically upgrade to club room once you have reached Gold status.
1. very near the mall (glorietta) 2. club rooms are very very luxurious. 3. bathroom has a bidet - very rare for hotels in the philippines to have one 4. tea and coffee facilities (although they have local instant coffee which tastes yucky, luckly they have steurts tea too) 5. terry cloth slippers are free - 2 pairs in each room
After double checking with my colleague, I find that we both agree this intercontinental is the worst we ever experienced. As a matter of fact, I think this hotel is an embarrassment for such a prestigious brand name. Location-wise, it's an intercontinental location. But on hardware and services, I can only call it a Holiday Inn. Given various safety and security issues in Metro Manila, I can understand why this hotel chain is very reluctant for further investment. If you are looking for a high-end hotel in Makati city/Manila, you ought to consider other options.
I stayed here twice in 2002 and again in 2005. I've always wanted to stay here because of the reputation it has as being a Manila Institution. In fact, my mom would always tell me that this is the place to grab brunch because of its great food, service and customers.
The first time I stayed here, the service was exceptional. The elevators each had their own person to help you and at every floor there was always a guide/guard/helper. The interior was very reminiscent of the old time Manila Type of flavor. In fact, I loved walking through their hotel hallways because it is paneled with a beautiful wood.
The second time I stayed here, was not as good as the first, but still it will definitely be a hotel that I do not mind staying at again.
I love staying here because its located right next to the Glorietta Shopping Mall and its great restaurants. In fact, in the morning or just before you head back to your room be sure to buy some bread from breadtalk! YUMMY!
Old time manila favor.
Great shopping as soon as you step outside of the hotel.
If you want a place within walking distance of Ayala center and SM Makati and the MRT, nothing can beat this hotel. The rooms are a bit old and in need of renovation but the bellboy assured me that renovations are in order this year. Despite the appearance of being a bit run-down, the rooms are quite comfortable and the bathrooms are clean. The staff are efficient and friendly. I would definitely stay again in this hotel if I'm in Makati.
This hotel is almost an institution in Makati. It is the grand old lady before other bigger and grander hotels sprung up. The club downstairs in the basement , Where Else? has been obscured by hipper clubs but for me, it always brings back fun memories with friends...before techno took over.
very accessible to shopping areas in Makati. great courts for tennis, racquetball, etc.
Intercontinental Manila: Manila's most convenient hotel

The hotel location is so convenient, that you can access to SM Mall, Glorietta and Greenbelt within walking distance. The buffet breakfast served at Jeepney Cafe on the ground floor of the hotel is also a thumb up! Highly recommended.
Access to Ninoy Aquino International Airport is only 30 minutes, that's considered short as Manila's traffic jam is very bad!
