Is it easy to buy a prepaid mobile SIM card?
by coanne
Hi there,
I will be in Manila for a few days and need to get a prepaid mobile SIM card, preferably one from Globe. Would I be able to buy it at the international airport (NAIA, I think?) I will be arriving by PAL....
Is it hard to buy one? Do we need to fill up any form, give our passport photos etc?
Looking forward to advice soon!
Thanks much & cheers :)

not sure if there are kiosks or outlets that sell globe sim cards right at he arrival area of NAIA2. anyway, you can have them in many a store even the lowly sari-sari stores. its very much available at any mall and no need to fill out anything. it sells like chewing gum just about anywhere!

I have bought a SIM card in the special desk in Terminal 3 last year... I believe it is open 24 hours as I was there around 5 am.
I'm not sure if they have desks in other terminals too

It's not open 24 hours as it's been closed a couple of times I've arrived (after midnight).

I have never shown ID in the past.
The only cards I have seen at Centennial 2 are the top up cards if you already have a sim card.
Don't worry, globe outlets are all over the place. You will have your sim in no time after you get to your accommodation.

No need for any documentation. Just pay and get a sim. If you will not find any outlet inside airport, you can easily find one on Ministop and 7/11 ministores all over Manila.

Yes its easy to buy anywhere anytime.,,, i think there is a machine too... But mostly they sell it more expensive than when u buy outside the airport. Somesellit like P200 where outside you can buy it like P50 or something.

Travel Tips for Manila
Hustle & Bustle!
by ms_chick22
There's plenty for a tourist to do, either out and about, or staying at one of the Embassy recommended resorts. For the 10 days I stayed: I relaxed by the pool while the waiter kept my hand filled with Pina Coladas. I went to restaurants, and I danced the night away in clubs. Warning to sensitive people!!! There are many people wandering the streets, and they send their children over to you to beg for money. If you give them any, you will be surrounded my more. The best thing we did was take the kids and buy them some snacks at the McDonalds on the corner. This way, anything they get is for them, and their parents can't take the money. Also many clubs are "girly bars." This means there's a bunch of girls in bikinis on a stage, walking/dancing/swaying, and then when their time is up, they switch out with the next group. These girls then walk around the bar looking to be taken 'home.' Many of them are very nice, and very smart. They're just stuck in a poor culture. The regular clubs are very "dress code," so they weren't fun to go to. The girly bars are right near the large hotels. Each one usually has a separate dance floor, and a DJ that is happy to take requests. The club managers are also very polite, so if you just want to buy yourself drinks and dance all night - it's ok! The city is a Japanese business-man's Hawaii. I danced for a while with a friend, and Japanese men were watching and throwing money at us. We picked it up and gave it to the girls we met and became friends with - after all, it was their place of employment and we would have felt bad taking the money!

patience with the red tape

processing is generally cumbersome and time-consuming so take it in ur stride and plan ahead so ur not in a rush
getting around is not too easy either by just asking around for directions. solution = keep on asking!! and keep your questions simple and thorough. anticipate every possible contingency that could've been avoided by someone telling/answering you what you hadn't specifically asked for
eg. international phone cards are only for certain landline networks and certain countries. make sure you check if your country is included and that the card you will be using is for the landline you will be calling from.
San Agustin Church Facade
by D._Pepper
San Agustin (Saint Augustine) is inside Intramuros, the old Walled City. I can't remember the exact date, but this church was built in the 1600's. Of course, it's been rebuilt a couple of times, but it retains a lot of its history to make a trip to this old church a must for tourists. There is a museum in a separate building to the side of the church.
Loyalty, Utang Na loob! (Debt of gratitude)
by machomikemd
If you want a Filipino friend, it would not be hard for you to gain loyalty, which is another strong trait among us Filipinos. The term "utang na loob" (debt of gratitude) implies a strong sense of gratitude and loyalty to a person who did a good thing for someone, again sometimes being a fault. Filipinos treasure their friendships under any circumstances. The Filipino's trust becomes evident when he shares with you both his joys and sorrows. A Filipino friend is someone you can lean on and will defend you right or wrong!
