Davao Tip

High Mass at the Monastery of the Transfiguration, Malaybalay, Bukidnon. Waking up before the 6 a.m. Mass was truly worth the effort. The Monastery is situated on a hill a few minutes' drive away from the main town, and is a quiet sanctuary where you can reflect and commune with the Lord. It is also home to the Monastery Boy's Choir, considered to be the best children's choir in the Philippines. All its members are sons of poor farmers from Mindanao, but they sing beautiful renditions of the works of Bach, Handel, and Mozart, among others. Just hearing them raise their voices to praise God was such a divine experience!
Golf Davao
by sanggano
Davao City has 2 private 18-hole courses and a public 9-hole course.
Apo Golf Club is a storied course which was developed in 1965. It is located in Bago, approximately 13 kilometers south from the Davao City Hall. At 7,000 yards from the back tees, the course is very challenging - with mature trees lining the rough, and numerous water hazards. Its name comes from the tallest Philippine mountain, which can be viewed in its majesty especially from the 10th fairway.
Palos Verdes Golf is west of the Diversion Road. There are 2 routes to the course, one of which will take you through a banana plantation. A much younger course (less trees), it offers a different golfing experience, but challenging nevertheless due to its undulating fairways, bunker positions. At 7,039 yards (gold), the back tee is for the pros. The blue (6,450) is recommended for intermediate players and white tees for those who just want to enjoy a stress-free round.
The downhill par-4, 14th hole and the par-4, 9th hole require strategy and precision. Don't hook or pull your shot on the par-3, 2nd; there are crocodiles in the ravines to the left!
Lanang Country Club closed down after a portion of the course was purchased by a real estate developer.
The 9-hole Matina Golf is 1 kilometer from SM mall, and is 5 kilometers south of Davao City Hall.
Visit Tudaya Water Falls
by francis0927
You could include this visit with a climb to Mt. Apo - but mind you, this iterinary is for experienced mountaineers only. But still you could do this visit on its own... its really worth it... I swear!!!
Tudaya falls must be the highest falls in the Philippines. I'm quite puzzled why this isn't as famous as it should be.. though glad so that it will continue to exist in its pristine (well almost) condition.
The falls is so big and strong and tall that you could feel droplets of water as far as maybe 50 meters away. You could also traverse the back of the falls and come out on the other side. While you are inside (behind) the falling waters, the wind and water splashing on you is so strong you will find it is a little difficult to breath - dont worry not difficult enough to suffocate you :) Its as if you are in the middle of a storm in a freshwater lake!!!!
The surroundings is also "Jurrasic Park" like. The leaves of plants are huge. You'll feel you were transported to a land before time.
Ah Fat Seafood Restaurant

Typical Chinese restaurant so don't expect a quiet meal. Very reasonable prices and food is tasty! I visit this restaurant every time I go home. Or I always order take-out! Steamed Garlic Prawns/Lobsters, Lohanchay, Hot-Sour Soup
Fast Food
by Iluv2surf2 about Chow King
Don't think I'm crazy for including this, but I really feel it will give a more complete and balanced view of the restaurant situation in Davao. I was extremely impressed with one fast food restaurant that wasn't there (that I know of on our last trip), but has seemed to have experienced an explosion in growth. It's Chow King.
I'd love to own a franchaise of one of these!
The food is GOOD and INEXPENSIVE. There is also an excellent VARIETY of foods to choose from and it actually tastes good!
These restaurants are clean. The noodle soup, fried chicken and lumpia shanghai are my favorites! They even have COLD Diet Coke!
